Chapter 978: Chapter 978: Teasing a starving General
"But can we even trust their words? They serve Prince Sedrick and the old noble families, both of whom are notorious for their duplicitous nature and unknown depths." Baron Glorfile muttered with a frown very much wary of their supposed allies.
"That’s true, unlike you Baron they have little reason to reveal their hidden cards but in this situation they won’t have much choice. We’ll meet them with unyielding force and if they deny their involvement with this group then it changes nothing, either they’re enemies and must therefore be eliminated so as to avoid a future catastrophe or they serve the 2nd Prince thus giving us a deeper glimpse into their hidden forces." In comparison to the Baron, Frost didn’t find the situation all that disastrous as regardless of their affiliation there could only be two outcomes.
After giving his opinion on the matter Frost then turned to General Anya who was standing to his left. "General Anya I’d prefer you to be at the meeting as well, so as to consolidate our position against those serving the 2nd Prince." Compared to the neutral nobles who only had the Baron and a 2nd hidden A-rank adventurer amongst their roster Prince Sedrick had sent four A-ranks, two of his own and two that served the interests of the old noble families who followed him. Frost and the Baron would struggle to intimidate such a line up without the General by their side.
Hearing this Anya immediately frowned, tongue tied as she struggled to give him an answer.
Currently the forces representing Sedrick were still unaware of her presence -or at least she hopes they still were- this was something she wanted to maintain as it was beneficial both to herself and the neutral nobles but at the same time she deeply understood the angle Frost was getting at thus the conundrum.
"You can keep up your disguise; we don’t need General Anya just another A-rank to even the playing field a bit." Frost quickly caught on to the problem.
"Are you sure? Even with a 3rd A-rank, the only known individuals will be yourself and Baron Glorfile, hardly enough to intimidate them." Just because they held the same rank did not mean that they’d respect that individual. They were nobles or agents of high ranking nobles, even Baron Glorfile was barely in their eyes.
"Hmph directly maybe but you’ve forgotten where we are." Frost hmphed in disdain, brushing off such misgivings. Behind him stood a person with S-rank strength, a well-documented fact -at least from the perspective of an outsider.
"Ahhh!" General Anya had completely forgotten about the threatening individual dwelling within Niflheim. Her interactions with Frost had been so jovial and playful that she completely overlooked the threat he posed or at least the threat the power behind him posed.
"I’ll call over Ovaria now." With Frost’s unperturbed attitude, his alluding to a hidden S-rank force and General Anya seemingly on board Baron Glorfile who had been on tenterhooks the past few days, living in dread and even fear of the forces sent by Prince Sedrick straightened his back and donned a confident smile on his lips, a more natural demeanour for him.
He left without hesitation, his gait brimming with joy and expectation.
"He won’t get cocky right?" Asked Frost, his upper lip twitching from seeing an old man with greying hair practically skipping out his office,
"Don’t worry, Baron Glorfile’s as steady as they come. He’s just been under too much pressure recently." Anya shook her head but quickly allayed his fears.
"How’s my current get up by the way?"
Frost turned his head, his gaze wandering up and down Anya’s figure that was heavily obscured by several layers of cloth and then a rough, tanned cloak making distinguishing her identity difficult.
"Personally I think you suit a more revealing style, a figure with that much toning should be shown to the world with pride." Even if she didn’t reveal much skin she could still choose to wear tight fitting garments that emphasised her muscles and shapely figure.
Dong!
"Can you stop being so frivolous? I wasn’t asking about my choice in fashion, and you damn well know it." His comments were met with a swift and merciless bonk on the head from her spear.
"Oww!" Frost rubbed his head, the pain was not small in the least, the top of his skull was throbbing, and his brain had been rattled, she really showed no mercy whenever she drew her spear. "You try to answer honestly, throw in a compliment or two and what do you get, violence, physical violence." He bemoaned through mutterings which seemed to annoy the woman as she raised her spear for another bonking, her brow twitching as she visibly held back her growing desire for said violence.
"Want another beating because I’m more than happy to do it." She may not be able to genuinely attack him, but such playful taps could never be construed as proper violence....right?
Frost shivered, seeing madness in those eyes of hers.
"Haaaaa you should probably ditch the spear then alter your physique to suit your new weapon, also maybe dye your hair and wear a solid mask rather than just cloth." Eventually he gave the proper response Anya was looking for.
Anya glanced at her spear, her partner for who knows how many years. While a spear user especially in the military wasn’t rare it could very well narrow down an already limited pool of possible wielders, Frost’s suggestion had merit.
Altering her physique could be done with a little body control but mainly by adding padding in certain areas.
"You’re good at this." Incognito was never really in her skillset, she was an upfront, on display military woman not a spy.
"I once had to wear a mask for a while and picked up a few tricks along the way." His library of books truly had a plethora of subjects.
"That makes sense, with that appearance it’d be impossible for you to go about unnoticed."
"Hoh is that a compliment."
"Just an accurate observation."
"I’ll take it hehehe." It was rare for Anya to say anything remotely positive about him, so he wasn’t about to let go of such a treasure.
While he chuckled to himself he failed to notice a slight blush flashing across Anya’s cheeks before vanishing in the same second. Even someone with more rugged tastes couldn’t deny Frost’s beauty.
"Were you this annoying and lecherous with the Princess?"
"Who Avira...." Frost tilted his head in thought and scratched his chin. "...Annoying you’d have to ask her but lecherous no, she’s a little too immature for me." Though he had a fondness for her and would admit that she was a beauty in the making the key word however was in the ’making’. She was too young, too underdeveloped and too lacking in that confident and strong mentality that he was drawn to. To him Avira was not all that different from Luna, a girl not a woman.
"Are you serious? There’s no girl as cute and adorable as the 3rd Princess in all of Northrend but to you she’s immature." Anya couldn’t believe it, this man was often lust incarnate, his every word a possible innuendo and his every action possessing a measurable attraction, he couldn’t walk through the city without drawing the gazes of men and women.
"What can I say, she’s not my type." His words were as genuine as could be but to Anya they just didn’t compute, her mind stalling in response.
"...Then if cute, adorable, beautiful and perfect in every way isn’t your type then what is?" Anya eventually asked which was a mistake akin to letting a wolf in the house.
"That’s easy, I like women not girls; strong, confident women with meat on their bones. Thicc or muscular both are good as long as I can feel her when she’s in my arms and resting against my chest. Sexy, flirtatious and if I’m honest a little older, that Anya is the kind of woman I’m attracted to." Frost responded to her question with a provocative smirk, his eyes dancing across her body as though able to see through her many, many layers.
Anya was far more in his strike zone that Avira and he was basically spelling it out for her, warning her to be more on edge around him otherwise she could wind up eaten....of course he’d never actually do that given his current well stocked roster, but it was fun to mess with her.
With lust swarming in his eyes and what qualities he found attractive laid out Anya would have to be a dense fool to not get the hint.
This mid-forties woman suddenly felt a heat growing across her face and neck as she realised she fit pretty much all of those standards. She was strong in character, muscular from being in the military, far more experienced in carnal affairs and relationships than a virgin like Avira and she was certainly older or at least more mature than Frost -elves lifespans tended to be longer than humans.
"....Cheeky bastard you never miss a chance to mess with me do you?" She got played, sucker punched from the left field, visibly embarrassed but not angry nor aggressive like earlier.
"Take it however you wish, I simply answered your question honestly." Frost shrugged his shoulders, denying any machinations but Anya was no fool.
"....You know you really shouldn’t tease you elders little boy, you might just end up cashing in on a deal you can’t possibly afford." Off came the mask, replacing the usual persona of a strict military General with nothing but duty on her mind was that of a hungry, malnourished cougar with a wealth of experience and stories that would have a pup as young as Frost spinning for days on end.
She moved like a shadow, her right hand pushing against his chest, cementing him to the back of his chair as she leaned in and whispered into his ear in a seductive, enchanting voice. "If I made a move on you right now there’d be nothing you could do so learn how to toe the line Frost otherwise the next woman you flirt with might not show as much restrain as myself." She then pried herself off him a second later revealing the extent of her control before vanishing from the room, leaving him in a state of shock.
".....Huh, didn’t think she had that in her." Frost found himself quite aroused by what just happened, more than willing to admit that he enjoyed that sudden and unexpected burst of aggression from her but at the same time he also learned his lesson.
"Toe the line." He repeated her warning, reflecting back on his playfulness towards her that had gone a little too far. Perhaps as Anya had eloquently put it he might end up regretting such antics and fall victim to an assault and he’d have no one to blame but himself.
His mind conjuring up the image of a certain other General he came across back in Icethorne. She radiated danger, but Anya simply concealed hers....a worthy lesson.
"We’ll talk about what just happened later Frost." Just as he was about to prepare himself for his meeting with the leaders of Sedrick’s forces Frost heard a chilling voice within his head.
