The treant crashed toward him like a moving mountain.

Reiji activated Shadow Step at the last second.

He reappeared above it and drove the flaming bone sword downward. The blade sank deep into the upper bark.

Soul Torture Flame burned brighter. Golden flames spread deeper through the creature this time.

The treant screamed again.

Its movements slowed noticeably.

Reiji didn’t let up.

He twisted the sword and pushed more mana into it. The flames intensified inside the monster. Cracks started forming around the core area.

He struck again.

And again.

Each hit weakened the regeneration further.

The golden flames were eating away at the core’s energy now. The treant launched one final desperate attack. Roots and branches whipped toward him from every direction.

Reiji vanished and reappeared directly in front of the exposed core.

The woman laughed warmly.

After paying, he left the shop carrying the bag.

He ate one crepe while walking toward a quieter area of the city.

The sweet taste brought a rare sense of normalcy.

For several minutes, Reiji simply stared into the distance.

The urge to go raiding surfaced again. But eventually, he shook his head. Tonight would be different. Taking a short break wasn’t the worst thing in the world.

He walked over to the bed and dropped onto it.

Vel curled up nearby.

As Reiji stared at the ceiling, one priority stood above all others.

Everything eventually came back to Bond Points. His next meeting with Hina would probably be intense.

Possibly exhausting. Definitely dangerous. But it was also necessary.

The world’s last man still had a long way to go before he could truly dominate the challenges waiting ahead.
