Chapter 248: Chapter 246: Song Jiayan’s Song Is a Huge Hit
The vine swung and came to a stop just a meter in front of Wen Ying.
The cameraman’s heart leaped into his throat. ’It’s not going to attack, is it?!’
He gripped his equipment, about to intervene, when he saw the monkey take the bird’s nest off the vine and place it carefully on the ground.
Although the forest floor was uneven, covered with rocks, branches, and all sorts of things, the bird’s nest remained perfectly stable.
The cameraman was utterly baffled, as was everyone in the livestream chat.
They had thought the monkey was going to attack Doctor Wen, but now it seemed its mouth was twitching into what looked like a smile, albeit a rather ugly one.
It didn’t get any closer to Doctor Wen. Instead, it flashed her that smile, pointed a paw at the bird’s nest on the ground, and chittered, "Zizi, zizi!"
Wen Ying took two steps forward, looked at the supplies in the bird’s nest, and was very satisfied.
"Thank you. I’ve received your gift."
Hearing Doctor Wen’s words, the monkeys began to dance with joy, one after another.
It was as if they had accomplished something incredible.
The cameraman’s jaw dropped so wide you could fit a salted duck egg in it.
"I didn’t bring any bananas this time, but I’ll bring some for you next time. You can go about your business now."
The monkeys nodded at Wen Ying, then turned and scurried up the trees.
They quickly disappeared from sight.
The cameraman couldn’t hold it in any longer. "Doctor Wen, why would those monkeys help you find supplies?"
Wen Ying lifted the supplies with both hands, looking thoughtful. "Maybe they want me to treat them?"
The cameraman’s mouth twitched. He really couldn’t argue with the reason Doctor Wen had come up with.
After all, Doctor Wen was a psychologist. ’But can animals get mental illnesses, too?’
The question seemed to cross biological species, so the cameraman thought about it for a moment and gave up.
"You’ve got the supplies. What are you planning to do next, Doctor Wen?"
The cameraman had a strange thought; he felt as if Wen Ying was very familiar with this forest.
"It’s almost dark. We’re obviously going back to laze around like salted fish. These supplies are enough for us to eat tomorrow, so why bother competing?"
The cameraman was speechless. "..."
’Great,’ he thought. ’I shouldn’t have asked that question.’
But it was indeed getting dark.
Wen Ying headed back, carrying the supplies.
When Song Jiayan and Xu Jiali saw Wen Ying, they were thrilled!
Especially when they saw Little White on Wen Ying’s shoulder.
Their pillar of support had finally returned!
The Fox Immortal!
"Little White, Little White, did you miss me?" Xu Jiali stood in front of Little White, who immediately leaped into her arms.
Song Jiayan had also made a lot of progress; he no longer kept his distance in silence like before.
"Doctor Wen, let me organize this."
Wen Ying didn’t refuse.
Song Jiayan took the supplies out of the bird’s nest: two packs of instant noodles, a bag of rattan pepper chicken feet, three apples, a loaf of bread, a pack of dried noodles, and a bottle of water.
These were the most abundant supplies they had gotten all day!
Xu Jiali was drawn over as well.
"This is enough for us to eat tomorrow, right?"
Song Jiayan nodded. He didn’t eat much, and neither did Xu Jiali. Doctor Wen was probably about the same.
"Mr. Cameraman, our mission for today is basically complete. You can go back and rest now, right? No need to film tonight, I assume?" Wen Ying took the initiative to ask.
The cameraman was the one assigned to follow Wen Ying. Hearing this, he felt that she had a point.
He immediately requested instructions from the director and was told he could go back.
After saying goodbye to everyone, the cameraman left.
With that, Xu Jiali started acting like a kid let out for recess.
"It’s finally over, it’s over! I’ve been on pins and needles all day, constantly afraid of getting canceled by the netizens!"
Song Jiayan looked at her and smiled.
With Xu Jiali’s personality, so incredibly free-spirited, you couldn’t tell she’d been scared at all.
Still, it was nice to be free. Without the camera pointed at him, even the air felt fresher.
Wen Ying was also feeling bored. Suddenly, she remembered something and dashed off in the direction the cameraman had gone.
"What’s wrong with Sister Yingying?" Xu Jiali asked, confused.
Song Jiayan shook his head. He didn’t know either.
Only Wen Ying herself knew: she had forgotten her phone!
When filming for the day ended, they were supposed to get their phones back, but she had been so caught up in the moment that she’d forgotten!
A long night stretched ahead. Was she supposed to just stare at the stars all night?
When the cameraman saw Wen Ying catching up to him, he was a little embarrassed. "Doctor Wen, you don’t have to see me off. It’s a quick trip back for me; the director has already moved the crew over to this side of the forest. Besides, it’ll take you a while to get back."
"I came to ask about our phones. Didn’t you say that when filming stopped, you would return them to us? Even if it’s only for the winning team, that would be us, right?"
The cameraman felt a bit awkward. ’So she wasn’t here to see me off after all.’
"I remember that, don’t worry. I’ll go find the director right now and have him send the phones back to you!"
"No need for all that trouble. I’ll just go with you."
And so, the cameraman led Wen Ying back to the production crew’s camp.
When the director saw Doctor Wen, he had already prepared the phones for Wen Ying, Xu Jiali, and Song Jiayan.
"Doctor Wen, Doctor Wen! Later, could you ask Song Jiayan for me? You have no idea, his song has blown up online! A bunch of music platforms couldn’t get in touch with him, so they’ve been calling me. They all want to feature his song on their platforms, so ask him what he thinks."
Wen Ying agreed.
"And Xu Jiali, too! She’s blunt, sure, but she’s gained a lot of fans. Anyway, anyway, you’ll see when you get your phones back."
Wen Ying left with the phones. After returning, she relayed the director’s words to Song Jiayan.
Song Jiayan was silent.
He remained silent for a full half hour!
Xu Jiali looked at Song Jiayan’s expressionless face, unable to tell if he was excited or something else, and couldn’t help but speak up. "Song Jiayan, are you happy or not?"
Startled by Xu Jiali’s voice, Song Jiayan’s face finally flushed. "I... I’m very happy."
"If you’re happy, why didn’t you say a single word? We thought something was wrong with you! This is great news. Haven’t you always wanted your songs to be heard by more people? Now you finally have the chance. Congratulations, Song Jiayan. You’re a real singer now."
"I really am happy. I was just so happy I didn’t know what to say."
But it wasn’t just that. Song Jiayan also had a concern.
Right now, he was on his own—completely independent. He had no company and no studio, and he didn’t know how to communicate with these platforms.
But there was no point in saying any of this. He couldn’t possibly ask Wen Ying and Xu Jiali to help him, could he?
So he was both lost and happy.
"Little Song, are you worried you don’t know how to negotiate with the platforms? Are you thinking about an exclusive pay-to-listen deal, or something else?"
Wen Ying’s question only made Song Jiayan more confused. "I... I don’t know either."
"Then I’ll find someone to ask. You don’t understand this stuff, and honestly, neither do we."
Different professions are like different mountains.
