Chapter 279: Chapter 209: Ding Yang: I Believe in Lin Qi

Lin Qi looked a little helpless.

"Director Ding, Headquarters may be overestimating me. My ability is limited to mechanical engineering. While I can research and build Mecha, Prosthetic Bodies, and some special weapons, things like spacecraft and rockets are far beyond my scope."

Lin Qi wasn’t lying. Spacecraft, rockets, and the like were completely outside the scope of Liu’s Heavy Industries’ operations.

Or rather, this was beyond the research capabilities of a typical large corporation. Generally, only an Intercontinental Giant Corporation would have the financial and technological resources to research such things.

Not every major corporation was completely devoid of research in this area, however. For example, when Lin Qi worked at the Weapon Research Institute, he’d heard that one corporation was researching a space-flight-capable Prosthetic Body—the kind that would let a person walk on the moon just by equipping it.

That was an X-Class design. Lin Qi figured the corporation probably didn’t succeed in the end. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have remained just a major corporation; it would have had the potential to challenge the Intercontinental Giant Corporations.

Ding Yang’s expression immediately fell.

"Is that so... Then all we can do is leave it to fate. I hope Headquarters can find a solution."

Seeing Ding Yang’s expression, Lin Qi felt a headache coming on.

Lin Qi had no idea what the Dragon Country Command Headquarters was planning. Even if he wanted to help, he wouldn’t know where to begin.

Regardless, Lin Qi didn’t want to leave his fate in someone else’s hands.

The whole Blood Moon anomaly was deeply unsettling.

"Director Ding, may I ask why Headquarters needs spacecraft? Do they need to transport something into space?"

"Theoretically speaking, with Headquarters’ capabilities, I believe they should be perfectly able to use spacecraft built before the apocalypse. It doesn’t make sense for them to come to me for help."

This was what puzzled Lin Qi. Theoretically, the Doomsday World’s aerospace technology wasn’t bad before the apocalypse.

As one of the superpowers, the Dragon Country must have had vast reserves of related assets.

Even with the apocalypse now, Lin Qi believed Headquarters still had ways to access its former equipment and facilities.

After all, it had only been about a month since the apocalypse began. The equipment wouldn’t have degraded so easily.

Ding Yang shook his head. "I’m not clear on the specific reasons. I only know that it has to do with delaying the arrival of the Blood Moon anomaly."

"Furthermore, the required parameters for the spacecraft, or rocket, are extremely high. It seems conventional rockets don’t meet the specifications."

"Also, the apocalypse caused all long-range signal communications to fail, making it difficult for conventional rockets to complete their mission. Not to mention, Headquarters no longer has any experienced astronauts to perform manual operations."

Ding Yang relayed the information he’d received from Headquarters to Lin Qi.

After saying this, Ding Yang sighed. "Lin Qi, to be honest, I don’t think Headquarters will manage to delay the Blood Moon anomaly this time. The Mo University Camp had better prepare to face it as soon as possible."

Having said his piece, Ding Yang rose to his feet, looking dejected.

He didn’t even bring up the deal they had previously agreed to discuss.

With the anomaly imminent, self-preservation was already a challenge. Ding Yang no longer expected the Mo University Camp to spare the resources to help the Warriors from Hongshan Camp and Changpu Camp with their Prosthetic Body implantations.

Watching Ding Yang’s retreating back, Lin Qi fell silent for a moment.

Then he spoke up, calling out to him.

"Director Ding, please wait a moment."

Upon hearing this, Ding Yang immediately spun around and returned to stand before Lin Qi.

Lin Qi watched Ding Yang’s swift movements, unsure what to make of them. The whole sequence seemed to be a mix of genuine emotion and a bit of a performance.

It was as if he was certain Lin Qi would call him back.

Feeling a bit resigned, Lin Qi said, "I’ll see what I can figure out today. I’ll make another trip to the Mo University Camp library to look for some reference materials. I’ll give you an answer tomorrow, but please don’t get your hopes up, Director Ding."

’I don’t have the technical knowledge Headquarters needs, but that doesn’t mean the Cyber World doesn’t.’

’For instance, if I could get my hands on that rumored X-Class Prosthetic Body with space-flight capabilities, it might just meet Headquarters’ requirements for a spacecraft.’

Ding Yang quickly replied, "I’ll have to trouble you then, Lin Qi."

After that, Ding Yang bid Lin Qi farewell. He seemed to be in a hurry to return to Hongshan Camp to attend to his administrative duties.

Watching Ding Yang’s distant figure, Lin Qi felt a massive headache coming on.

After a full day of peace yesterday, Lin Qi had thought the Doomsday World was finally starting to stabilize.

He never expected such a huge problem to land on his plate the very next day.

’Liu’s Heavy Industries obviously doesn’t have the necessary technological reserves.’

’To get the right technical data, I only have two options in the Cyber World.’

’One path is through the Highest-Level Mercenary Corps. Guang Ling, Capitalist, or even King Arthur and Master Ma might have the ability to obtain the relevant technical data.’

’The other path is through Lin Xin, but that’s too risky. After all, I wouldn’t have a cover identity, and being targeted by the Eastern Alliance is far more trouble than being targeted by members of the Highest-Level Mercenary Corps.’

’However, while spacecraft are cutting-edge tech in the Cyber World, many models of launch vehicles are practically ancient. I should still have a chance of getting my hands on the blueprints.’

The need for a launch vehicle was a bit out of character for the persona Lin Qi had cultivated within the Highest-Level Mercenary Corps. Fortunately, the corps had recently taken on a mission related to Ninghang Technology.

He could probably spin some connection between the two.
