Chapter 84: Lily vs Axel
The moment Aria said they could start the fight, Lily turned into her partial transformation and charged at Axel.
But every time she tried to get close to him, he always put some distance between them and attacked her with lightning magic.
Since she could not gain an advantage on the ground, Lily shot into the sky and launched strikes from the air.
This time, she managed to corner him, but still could not injure him.
The onlookers cheered for her as they watched the battle. Even though they didn’t know who she was, they still gave her their full support.
It was a fight against the Nexus Organization, so they stood on her side since none of them wanted someone from the rival faction to win the battle, especially in their place.
"Junior, mages are weak in close-range combat! Use your speed to gain an advantage."
"Attack him from all directions!"
"Don’t forget to use everything around you."
One by one, they gave her a piece of advice.
Lily had no idea what was going on.
Maybe it was because they gave her their full support, or perhaps because Virelia had promised her dinner at a luxurious restaurant.
At that moment, she felt confident and full of energy to the point that she believed she would win the fight a hundred percent.
’I must not disappoint them.’
She increased her speed and attacked him from all directions.
Axel gritted his teeth as he launched counterattacks. Even though none of her strikes landed on him, he was still furious since someone like her could corner him in a battle.
’Damn it! What an annoying bird!’
He fought Lily three days ago.
At that time, she was only a little troublesome. Never did he expect her to grow stronger in such a short time, to the point that she became a threat to him.
’No! I can’t lose. I must not lose.’
He was known as a genius in his town.
He didn’t want to ruin his reputation by losing the fight, especially when his opponent was a woman.
While Axel was having a hard time, Ryven watched the fight in anger.
He previously thought Axel could crush her effortlessly, but the reality was completely different from his expectations.
Not only could Axel not beat her easily, but he was also at a disadvantage in the fight.
He was even defending more often than attacking.
It was as if Lily were an experienced shifter in the body of a young girl.
Unlike Ryven, Aria and Cassandra were thrilled.
Even though Axel always managed to avoid or block Lily’s strikes, they were satisfied with how the fight was going.
If Lily could maintain it, they believed it would only be a matter of time before she landed a deadly attack on him and won the battle.
"Great, Lily! Keep doing that!" David shouted with a happy face. "Remember! We will have dinner at a fancy restaurant if you win!"
The corner of Ren’s lips twitched as he looked at David.
"Hehe." Virelia could not help but giggle at his words.
"What’s with that look?" David noticed Ren’s gaze.
"This is the first time I’ve seen someone give encouragement in such a way." Ren had never seen anyone use the same method as David before.
"Lily likes food. That is the best motivation for her." David returned his attention to the arena and pointed his right index finger at her. "Look! She is becoming more motivated after hearing that."
"Hmm? It seems like it worked." Ren was a little surprised.
"Not seems. It did work!" After saying that, David turned to Elara. "Elara, food is a good motivation, right?"
"Un, un." Elara nodded enthusiastically.
Virelia tapped Ren’s left shoulder and asked, "Have you forgotten the name of our group?"
"Ah, right! I forgot." Ren remembered it.
At the same time, Axel’s lackeys watched the battle while clenching their fists in fury. It could be said he was one of the keys to winning the spar.
If he lost to her, the possibility of them getting back their space rings would decrease drastically.
"Axel, focus!" Jax shouted. "You can still turn the tables if you keep a cool head."
"That’s right," Rian added. "You are one of the strongest among the new recruits. You can definitely defeat her!"
Axel tightened his grip on his staff as their words of encouragement reached his ears.
’That’s right. I’m a powerful mage. I can defeat her!’
His movements and attacks suddenly became better as if he had just gained enlightenment.
"Die!" Lily transformed her feet into talons and dove down from the sky.
Boom!
Debris exploded in all directions as her talons slammed into the ground.
Just as she was about to launch another strike, two lightning chains burst out of the magic circle beneath her.
Axel’s lips curled up into a grin as he approached her slowly. Now that she was entangled by his magic, she could not fly around and attacked him from the air like before.
’Lightning Bolt.’
A blue lightning shot toward her, landing on her chest and strengthening the passive attack of the lightning chains.
Axel didn’t stop there.
He kept attacking her with the Lightning Bolt magic in the same area as if he wanted to torture her for making him look pathetic earlier.
Screams of agony filled the air as Axel’s strike hit her body.
When another bolt of lightning struck her chest, Lily’s body turned weak, causing her to drop to her knees.
"How does it feel? Does it hurt a lot?" Axel’s lips curled up into a grin.
He hated her to the bone, so he enjoyed the sight very much.
"Nice, Axel!" his lackeys shouted happily.
"Looks like I was worrying too much." Ryven let out a sigh of relief.
Lily rose to her feet and roared. "I WON’T LOSE FOR THE SAKE OF FOOD!"
The lightning chains shattered into pieces as she unleashed her full strength. Once she was free, she charged at Axel immediately.
"Haha." David laughed loudly. "See! I was right. Haha!"
"Hehe." Elara and Virelia giggled softly.
"It seems like I underestimate the power of food." Ren finally realized that her love for food was greater than he thought.
Half of the onlookers were stunned by her words.
’Food?’
They shifted their gaze to Ren’s group.
’Did they promise to give her food if she wins?’
Some of them laughed loudly because they found it funny.
Bang!
Axel’s body was slammed into the arena wall.
Lily didn’t stop.
It was a good opportunity to end the fight, so she kept attacking him with her daggers.
"Aagghh!" Axel cried out in pain as his robes turned red with his blood.
He tried to fight back, but Lily didn’t give him a chance to recover.
"Good, Lily! Keep attacking him!" David liked what she was doing to Axel.
Axel had previously tortured her with lightning, so hearing his screams and seeing his robes soaked in blood was incredibly satisfying.
While David was grinning happily, Axel’s followers kept telling him to fight back.
However, their screams didn’t change anything.
Lily didn’t let him recover, so he kept getting beaten up by her.
"Hey, you forgot what happened after we completed the quest, right? Let me help you remember it." She transformed her feet into talons and shot into the sky.
Once they were at a sufficient height, she folded her wings and dove downward at incredible speed.
Just before they hit the arena floor, she released him and flew back up.
Boom!
A thunderous sound filled the air as his body slammed into the arena.
The onlookers still didn’t know what was going on as their view was blocked by the cloud of dust.
’Did she manage to defeat him?’
A question flashed through their minds.
The moment the cloud of dust cleared, their curious expressions turned to joy.
"Well done, junior!"
"Haha! Great! She won!"
"Did you see that? That is the power of food! Haha."
They were delighted when they saw Axel lying on the ground unconscious.
She was representing their organization, so her winning was also theirs.
"What?!" Ryven widened his eyes in disbelief.
Even though Axel was not a top genius like Alice, he was still a powerful mage, so Ryven was stunned by the result of the battle.
’Damn it!’
His surprised face instantly turned angry.
Axel was one of his key fighters, so his defeat reduced their chances of winning the spar.
"He... lost?!" Axel’s lackeys found it hard to believe what they were seeing.
Lily didn’t look strong, yet she still managed to defeat their leader.
"What should we do? We can lose our space rings later." Rian’s expression turned panicked.
"Don’t worry. We still have Alice." Jax tried to calm Rian. "I’m sure she will help us win this spar."
"Yes. We still have her." Vito and Luka turned to Alice.
"Hmf! You are not as strong as you claim!" Lily turned around and walked off the arena.
"Well done, Lily!" David gave her a thumbs-up.
After sitting down in her chair, Lily looked at Virelia and grinned happily. "Zara, I won. You have to take us to a fancy restaurant later."
"Sure," Virelia replied.
Lily took out a health potion and drank it.
"Ren, it’s your turn now," Cassandra said.
Ren nodded before finally heading to the arena.
Once he was in the center of the fight zone, Ryven said, "Alice, go and face him."
Alice didn’t say anything and immediately headed to the arena.
After they stood facing each other, Aria said, "You can fight now."
