Chapter 115: Royal High House Of Snow

The deck of the flagship was absolute chaos.

At first, many people raised their doubts on Evelina’s claims.

There was no such premium fabric that could persevere the chill of icebergs during long voyages. So, the idea seemed way too foreign.

But Evelina announced a live testing.

She picked the people who were criticizing her the most and asked them to try it on. An those people realized that every word coming out of her mouth was true.

The fire fox fur was like a burning fire, providing them with steady warmth.

They wanted to save their faces and continue pretending but they also didn’t want to let go of a treasure.

The others noticed their reactions.

Soon, the news spread around the nearby places and some more local tycoons gathered.

The locally rich men from every corner of the Grand Capital Port were shoving each other, their eyes wild with greed.

At the center of the deck, the two rare fire-fox furs lay on a velvet display table. They radiated a visible orange warmth that cut right through the freezing harbor fog.

To the rich sailors and idle merchants, it was like a miraculous shield against the deadly blizzards of the eastern sea routes and such a rare item would definitely see an increase in its value in near future.

Who wouldn’t want it?!

"One hundred thousand gold coins!" a fat spice mogul screamed, throwing his jade token onto the wood.

"One hundred and fifty thousand!" a silk merchant roared right over him, pushing the mogul aside, "Two hundred thousand!"

The bids were flying so fast the ship’s clerks could barely write them down.

The atmosphere was thick with tension and nobody seemed to care any longer about Master Lu or his rulebooks.

Evelina stood calmly on the upper deck, looking down at the frantic crowd. She didn’t say a word, but her mind was calculating the numbers at lightning speed.

She found it ironic how the people who were all ready to corner her had now completely flipped and forgotten their own words as they fought over the rare fur.

Right behind her stood Ace. His dark eyes weren’t looking at the greedy merchants or the mountain of gold tokens piling up.

His gaze was locked tightly onto the back of Evelina’s head.

His chest heaved slightly. He had recognized those exact fire-fox furs the moment they were brought out.

She saved me, Ace thought to himself, a hint of red coating his cheeks. She acts like she hates me but for someone who isn’t used to suffer a loss, she used her highest-tier treasure to keep me from freezing to death.

Maybe, she is doing this auction to clear my misunderstandings as well? Hope ignited in Ace’s eyes, ’Is this her way of telling me she cares for me?’

Alas, if Evelina could hear his thoughts, she would probably tell him he was overthinking.

The fire fox fur blankets were indeed a precious item but they had been purchased from the System just for Ace.

As for the current situation, she could have used any other item that was a little rare and the result would be same.

Because the people were more or less mystified by what was new and unseen. To them, she and her people were unknown yet intriguing and so were anything she brought out.

It was the nature of the world.

Just like people of Aurelia had reacted to the Steam Engines.

But Ace was too lost in his delusions to put thoughts into any thing else.

In fact, even if somebody told him the truth, he would chose to close an eye and pretend he didn’t hear it.

Down below, the bidding war reached its final breaking point.

"Five hundred thousand gold pieces!" the richest shipping tycoon present on the port finally bellowed, slamming a purple diamond bank scroll onto the counter, "None of you can outbid my House! Drop your tokens!"

Silence slammed down on the deck.

The other merchants gasped, their mouths open, completely defeated by the staggering amount.

"Five hundred thousand gold pieces, going once," A pleasant smile, like that of a satisfied fox crept on Evelina’s face, "Going twice. Sold."

The crowd erupted into a deafening roar of whispers and awe.

Evelina had purchased these furs through the System using Heartwrecker Points converted to gold.

Now, she had just sold them for a massive sum that was literally hundreds of times more than her original investment.

Her finances that had hit rock-bottom lately immediately soared the moment she reached Jade Dynasty.

[Reward: 5,000 Gold]

[Current Gold: 5,000]

Alongwith the bid amount, Evelina finally moved from zero money on her liquid gold and gained some numbers.

Her eyes sparkled even as her elegant front didn’t waver.

But in Ace’s eyes, he could almost see a few fox tails shooting up behind his wife.

’Does... she like money this much?’ He blinked, realizing his wife’s fondness of money had grown even more than before.

By this time...

The merchants began to whisper about Evelina already, "She isn’t a regular foreigner... Or, how could she hoard such treasure?"

’’Right, look at the man behind her... He is assuming the position of a bodyguard but his stature...’’

’’They seem far from ordinary. How could there be a guard with such staggering presence?"

The discussions kept growing.

But the commotion and the roaring crowd had drawn too much attention.

Suddenly, the heavy thud of military boots echoed from the stone docks.

The chatter on the ship instantly died down as a harsh voice barked from below, "Make way! Clear the decks for the Royal High House!"

Thirty elite imperial guards, dressed in silver armor and carrying heavy halberds, aggressively marched onto the dock.

They pushed the crowd aside like cattle, forming a defensive wall around the flagship’s gangplank.

Walking slowly through the center of the guard formation was a woman.

She wore flowing winter robes made of white crane silk, embroidered with real silver threads that caught the morning light and sparkled with every step she took.

Whispers erupted in the place.
