Chapter 76: The End of the War
Axel and Ren stopped fighting and turned their heads toward the source of the sound.
"We are in the middle of facing magical creatures. Why are you fighting again?" Bernard was enraged and disappointed at the same time.
They were hired to eliminate the beasts, yet they fought each other in the middle of the war.
"Guys, stop. Please focus on the battle." Tomas also found it hard to believe what he was seeing.
He knew the enmity between them was deep, but he never expected they would still fight in the middle of a war.
"Village Head, he attacked me from behind when I was facing the monster’s boss." Ren paused and pointed his right index finger at David. "Look at my friend! He also injured him."
He continued, "I would not have fought him if he hadn’t attacked us first. I’m just teaching him a lesson for hurting his allies."
Bernard and Tomas shifted their gaze to David.
’This is...’
They quickly returned their attention to Axel.
"He is lying! They attacked me first!" Axel twisted the facts. "I was facing that Hobgoblin, and they attacked me. I was just defending myself."
"We attacked you first?" Ren’s gaze was filled with coldness and anger.
"Please stop fighting. Let’s focus on the battle first." Bernard decided not to blame either party. "You can do whatever you want after this. I won’t stop you again."
"Guys, I hope you understand our situation." "Every second is important as we can lose many people at any moment."
Actually, Ren was still furious, but he decided to listen to them.
He rushed toward David and poured the health potion into his mouth. After that, he carried David and headed to where Elara and the others were.
"Gruk’er..." Varuk was disappointed when Ren left, as their fight still wasn’t over yet.
"Village Head, let’s return now. It’s dangerous here." They had no one to support them, so Tomas suggested they go back to their group.
"Alright." Bernard agreed.
Axel turned to Varuk and charged at him. "Since I failed to kill them, I will vent my anger on you and bury you here."
"KRRRAGH!" Varuk rushed toward Axel with an angry roar.
His behavior was completely different from before. He hated Axel to the bone since Axel had ruined his fight with Ren.
While they were fighting brutally, on the other side of the battlefield, Elara and the others were standing in front of Kragmar’s corpse.
Without any disturbance, they could kill him quickly. Luka and Rian were the reason they could not finish him off quickly before.
"Hmm?" Lily’s expression turned worried when she saw Ren carrying David. "Ren, what happened to him?"
Elara and Virelia also approached him with worried faces.
"It’s Axel. He did this to David." Ren gave a brief explanation.
Lily’s eyes burned with fury. "I will kill him!"
"Lily, stop!" Ren grabbed her hand.
"Why? Why did you stop me? Didn’t he also hurt you?" Lily could not keep her anger in check.
David was her childhood friend, and she really cared for him. She would not forgive anyone who hurt him.
"Village Head asked me to focus on the battle first when I was fighting him," Ren explained. "We will avenge David for sure, but not now."
Elara reached for Lily’s hand and said, "Lily, calm...calm down. We will beat them after this."
Lily clenched her fist as she suppressed her anger.
"Control yourself, Lily. We will make him and his followers pay tenfold later." After saying that, Virelia shifted her attention to Ren. "Have you given him a health potion?"
"Yes." Ren nodded.
"Cldhs..." David asked Lily to calm down, but he could not say it clearly.
His body was not as strong as Ren’s, so his recovery speed was much slower.
"Lily, I will let him in your care. I want to end this battle quickly." Ren chose Lily as she was David’s childhood friend.
"Un." Lily took David to a safe place.
Ren looked at Elara and Virelia. "Let’s eliminate the beasts now."
They nodded in unison.
Since their enemies were not at Kragmar’s level, the trio could handle them easily. Ren shook their souls with a thunderous roar while Elara and Virelia finished them off using their skills.
In less than ten minutes, they had reduced the number of their enemies to less than half. The trio was not ordinary awakeners.
Coupled with their good teamwork, the magical creatures were nothing more than chickens waiting to be slaughtered.
The villagers cheered in joy as they watched the trio slaughter the beasts. They had lost some people to the magical creatures, so the sight was like justice finally being delivered to them.
"Nice!"
"Keep going, guys! Show no mercy!"
"Beasts, this is your end."
Their spirits rose again.
They even felt power surge through them as if watching the trio mercilessly kill the magical beasts gave them new strength.
"Kill them!" the villagers roared while rushing to their enemies together.
Several minutes later, all magical beasts died, only Varuk was still alive.
Bang!
Varuk crashed onto the ground.
He was already heavily injured when he fought Ren, so he could not defeat Axel.
"Grak khit’er skree." Varuk believed he would not lose to Axel if he were in his perfect condition.
"I don’t know what you are talking about, but it won’t change your fate." Axel approached him slowly before finally stopping and lifting his right hand. "Now, perish!"
A bolt of blue lightning burst out of his palm, striking Varuk and piercing his skull.
Dug...
Varuk’s body collapsed to the ground.
Even though he had managed to kill the leader of the monsters, there was not a hint of happiness on Axel’s face.
He had failed to kill Ren and David, so his heart was filled with fury.
"Axel, how was the plan?" Rian and the others walked toward him together.
Axel gritted his teeth before answering, "Failed!"
"What?! How? What happened?" They were stunned because everything went according to their plans earlier.
"The Village Head stopped us again. Why the fuck did none of you prevent him from coming here?" Axel blamed them.
"Well, you ordered us to watch their group earlier," Luka replied.
"Yeah, so we didn’t notice him coming here," Jax added.
Axel’s eyes were bloodshot as he stared at them, but he didn’t yell again.
As rage burned through him, the battlefield was filled with shouts of triumph.
The villagers had finally avenged the fallen, and their village was no longer in danger, so their hearts throbbed with happiness.
"We won! We eliminated all the magical creatures!"
"Brothers, sisters, we’ve avenged you. Please rest in peace now."
"Darian, I killed three beasts. What about you?"
"Fuck! Really?"
"Haha. I’m amazing, right?"
"Jun, did you see my performance earlier? I slashed my sword like this, and the goblin’s head was separated from its body in the next second."
"I killed two magical beasts! I’m amazing!"
Most villagers shouted happily, while others boasted about their achievements.
Bernard smiled softly as he saw their happy expressions.
’It’s finally over.’
He turned his head in the direction where Ren and Axel’s groups were.
’Even though you gave me a headache a few times, thank you for helping us kill the magical creatures.’
