Chapter 168: Count! God of Death!

From the moment the enemies launched their first wave of attacks to the instant Chen Xuan countered and summoned the Soul Formation zombie to kill his opponent, only a split second had actually passed.

Yet the significance of the Undead King Sect cultivator’s death could not be overstated.

Chen Xuan possessed the Death-Binding Ring and could therefore control the Soul Formation zombie.

Even so, despite being surrounded and under immense pressure, he had not summoned it immediately.

It was not because he was unwilling, but because he was wary.

Wary that the enemy might possess some secret method capable of seizing control of the corpse.

After all, Chen Xuan was unfamiliar with the techniques of corpse-refining cultivators.

If they truly had a way to wrest control of another’s corpse, not only would he lose his greatest trump card, but he might even be forced to fight against it himself.

As such, he had been waiting patiently for the perfect opportunity.

The large chaos brought by the Spirit Weapon self-destructions had been exactly that.

The explosions obscured everyone’s vision and disrupted their divine senses for a brief moment. Amidst that chaos, even experts of the Late Stage Nascent Soul realm found it difficult to monitor the entire battlefield at once.

That single opening was all Chen Xuan needed.

Watching the enemy cultivator’s body collapse, Chen Xuan’s eyes turned cold as he raised the Common Saber and slashed downward.

Immediately, a miserable cry rang out.

The illusory phantom that had just emerged, preparing to flee, was cleaved apart before it could escape.

After letting out one final scream, it shattered into countless fragments and vanished completely.

A rain of blood descended from the sky, as though the heavens themselves mourned the death of a Nascent Soul cultivator.

Only then did the others recover from their shock.

Having just weathered the barrage of self-detonating Spirit Weapons and witnessed one of their companions perish almost instantly, every demonic cultivator’s expression changed dramatically.

For the first time since the battle began, fear surfaced in their eyes.

Daoist Undying was no weaker than any of them.

If Chen Xuan could kill him so quickly, then the same fate could just as easily befall them. The thought sent a chill through everyone’s heart.

However, that fear did not make them retreat.

Instead, it awakened the vicious, bloodthirsty instincts inherent to demonic cultivators.

Looking at Chen Xuan, they no longer held anything back.

One trump card after another was revealed.

Forbidden techniques burned away lifespan. Secret treasures erupted with dazzling brilliance. Puppets, talismans, formations, and strange methods appeared one after another.

Their combined might caused the surrounding space to tremble violently.

All types of unorthodox methods were used.

Chen Xuan immediately noticed that the pressure had increased significantly. Their attacks were far stronger than before.

Clearly, even moments earlier, they had still been reserving a portion of their strength.

’They’re still guarding against one another even at a time like this. Demonic cultivators truly cannot trust each other,’ Chen Xuan mused.

’But it makes sense. These people come from different factions and have merely joined forces to deal with the Tianxuan Domain. Once this matter is settled, their alliance will end. They may very well become enemies the next day.’

’How could they possibly trust each other?’

Only after Chen Xuan had truly frightened them did they abandon those reservations.

Unfortunately for them...

Chen Xuan slowly shook his head.

"It is already too late. Had you fought like this from the very beginning, I might have been forced to be more cautious."

"But now... the outcome has already been decided."

Before the last word had even fallen, Chen Xuan had already disappeared.

His figure blurred as he appeared before the young man in the blood-red robes.

A golden sword materialized in his left hand as the phantom of a cute girl appeared.

Without the slightest hesitation, Chen Xuan slashed with all his strength.

At the same time, the Common Saber in his right hand swept backward, its plain blade severing the incoming attacks and dispersing them before they could reach him.

Chen Xuan did not stop there, however.

Through the Death-Binding Ring, he directed the Soul Formation zombie toward the remaining enemies.

It did not need to kill them. Holding them back was more than enough.

And it succeeded.

Although it was not like the carefully refined puppet of the earlier puppet master and could not cast any spells, the zombie’s physical strength was terrifying, even more so than that of Chen Xuan.

Spell after spell landed upon its body, only to shatter apart without leaving so much as a scratch.

The demonic cultivators were forced to devote nearly all of their attention to evading its massive claws.

Its movements were admittedly somewhat rigid, and the seamless coordination among the enemies prevented it from landing a decisive blow.

Even so, it had already fulfilled its purpose perfectly.

Shriek!

"Agh!"

A tearing sound echoed through the battlefield, followed by a miserable scream.

As everyone’s eyes traced it to its source, they discovered that it belonged to the young man from the Blood Son Sect.

Or rather, to his remnant Nascent Soul.

By the time they noticed it, his physical body had already been split apart, and his tiny Nascent Soul was desperately attempting to flee.

Unfortunately, it did not get far.

The golden sword flashed once more, bringing its desperate cries to an abrupt end.

Another rain of blood fell from the heavens.

Chen Xuan calmly flicked the golden sword, allowing the blood to slide from its edge.

"Second," His indifferent voice echoed across the battlefield.

Before anyone could react, his figure blurred once more.

Soon, another tearing sound came, followed by another scream.

"Third."

Then the count continued.

"Fourth."

"Fifth."

"..."

With each number Chen Xuan uttered, another Late Stage Nascent Soul cultivator fell.

The confidence the demonic experts had displayed moments earlier gradually disappeared.

Little by little, the battlefield quieted.

The noise dissipated, and even the sounds of the battle itself faded away.

Before long, only two people remained alive.
