Chapter 89: Thugs
Time went by quickly and without realizing it, it was already 12:30 pm. At this moment, Ren was talking with Cassandra and Aria in Aria’s office.
They wanted to ask him a few things, so they summoned him.
"So, you hired a lightning mage to help you create your own skills?" Aria was startled, but she didn’t show it on her face.
"Yes." He didn’t tell her who his teacher was.
"Ren, isn’t it too early for you to do that?" From Cassandra’s point of view, it was better for him to learn more about magic or his innate abilities.
"Instructor, creating my own skills has helped me understand my element better, so it’s not something I should be worried about." He needed to read a lot of lightning handbooks to achieve his goal. "And I’m confident that I can defeat someone above my rank if I manage to create them."
Aria raised an eyebrow. "Above your rank?"
"Yes." He began explaining the concept of his techniques.
Aria and Cassandra were startled as they listened to his explanation.
The more they heard, the more amazed they became.
Ren was still young, yet his ideas were wonderful.
It was as if he had already known that he would awaken both paths from the beginning.
"Alright. You can continue, but I hope it won’t slow you down." Aria had high hopes for him as he was not an ordinary awakener.
"Let us know after you succeed," Cassandra added. "I’m really curious whether you can defeat someone above your rank with your skills or not."
"Sure." He agreed right away.
"You can go back now," Aria said.
Ren immediately walked out of her office.
Once he arrived at his private training ground, he heard someone singing.
’She can play the guitar?’
He was startled when he saw Virelia playing the guitar and singing a song.
And what amazed him most was that her voice was so beautiful and melodic. It was as if she were a professional singer.
"So hold me tight before silence falls...
And let our dreams be brighter than the sun..."
Virelia stopped playing the guitar when she noticed him.
"You have a beautiful voice, Zara." Ren praised her as he approached her.
"Of course! This big sister is special after all. I’m amazing at everything I do." She grinned proudly.
He sat in front of her and asked, "Where are the others?"
"They left to buy something." She put the guitar on the stone table.
"Why are you not with them?" he threw another question at her.
"I’m a kind and understanding person. You would be alone if I went with them, so I decided to stay and accompany you." She lied.
Actually, she left his private training ground shortly after Aria summoned him. Lily and the others had already left by the time she returned.
She knew where they were because she sent a message to Lily earlier.
"Really?" he didn’t believe her.
"Of course!" she replied. "Have I ever lied to you before?"
"But my instincts tell me that you are lying right now." He still didn’t buy it.
"It’s just your instincts." She rose to her feet. "Let’s go out and eat something. I’m hungry."
"Sure." He agreed right away, as he was starving as well.
Several minutes later, they found a good place.
Unlike usual, they didn’t eat in a restaurant.
They saw a food stall with many customers, so they stopped to try it.
The stall was located in an open space, with plastic chairs and tables neatly arranged. While waiting for their order, the duo talked about many things.
She also asked him why Aria summoned him. After he explained, she nodded in satisfaction and said he was worthy of being her junior.
A few minutes later, their orders finally arrived. Since they were starving, they immediately ate their food.
"This is quite delicious." She commented.
"You are right," he agreed. "No wonder this food stall has many customers. The price is cheap and the food is tasty."
The duo continued chatting while enjoying their food.
Several minutes later, they finished eating.
"Wait here. I want to pay and buy some for David and the others." He wanted them to taste the food as well.
"Un." Virelia nodded.
While Ren was heading to the owner, two delinquents were walking not far from the stall.
The moment they caught sight of Virelia, they stopped their footsteps instantly.
She was the most beautiful woman they had ever seen in their lives, so they were captivated by her beauty right away.
’So beautiful!’
They could not help but gulp their saliva as they stared at her pretty face, especially when they saw her seductive, pink lips.
"Brother Bruno, let’s try talking to her." The red-haired man named Kane could not suppress his desire anymore.
Bruno stopped him. "Wait! We need to make sure that she is not an awakener first. Otherwise, it will be fatal for us."
"Brother, have you forgotten where we are? I’ve never seen any awakeners come to this stall before." They were locals, so Kane knew the area very well.
He even recognized most of the people there, including the owner.
"Then, let’s try talking to her." Bruno grinned lewdly. "I hope we will be lucky today."
As they were approaching her, Virelia noticed them.
At first, she wanted to beat them right away, but decided against it when an exciting idea flashed through her mind.
"Beautiful lady, are you alone?" Bruno licked his lips as he stared at her big breasts lustfully.
"Can we join you?" Kane added. "Don’t worry. We are not bad guys. We just want to have more friends. Isn’t that right, brother Bruno?"
"That’s right. So, don’t be afraid. We won’t bite you." Bruno could almost not control himself since Virelia was more attractive up close.
One by one, the customers turned their heads toward them.
But even so, none of them tried to help Virelia.
Even though Kane and Bruno were not awakeners, they were martial artists, so they knew that they could not help her.
Rather than getting beaten up by those two delinquents, it was better to pretend they didn’t see anything.
After all, they didn’t know her, so they had no responsibility to protect her.
"Leave! I don’t want to talk to you!" Virelia pretended to be an ordinary woman.
Even though she was not an actress, her acting was flawless.
The grin on their faces grew bigger after hearing her words. She didn’t attack them immediately, so they were even more convinced that she was not an awakener.
Bruno sat in front of her and smiled. "Don’t be like that. Wouldn’t it be better to have more friends?"
"Beauty, why don’t you want to chat with us? Do you think we are bad people?" Kane sat next to Bruno.
"Isn’t that true?" She could tell from their behavior and appearance.
"Of course not!" Kane denied. "What makes you think we are bad people? Is it because we have many tattoos?"
"Beauty, tattoos are art," Bruno reasoned. "We love art, so we decided to tattoo our bodies."
"That’s right." Kane agreed. "So, stop treating us like bad people. You’re hurting our feelings, you know?"
Bruno nodded his head.
While they were harassing her, Ren returned to his table.
The moment he saw her being harassed by two thugs, his face darkened.
’What is she doing? Why doesn’t she just beat them up immediately?’
He could tell that Bruno and Kane were not awakeners, so he was confused about why Virelia didn’t teach them a lesson.
"Leave! I came here with my little brother. He will beat you if he sees you harassing me." She enjoyed the game so much.
"Little brother? Haha." They showed no sign of being terrified.
She was not an awakener, so they believed her younger brother was also an ordinary man.
The moment she noticed Ren, she rushed toward him. "Little brother, they are harassing me."
She pointed her right index finger at Kane and Bruno.
Kane shifted his gaze to Ren. "Young man, I suggest you don’t interfere in this matter or else you will regret it later."
"Just for information, we are awakeners." Bruno tried to scare Ren. "I’m a sand mage, while my brother is a lion shifter. If you do not want to get beaten, you better leave this place right now."
Their behavior changed completely when they talked to Ren.
"Awakeners? What a coincidence! I’m one as well." Ren turned into his beast form.
The moment they saw his transformation, their courage was replaced by fear.
’He... he is a shifter?’
The difference between awakeners and ordinary people was like heaven and earth.
No matter how powerful they were, it was impossible for them to defeat him, as they didn’t have supernatural power like him.
"Brot... brother, let’s talk nicely." Kane’s voice was trembling.
He no longer pretended to be an awakener since Ren was a shifter.
"That... that’s right." Bruno quickly nodded in agreement. "If... if you want, we can leave immediately. We won’t bother you anymore."
Without saying a single word, Ren punched them in the chest.
Bang!
They fainted as they were thrown into the air.
Ren didn’t attack them again.
Instead, he turned to Virelia.
"Why didn’t you beat them immediately?" he asked.
"How could a weak woman like me defeat two thugs?" she was still pretending.
The corner of his lips twitched.
’She is enjoying her game so much.’
He returned to his original form.
She grabbed his hand and said, "Lily and the others aren’t back yet. Let’s go to the park and relax there."
"Sure." He agreed right away.
