Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Making His Wife Happy
The elevator doors closed.
The space instantly felt confining.
Sophie Shaw started struggling again. She writhed desperately on Alaric Blackwood’s shoulder, pounding on his back until her own hands ached, but the man didn’t move an inch. He didn’t even frown.
’So sturdy...’
’His muscles are as hard as rocks.’
Sophie Shaw ran out of ideas, and her voice softened. "Alaric Blackwood, when are you going to put me down? I just had lunch. Are you trying to make me throw it all up?"
Hearing this, Alaric Blackwood finally reacted.
He supported Sophie Shaw’s waist and lowered her from his shoulder.
Before her feet could even touch the ground, he scooped up her legs and swept her into his arms, carrying her horizontally.
The man looked down at her with a half-smile. "Be good, and I’ll carry you."
"I have legs. I don’t need you to carry me. Besides, I have work this afternoon."
"This afternoon, and tonight, you and your time belong to me."
Alaric Blackwood’s tone was utterly domineering.
Sophie Shaw was furious and struggled in his arms. "Let go of me! I have things to do."
The man fell silent, no longer responding to her.
She swung her hand and slapped him across the face just as the elevator reached the first floor. The man acted as if nothing had happened, his expression unchanged. He just pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek and strode out of the elevator, still carrying her.
"Alaric Blackwood!"
As he walked, the man glanced down at her. "Here, wifey."
"Put me down."
"No. I like holding you."
"Do you want me to slap you again?"
"Go ahead. Didn’t you just slap me? If you’re still not satisfied, feel free to continue."
"You... What on earth are you trying to do?"
"Take you out to have some fun."
"?"
By the time Sophie Shaw was stuffed into the passenger seat of a red supercar, her mind had gone completely blank.
’He dragged me out of work by force just to have some fun?’
"Can you stop being so childish?"
Heart of the Ocean was just starting to pick up, and she was at her busiest.
"My wifey is unhappy, so my mission today is to cheer you up."
Alaric Blackwood’s tone was resolute.
He got into the car, started it, and floored it, speeding right up to the city’s speed limit. Once they were far from the city and in a zone with no speed limit, he slammed on the accelerator and drove at a breakneck pace.
Sophie Shaw rarely rode in fast cars. She nervously gripped the safety handle, watching the streetscape blur past the window. She sighed helplessly and gave in.
She didn’t care where Alaric Blackwood was taking her or what he was going to do.
She leaned back against the seat, a look of utter resignation on her face.
Alaric Blackwood glanced at her a few times, then increased the speed again. Before long, he pulled up to a theme park.
He parked the car and was the first to get out.
Sophie Shaw looked at the bustling entrance of the park and shot Alaric Blackwood a glare. "Do you think I’m a three-year-old?"
’He actually brought me to a theme park.’
Alaric Blackwood walked over to the passenger side, opened the door, and extended a hand to her.
She crossed her arms, sitting in the passenger seat, unmoved.
The man was surprisingly patient. He rested his hand on the car door and leaned down to look at her. "Not getting out?"
"I told you, I’m not a child."
"I remember you once told someone you wanted to come to this park with him."
Sophie Shaw froze for a moment as a memory flashed through her mind.
It was before Damian Morgan had confessed his feelings for her. He had been obvious about his affection and his pursuit, and she had feelings for him at the time, so she allowed his advances. She had even hinted that once she had a boyfriend, she’d want to come here with him.
At the time, this theme park had just opened, and promotional flyers were everywhere. A trend of ’taking your girlfriend to the theme park’ had swept through the campus.
The campus was full of couples, and many of them came here.
Unfortunately, after she accepted Damian Morgan’s confession, he never brought her.
She looked up at Alaric Blackwood, confused and surprised at how he could possibly know she had said such a thing.
"Still not getting out?"
"There are a lot of people here. It would be a bit embarrassing if I had to carry you in."
"I’ll count to three. If you’re not out by then, I’m carrying you."
"One..."
Before the word "two" could even leave the man’s lips, Sophie Shaw had already swung one leg out of the car.
After that, with a sour look on her face, she was reluctantly dragged into the park by Alaric Blackwood.
Sophie Shaw had always loved trampolines. She had desperately wanted to play on one as a child, but her parents were too busy with work to take her out. In college, when she got a boyfriend, she thought she’d finally get to go with him, but that wish never came true.
Alaric Blackwood dragged her onto thrilling pirate ships, pendulum rides, and drop towers. They even went on the roller coaster a few times. Then he noticed her gaze kept drifting toward the trampoline area, which was filled with the laughter of children. Alaric Blackwood smiled thoughtfully and finally pulled her toward the trampolines.
"I don’t want to play on this."
she said, her words belying her true feelings as she put on a look of resistance.
Alaric Blackwood nodded, then turned and bought two tickets from an employee.
"I said I don’t want to play."
"You don’t want to play, but I do. Is that okay?"
"..."
An employee opened the gate to the trampoline area, but Sophie Shaw was too embarrassed to go in.
"It’s all kids. Maybe we should just... Hey!"
With a cry of surprise, her feet left the ground. Alaric Blackwood had grabbed her by the waist and lifted her up. He placed her on the trampoline, and not wanting to leave her there to be embarrassed alone, he followed her into the paradise filled with the joyous laughter of children.
With a single bounce, he sent her and the children flying high into the air. Her ears were filled with the kids’ screams and laughter.
She was reserved and nervous at first, but it didn’t take long for her to let loose completely, jumping and tumbling into a heap with the children.
In the crowd, a man in black wearing a hat and a mask held a camera, aimed it at the two adults on the trampoline, and snapped several photos in quick succession.
...
Sophie Shaw spent the most time on the trampolines. As dusk fell, she got hungry and pulled Alaric Blackwood off with her.
Seeing her looking left and right, her bright eyes searching for food, a smile on her lips and two charming little dimples on her cheeks, Alaric Blackwood put his arm around her shoulders, leaned close to her ear, and asked, "Are you happy, wifey?"
"It was alright, I guess."
Spotting a mobile food cart, she pointed. "I want that, that, and that..."
Alaric Blackwood led her over and bought them one by one.
Her hands were full of snacks. She took a bite of one, then a bite of another, just trying everything. Whatever she couldn’t finish, she stuffed into Alaric Blackwood’s hands.
The man held the food she hadn’t finished and leisurely took a few bites. If he thought it tasted good, he’d finish it. If it was just average, he wouldn’t force himself.
The sky grew completely dark. Seeing it was about time, he took Sophie Shaw into a Chinese restaurant inside the park and ordered her favorite dishes.
After dinner, Alaric Blackwood walked out of the restaurant with his arm around her waist. They took a sightseeing shuttle to the park entrance, got back in the car, and returned to the city.
She thought they were heading home, but unexpectedly, the car pulled up to a designer flagship store. Alaric Blackwood coaxed her inside and helped her pick out a gown.
"I’ve been invited to a charity dinner tonight, and I need to bring a date."
Sophie Shaw crossed her arms, her mood souring again. "So spending all this time to cheer me up was just so I’d be your date to this dinner? That was your real goal all along, wasn’t it?"
"If I said no, would you believe me?"
