Chapter 89: Saving the Day at the Final Moment!
Just as Huo Ling’er and Chi Yao were overwhelmed by despair, prepared to close their eyes and face their death, a shimmer of blue light flashed within the underground cavern.
The radiance twisted and converged, gradually outlining a human figure.
First came the limbs, then the torso, and finally the head.
Before long, a man appeared where the light had previously been.
Huo Ling’er and Chi Yao recognized him immediately.
Who else could it be but Chen Xuan?
Yet, facing their Master, neither of them felt relieved.
What Chi Yao understood, Huo Ling’er understood as well.
Though she possessed near-blind faith in her Master, she did not believe he could contend with the spider demon.
"No! Master, run!" the two women’s voices overlapped, as they shouted at the same time.
Their cry jolted Chen Xuan awake.
He forcibly suppressed the uncomfortable sensation caused by the teleportation and swept his gaze across his surroundings.
The first thing he saw was the endless swarm of tiny spiders, followed by the gigantic spider demon whose cultivation had reached the Nascent Soul realm.
He heard its powerful screech and saw it move its gaze toward him, before it struck with its front limbs.
Despite what its massive size would suggest, its speed was terrifying.
One moment, its limbs were planted firmly in the ground, while the next, they were already descending toward Chen Xuan.
The anxiety on Huo Ling’er’s face deepened, while Chi Yao’s expression turned strange, and she looked down at herself.
Faced with the incoming strike, Chen Xuan remained completely calm.
He neither dodged nor defended.
He didn’t even draw the Holy Weapon Common Saber.
Instead, Honglan’s true form, a magnificent golden sword, materialized in his hand.
Then, he casually swung it, slashing forward in a crescent shape.
A brilliant golden light erupted throughout the cave, as though it were the Light of Creation.
It spread in every direction, swallowing the entire cave and blinding both women. They could no longer see what was happening.
Before they could react, a chorus of agonized shrieks rang out, followed by the sound of flesh burning.
The tiny spiders crawling along the walls, floor, and even the ceiling were instantly incinerated, reduced to smoke.
An even more powerful scream soon came.
The Nascent Soul spider demon struggled desperately to resist.
But the next moment, any sound and movement it made ceased.
Silence descended.
When the golden light finally receded, the scene revealed itself before Huo Ling’er and Chi Yao.
There was no longer any spider in the cave, while even the golden sword had vanished.
Only Chen Xuan stood where he had first appeared, as though he had not taken a single step since the fight began.
His clothes were spotless, his expression calm and unhurried, as if slaying the Nascent Soul spider demon had been nothing but a mere trifle for him.
Admiration filled Huo Ling’er’s eyes.
Though she had been unable to witness the attack itself, she knew that her Master must have demonstrated his overwhelming power to deal with the enemies!
His ability to kill a Nascent Soul spider demon in just an instant was enough to reveal everything!
Yet in the next moment, the admiration in her eyes quickly vanished. Grievance replaced it.
Tears welled up in her eyes, and she threw herself at him.
"Master! Master! Your disciple almost died!" she said as she tried to hug him.
Unfortunately, Chen Xuan reacted quickly.
He pressed a hand against her forehead and stopped her in place.
Huo Ling’er flailed her arms around, trying to wrap them around his waist, but she could not get any closer, no matter how much she struggled.
On the other hand, Chi Yao was far more composed.
She walked over steadily and bowed her head, her eyes flashing with feigned admiration and genuine curiosity.
Chen Xuan nodded in acknowledgment.
Feeling Huo Ling’er’s tears smearing across his palm, he frowned in disgust.
He took a step back and withdrew his hand, causing her to nearly stumble to the ground.
Fortunately, she regained her balance on time and cast a look of displeasure at him.
Chen Xuan ignored her.
Under normal circumstances, he would have taught these troublemakers a lesson.
Forget comforting them. He would have bent them over his knee and given them a thorough spanking to let them know pain.
Fortunately for Huo Ling’er and the Demon Empress’s reputation, the situation was not suitable.
He looked around, surveying his surroundings, while secretly communicating with Honglan through his divine sense.
"Do you know where we are?" he asked.
Though he could not see her, Chen Xuan could practically picture Honglan shaking her head.
"No. I’ve never been here before," she said before adding:
"However, I can tell we’re extremely far from the fragments of the Secret Realm. Hundreds, if not thousands, of Domains away."
Saying this, Honglan sighed.
"This Cross-Domain Teleportation Array is far from ordinary. Most such arrays can only transport someone to the neighboring Domains. Crossing a dozen Domains is already considered remarkable, enough for the Formation master to boast."
"But this one..."
She didn’t finish her words, but Chen Xuan understood what she was implying.
Clearly, the attainments of the person who had arranged the formation were extraordinary.
Unfortunately, he had little interest in marveling over it right now.
The System’s Mission was still there, and he had yet to receive the Reward.
Chen Xuan could not tell whether the mission would only conclude after they returned to the Tianxuan Domain, or if there was still danger.
Either way, he had to investigate his surroundings before doing anything.
With a thought, his divine sense spread outward.
The next moment, he raised his fist and punched the ceiling above him.
Boom!
A second punch followed, then another, and another.
Rock and soil exploded apart.
Before long, sunlight descended through the opening.
Chen Xuan gave his disciples no time to react.
With a flutter of his sleeve, he enveloped the women in his power and soared upward through the newly opened passage.
