Chapter 125: Having you is enough

Nico

"Hey! You arrogant little piece of shit!" Geum-ho yelled from across the room, steadying himself against the wall as he glared at Alaric with pure hatred. He pointed a trembling finger at me, letting out another sick, twisted laugh. "Why the hell are you protecting him? Nicholas is completely ruined! He’s too damaged to ever be loved by anyone, and he doesn’t deserve it! Especially because I was the one who trained him to be exactly what he is! He belongs in the dirt!"

But while Geum-ho was in the middle of his loud, psychotic laughing fit, a massive shadow suddenly appeared right behind him in the open doorway.

A heavy, brutal hand struck him directly from the back. It was Uncle Anderson.

Anderson didn’t say a single word. He used his size to slam Geum-ho face-first onto the hard tile floor, completely overpowering him. Before Geum-ho could even scream, Anderson dropped to his knees, pinning him down and delivering a succession of vicious, bone-crushing punches straight to his face. The impacts echoed loudly in the small room, violently shattering Geum-ho’s already broken, plastered nose. Anderson punched him so hard, with so much unbridled fury, that Geum-ho instantly started coughing up thick splatters of blood onto the floor.

"You miserable piece of trash!" Anderson roared between punches. "I should have killed you last night!"

The absolute chaos escalated within seconds. The loud shouting and the sickening sounds of violence quickly drew the rest of the family inside the bathroom, and it suddenly became packed with shocked faces.

Through the crowd, my mother, Annie, came rushing toward us. Her face was pale, tears streaming down her cheeks as she pushed past the onlookers and reached out to touch my face. "Seo-jun! Oh my god, my sweet boy, are you alright?" she sobbed, her hands trembling against my shoulders. She whipped her head around, her eyes flashing with a sudden, vicious rage as she glared directly at my grandfather standing by the door. "Father is the absolute cause of all of this! Your sick, twisted rules are the reason my son had to live through this nightmare!" she yelled at the top of her lungs.

Grandfather stood rigid, his expression cold as he struck his cane against the floor. "Family comes first, Annie. Everything done in this house was for the sake of preserving our name, for the sake of making Seo-jun strong—"

"Father, stop saying that damn phrase!" Anderson roared, finally standing up from Geum-ho’s limp, bloodied body, his knuckles dripping with blood. "Look what your precious ’family name’ has done to this boy! It almost destroyed him!"

"To hell with this entire family!" my mother screamed, completely cutting them off. Her voice shook with a powerful, protective fury as she shielded me with her body. Then she moved towards Geum-ho and slapped him hard on the face. "You piece of trash!" she yelled and then faced my grandfather again. "My son’s happiness comes first! From this exact moment on, I am parting away from this disgusting family for good! If any of you ever dare to come after me or my son again, I swear to God I will sue every single one of you and ruin what’s left of your precious name!"

Without waiting for a response, she grabbed my arm tightly, pulling me out of the chaotic bathroom and dragging me down the hall into a private, vacant lounge room. Alaric followed right behind us, standing guard by the closed door to give us space.

The moment the door clicked shut, my mother turned to face me. The fierce, angry persona she had just shown completely crumbled, and she broke down into heavy, agonizing sobs. She pulled me into a desperate embrace, crying directly into my shoulder.

"I am so incredibly sorry, Seo-jun..." she wept, her body shaking violently against mine. "I didn’t know... I swear to you, I had absolutely no idea what they were doing to you. How could my sweet boy be suffering so much right under my nose, and I didn’t even notice? I was a horrible mother..."

She pulled back slightly, her tear-filled eyes searching mine with absolute desperation. "I don’t care if you’re gay, Seo-jun. I don’t care about any of that, as long as you have found someone who truly loves you and protects you. I should have noticed all those years ago... I am so sorry."

Looking at her broken expression, the lingering tightness in my chest slowly began to ease. "It’s alright, Mom," I murmured quietly, offering her a small, reassuring nod. "It’s okay. You know now and I couldn’t tell you anything because I didn’t want you to be unhappy.’’

My mother sniffled, wiping her nose with a tissue as a small, watery smile finally appeared on her face. She reached out, gently squeezing my hand. "I promise you, Seo-jun... I am going to watch your racing match this weekend. I’ll be right there in the front stands, and I am going to be cheering for you louder than anyone else in that arena. You go out there and show them exactly who you are."

I nodded and hugged her tightly.

"So about that boy Alaric. I have seen the way you look at him, Nico. Do you love him?"

I paused for a moment before replying to her. "Yes, Mom. I am in love with him."

My mother smiled sheepishly at me and then pointed a finger. "Oh, that’s my boy. I am so glad that you found love, boy, and I hope he loves you too."

There was silence from my end too. I didn’t know how I was supposed to tell my mother that I still didn’t know if Alaric loved me, not after what happened at the cabin.

But I had to give her a response and so I lied. "Yes, he does."

"I am glad," she said, sighing. "I am proud of you and I am sorry I didn’t know about everything. If there is anything you want me to do for you, Seo-jun, I’ll do it. I will make up for all those years that I have lost with you.’’

"Having you is enough, Mom," I told her and hugged her gently yet again.
