Chapter 143: Chapter 143; Leo’s first word
Alina’s POV
I tied my robe around my waist and went straight down the hall to the nursery. When I walked in, I was greeted by the sight of Aiden cooing over Leo. My baby boy seemed to be in the best mood, smiling brightly and laughing at his father.
Then, Aiden’s gaze shifted to me. "You are awake," he said softly.
I nodded and stepped closer to them, wrapping my arms around my middle.
"Alina," Aiden started, his eyes moving back down to our son. "Leo will be one next month, and I want us to have a party for him." He says with so much light in his eyes causing a genuine smile breaking across my face. "That would be good."
He looked up at me, surprise written all over his features, as if he couldn’t believe I had actually agreed to it so easily.
"Of course," I added, softening my tone. "It will be his first birthday."
Just then, Leo looked up and babbled, clearly forming the word, "Baba."
My eyes widened in absolute shock.
Aiden froze, his mouth dropping open slightly. "Did you hear what he said?"
"I heard it!" I said, so much happiness and excitement bubbling in my tone I could hardly contain it. "He called you baba!"
His excitement completely mirrored mine. I leaned closer to the crib, clapping my hands lightly. "Leo, what did you say? Say it again, come on."
Leo giggled, his little fists waving as he said, "Baba," again.
A small tear welled in my eye, overwhelmed by how fast he was growing. I smiled down at him and playfully pouted. "Leo, I am a little jealous you didn’t say mama."
Then, almost as if he understood exactly what I was asking for, Leo looked at me and babbled, "Mama."
My eyes widened all over again. I honestly wasn’t expecting a response from him. I gasped, looking up. "Aiden, he really called me mama!"
We were both smiling, completely wrapped in the beautiful, warm bubble, until Emily’s sharp voice abruptly popped it.
"How sweet. A family reunion," Emily said, thick irritation laced in her tone. A deep, bitter frown marred her face as we both turned to look at her standing in the doorway. "He called you baba, he called you mama. What’s next? You both rekindle your marriage?"
Aiden let out a heavy sigh, his joyous demeanor instantly evaporating. "Emily, why are you still here? Didn’t you say you were going for your doctor’s appointment?"
"I am," she snapped, crossing her arms defensively. "But I want to go with my husband. This child isn’t just mine, or have you forgotten that I am pregnant, Aiden?"
"I will send the maids to go along with you," he offered dismissively.
"This is fucking not right!" Emily yelled, her face flushing with anger. "Why should I go by myself? You never let Alina go for one appointment on her own, so why is mine different?"
How did she know about that? I thought to myself, frowning slightly. She was right, Aiden never let me go to a single check-up alone, but Emily wasn’t even in the country when I was pregnant.
"It doesn’t matter," Emily continued, glaring at him. "But I won’t go alone."
I sighed, deciding to just cut the tension before it escalated even further. I stepped back and interrupted. "Emily is right. It won’t be proper for her to go on her own, so you should follow her."
Aiden looked at me, genuine hesitation in his eyes. "Are really you sure?"
"Oh my fucking God!" Emily shrieked, sounding absolutely pissed. "You are asking her if she is sure that you will go along with your pregnant wife to the hospital, Aiden?!"
I ignored her completely, keeping my eyes locked on him. "Yes, I am sure."
Aiden smiled softly at me, a look of quiet appreciation. "Alright. Emily, I will go get ready."
He walked past her and left the nursery, leaving the two of us completely alone. The second he was out of earshot, Emily marched right up to me, her eyes narrowed into venomous slits.
"What spell did you cast on my husband?" she hissed.
"Spell?" I let out a dry, humorless laugh. "I won’t stoop so low. I am not you Emily and you know that."
"Don’t try to act smart with me," Emily threatened, stepping uncomfortably close.
A smirk played on my lips as I looked her up and down, completely unbothered by her intimidation tactics. "I don’t even need to try when it comes to you." I turned away from her.
"I know exactly what you are doing, Alina," she hissed, her voice vibrating with malice as she took a slow step behind me. "You really want both men, don’t you? This is your twisted little way of trying to teach me a lesson. But let me make this very clear, Alina—I won’t let it happen. You won’t have them both."
I turned slowly to face her, A cold, mocking calmness washed over me. I looked at her desperate face, and a sharp, devastating smile spread across my lips.
"But they want me both," I responded, my tone entirely light and airy. I tilted my head, watching her eyes flare with rage. "I mean... it’s not my fault the Moon Goddess gave me two handsome and powerful Alphas who are ready to kneel for me Emily, i did nothing."
My words struck a massive nerve. Emily’s face twisted in pure fury, her jaw clenching so hard I could hear the bone grind as she stood there, completely breathless with rage.
She opened her mouth, about to respond with what I assumed would be a screaming insult, but then we heard Aiden’s voice echoing from down the hall. Emily snapped her mouth shut, taking a step back. She glared at me one last time.
"This isn’t over," she spat.
I leaned in just a fraction, keeping my smirk firmly in place. "Seems pretty over to me," I whispered.
