Chapter 897: Chapter 121: The Infected

Inside the Grand Palace, cries of battle rang out repeatedly.

Filthy blood flowed freely along the crevices between the floor tiles.

The Greek nobles in lavish costumes at the banquet mostly cowered like quails facing doom, hiding in the great hall and not daring to venture outside. Only a few military nobility picked up their weapons, ready to confront the enemy.

"Your Majesty, I have personally witnessed, those enemies are not human at all, but rather a group of demons!"

"Who has unleashed these demons? Haven’t the rebels already been imprisoned by us?"

"Or perhaps we should let the Inner Palace Guard escort us out of the encirclement!"

They chattered, proposing unworkable suggestions, and Ragaya couldn’t help but raise her voice: "Silence!"

Among the puzzled gazes, she rubbed her brow: "Ladies and gentlemen, pillars of the Empire, His Majesty Basileus has gone to trace the enemy’s source, with his elite forces and the Imperial Palace Guard joining forces to resist the monstrous villains. Within the palace, there are two distinguished ladies whose knowledge and magic power do not fall short of the Eldest Princess, as protectors. At this moment in Constantinople, there is no safer place than here."

At the same time, beside her, a woman donned in a peculiar hood with a barbarian race aesthetic and wearing an unusual yet aesthetically pleasing red-and-white battle outfit drew the sharp blade in her hand, which burst into raging flames.

"Worry not, everyone, sit at ease, as with us here, the enemy shall not succeed."

Viviana’s gentle voice quickly calmed the panicked crowd, while Prajna suddenly, feeling a sense, stood up and said, "I’ll go take a look outside."

...

Main road of the palace.

A row of Holy Knights clad in cross-embellished coveralls, with armed swords blazing with fierce flames.

The ferocious demons that lunged forward had their faces lit by the Holy Flame, covered in filthy blood and deformed tissues, surprisingly showed a trace of distinct fear on their seemingly mindless faces.

Holy Radiance focuses on honing spiritual power, and the tempering between life and death in battle records significantly enhances it—though it’s difficult to replicate such improvement in reality since few survive such trials.

These rounds of tempering have rapidly sprouted their Holy Radiance Seeds, as Jeanne put it, they can now entirely stand shoulder to shoulder with official members of the Holy Church’s knights.

They abandoned the kite shield marked with the cross and, wielding swords in both hands, plunged into the enemy ranks as tigers into a pack of wolves, with swathes of demons swept clean, killed, and arrows rained down from the high tower covering layer upon layer, shooting down a large crowd of enemies.

Though the demons are strong, they lack intelligence, and the operatives behind them obviously haven’t focused their efforts here.

Otherwise, even with Losa’s elite forces present, facing these demons whose individual strengths are close to ten times that of a normal person, they would have already collapsed utterly.

But the enemy far exceeded just one origin; they could scale walls at will, even infiltrate ponds. Soon, a Greek guard unit, facing dozens of demons alone, was crushed completely.

"What on earth are these monsters!"

A Greek soldier was knocked down, a demon opened its bloody mouth, and bit down hard on his armor, the iron locks creaking ominously.

Another Greek soldier was knocked off his helmet, then was dashed to the ground by a demon. His companion valiantly decapitated the demon with a sword, splattering the soldier’s face with the demon’s viscous blood.

Just as he was about to pull him up, he found the blood-splattered soldier’s eyes turned crimson, followed by opening his mouth to bite down viciously.

"Damn, don’t touch the blood of these monsters; they can infect!"

"God, are you really going to abandon us?"

The Greek soldiers have seen demons before, quite familiar to them, but none in such numbers, such strength, and with contagion in addition.

It’s far beyond their maximum threshold to bear; total collapse of the battle line seems an inevitable conclusion.

...

Royal Garden.

Compared to the lesser demons attacking the palace, Losa and the others faced fewer adversaries, besides Tashia herself, there were only four demons.

One demon appeared to be primarily a werewolf, its physique robust like a grizzly bear, with four mutated arms cluttered with deformed claws, overall presenting an impression of disorderly ferocity.

Another demon seemed to be a dragon of thin Dragon Blood originally, with a pair of tattered wings and a lizard-like head growing sparse horns covered in weeds, seemingly smaller than the wolf monster.

At this moment, it shook its wings, hissing akin to a snake spitting, looking at Ladon, the colossal entity, with not a single trace of fear that a lesser Dragon Species should possess—rather, a madness eager to devour and chew it.

Following was a blood-drenched giant bat, as if soaked in a pool of blood for countless years, with its flesh blurred body, eyes opening and closing with each breath filled with an eerie aura.

Lastly, a creature estimated to be a hybrid of a Siren Sea Monster, or a serpentine person, with its lower half covered in barnacle-like tough scales akin to the underside of a ship’s hull.

The upper half being smooth feminine, with a slightly aesthetic face partially covered by bone-like proliferation organ, revealing eyes seemingly imprisoned a tragic soul, filled with sorrow and pain, invoking a natural sense of pity.

Just as Tashia said, they were alive, controlled by a plague that augmented their powers manifold.

Since they were warriors possessing Extraordinary Power, after Tashia’s modification, they became extraordinarily formidable foes that even Jeanne and others perceived as somewhat dangerous.

"Look, didn’t I say so?"

Tashia evidently felt satisfied with her creations, despite their grotesque appearance devoid of beauty.

Losa responded with a cold laugh.

"Oh, dissatisfied?"

Tashia paused in her expression, then chuckled: "Indeed, the materials to create them were inherently poor, achieving this effect in a short time is already the utmost. Had I used materials like you, I could create something even more perfect, possibly rivalling ancient gods."
