Chapter 109: Heirloom As An Entry Pass

Both the people stayed silent in the face of Evelina’s questions.

Selene looked away, barely able to hide her hatred while Baron Snow wept endlessly.

Ace didn’t let Evelina repeat herself a second time as he took a step forward.

His eyes held a visible warning and the air became so cold that Baron Snow choked on his tears and shivered.

"We are fleeing... We are fleeing to the Jade Dynasty!" Baron Snow shrieked, seeing the hint of impatience on Ace’s face.

He slammed his forehead repeatedly against the hard coal to beg for mercy in front of Ace.

"We had no choice, Your Grace...The banishment was... it was ruthless to us. We are traveling across the sea to visit someone who can help us re-establish our lives!"

He wept loudly, his voice echoing in the hold, "I swear, we didn’t know this was your ship, Evelina. Please, help us explain to the Duke, you are still my daughter, don’s forget that..."

To Evelina, it was clown show. Even when he was begging for help, the arrogant Baron Snow didn’t forget to threaten her.

But she didn’t care much of his except one part that caught her attention.

The Jade Dynasty was an ancient empire that was isolated from most of the continent and it guarded its boundaries with great force.

In her past life, she had even caught words of how outsiders were executed on sight at the maritime borders.

Someone from a foreign kingdom could never simply walk in to ’visit someone’ without an official invitation.

"To enter the Jade Dynasty, one requires a high-level or imperial clearance," Evelina looked at Baron Snow suspiciously, "What about the entry pass? I’m sure you are smart enough that you wouldn’t be planning to breach the empire’s borders."

Baron Snow caught his breath, his eyes darting frantically around the dark place.

He clamped his mouth shut and started sobbing and weeping again, noisier than before.

But both Evelina and Ace noticed the weirdness in his actions.

Ace’s hand grabbed a dagger from nearby as he flipped it in his hand.

The pure killing intent in the air froze Baron Snow’s theatrics, making him shiver.

"We have an entry pass!" Baron Snow screamed with a wail when Ace took half a step towards him, "We are carrying an heirloom with us. It is a verified entry ticket for us.They will recognize us because of it!" He blurted out in one breath.

Evelina’s gaze sharpened.

She walked towards the man and looked down at him with a cold, mocking expression.

"An heirloom? A family that was fully banished by the crown and had its assets seized possesses an entry token to the wealthiest empire in the world? Hard to believe..." Evelina paused and tilted her head to the side, "I would like to see it for myself."

"No!" Selene screamed from the ladder, her voice filled with rage, "You can’t take it! It belongs to us. You are just an unfilial wretch... We are still your family, if you threaten us...!"

"Threaten my family?" Evelina let out an icy laugh, "I can do so much worse, you know."

Evelina didn’t even mind that Ace was standing there. She did not mince her words.

In her past life, she had watched over her words and actions in front of him. In this life, she didn’t care what he thought of her. Better if he thought she was heartless and left her sight.

Selene trembled in anger, "What are you..."

"You are stowaways on a private ship right now. If I give the word, my crew will tie iron weights to your ankles and dump you both into the freezing sea. Nobody in the world would ever know you disappeared."

"You wouldn’t dare!" Baron Snow barked, trying to hold onto his past authority as a father, "You wouldn’t commit such an unfamilial crime!"

"I hate it when someone says I wouldn’t dare because the truth, I would... I would dare to do a lot of things you wouldn’t expect me to..." Evelina murmured, her voice bored.

"Why wouldn’t I? You didn’t hesitate for a single second when you threw your own daughter to a man just to secure a mountain of gold coins for your failing estate. You sold me off like merchandise. Why should I treat you as anything more than trash?"

Behind her, Ace’s face darkened instantly.

Hearing her say those words, he felt like somebody cut a piece off his heart.

Evelina didn’t care about the Duke’s inner turmoil.

She kept her icy glare locked onto her father, "The heirloom. Now. Or you can continue to test my patience in the water."

Realizing that Evelina was entirely serious, and seeing Ace’s hand ready to shove the blade down his throat at any given moment, Baron Snow broke down into tears.

Trembling, he reached deep into the hidden lining of his ragged coat. With shaking fingers, he pulled out a small velvet pouch.

He opened it with a weak hand, revealing a small jade token. The dark green stone caught the morning sunlight, reflecting a vivid glow.

Carved into the center of the jade was a delicate crest.

Evelina reached down and took the velvet pouch from his hand.

The second her bare skin made contact with the cold jade token, the System flickered in her vision.

Evelina’s breath caught in her throat as she looked at jade closely. She could feel a strange warmth from the jade.

Then, her eyes narrowed and her knuckles turned white as she squeezed the dusty velvet pouch containing the heavy jade token.

Evelina forcefully suppressed her shock, and forced her composure.

"Explain this," Evelina commanded.

Baron Snow swallowed hard, his eyes darting frantically to the left and right, desperately searching for an escape route that did not exist.

"It... it is just an old family heirloom, Evelina..." the Baron stammered, "A keepsake from your mother. I swear I kept it all these years to remember her."
