Chapter 145: Chapter 138: A Perfect Surgery, Conquering Liang Ang and Liu Rong
The two teams met in the conference room.
Shen Guofeng already knew Professor Liang Ang and Dean Liu Rong. After a warm greeting, he began to speak.
Shen Guofeng then introduced Wu Ting’s team to them:
"Professor Liang, Dean Liu, thank you for coming to this surgical consultation. As of now, Dr. Wu Ting’s team from City First Hospital and I have prepared a new surgical plan to present."
"Since you’re both here, let’s discuss it together and finalize the surgical team."
Shen Guofeng didn’t beat around the bush, getting straight to his presentation of the plan from Wu Ting’s team.
To provide a clearer demonstration, Shen Guofeng brought up a video of the last liver tumor resection he had performed with Wu Ting’s team.
Cheng Feng immediately logged into his cloud drive and played the video of the surgery.
It was the first time Professor Liang Ang and Dean Liu Rong had seen a procedure like this. At first, neither of them paid it much mind.
But as the video progressed, they both grew more and more focused.
Using a 3D imaging navigation platform combined with a fluorescent laparoscopy mode, it truly managed to locate the liver cancer lesion—and render it in real time.
Dean Liu Rong found the 3D imaging navigation technology, in particular, hard to believe.
"Professor Shen, forgive me for being blunt. Our hospital is also developing 3D visualization technology, but we can’t get anywhere near the level of real-time rendering that Dr. Wu Ting’s team has achieved."
"Did you... develop this from scratch?"
Dean Liu’s expression was solemn, filled with respect.
"That’s right. This was a collaboration between our Dr. Wu and Dr. Ling Ling. Dr. Wu pioneered it, rewriting the programming algorithm from the ground up and incorporating core AI and deep learning algorithms."
Professor Shen explained with a hint of pride.
Cheng Feng deliberately sped up the playback, and the video of the surgery soon came to an end.
"Professor Liang, Dean Liu, I should add something. Since that surgery, Dr. Jin Yan from Saint An Hospital has joined Wu Ting’s team. After several days of testing, adjustment, and optimization, they’ve perfectly integrated ultrasound-assisted technology as well."
"So, for this operation, we propose a liver tumor resection combining three technologies: indocyanine green fluorescence, the 3D imaging navigation platform, and ultrasound assistance."
"With this assistive technology, I’ve formulated the following surgical plan... For the cancerous lesion in segment VII, ultrasound alone can’t detect it. However, by combining fluorescence technology, real-time 3D imaging, and an AI algorithm that eliminates interference from cirrhotic nodules, we can achieve perfect localization of the lesion..."
Shen Guofeng, who possessed profound expertise in liver tumor resection, carefully analyzed the key points and difficulties of the proposed surgery.
After hearing Professor Shen’s plan, both Professor Liang Ang and Dean Liu Rong nodded repeatedly.
"Dean Xu, I don’t think there’s any point in comparing other plans for this surgery."
Professor Liang Ang’s interest in this new assistive technology was clearly piqued.
Dean Liu Rong went even further, extending an invitation to Wu Ting:
"Dr. Wu, your programming algorithm is simply astounding. To be frank with you all, in our lab at Jin Country General Hospital, we’ve been researching this very same 3D visualization. We even collaborated with a professor’s team from the computer science department at Xingke University."
"One of our department heads and two associate chief physicians from Hepatobiliary Surgery provided all the clinical data and conceptual support, while the professor from Xingke University assigned two of his top doctoral students to support the programming algorithm. We’ve been working on it for over two years, and our current results are still limited to animal testing in the lab."
"I never imagined Dr. Wu’s team could have already reached this stage. I’m truly impressed!"
"After this surgery is over, I absolutely must pick your brain. And when you have time, please come visit our hospital for an academic exchange."
Dean Liu praised Wu Ting effusively and agreed with Professor Liang Ang’s assessment:
"If we were talking about a conventional liver tumor resection, we might have debated with Professor Shen over the pre-operative planning, and we might have had differing opinions. During the actual procedure, we would also be confident in our ability to perform a more meticulous resection. But ultimately, that would all be based on experience, manual dexterity, and even some completely subjective ’blind’ maneuvers without a clear surgical field."
"But this new assistive technology from Dr. Wu Ting’s team is a complete game-changer. We’re witnessing a generational leap in technology and methodology."
"Professor Shen, in the face of such a massive generational gap in technology, conventional experience becomes meaningless."
"If Professor Shen wouldn’t mind, Old Liang and I would be honored to assist you. Let’s perform this surgery together."
"Dr. Wu Ting, I greatly look forward to seeing your new and perfect triple-combination laparoscopic assistive technology in action!"
Vice Dean Xu Zhisheng had expected to hear Professor Liang Ang’s and Dean Liu Rong’s proposals as well. He never thought that, in the face of such superior technology, the two professors would immediately concede.
Huo Yun and the others, who were observing from the side, were just as excited and thrilled.
’As expected! The more prominent the professor or expert, the better they could appreciate the significance of Wu Ting’s achievement!’
Professor Shen hadn’t expected the consultation to proceed so smoothly either.
"That’s wonderful! In that case, I’ll be counting on both of you to help me with this surgery."
"Wu Ting, and you three Doctors—go to the operating room now and start preparing. The two professors and I will carefully review the patient’s imaging data and finalize our pre-operative plan."
