Chapter 1299: Chapter 860: Mopping the Floor
"Busy lately?" Xu Shuang asked.
"Not really."
"Then why didn’t you come when we arranged a run?"
"Just that one time."
After the two had gotten closer, the conversation became less formal, with a bit of a confrontational vibe in the air.
Afterwards, Jiang Nian didn’t ask Xu Shuang to borrow money.
Thanks to some good luck and the credibility accumulated over the past six months, plus a three-party guarantee, the manufacturer shipped the goods first.
Luck played a role.
Because of this, his words carried more weight now.
Xu Shuang sounded a bit resentful, but she didn’t make a big deal out of it. Once she confirmed he didn’t need money, she dropped the subject.
"Never mind, I’ll just continue explaining the topics."
Zhao Yiqiu stayed perfectly still, trying to minimize her presence, feeling small and pitiful but wanting to keep her job.
"It’s okay if I fail a class, after all, it’s a humanities major."
"Just retake it if you fail."
Upon hearing this, Xu Shuang glanced at her.
"You have more money than you know what to do with?"
"Not much at all." Zhao Yiqiu laughed, waving her hand, "I’m usually very thrifty."
Xu Shuang: "...."
"Since you’re already in it, you should at least get your diploma and degree. Can’t just waste four years and money in vain."
"Yeah, yeah." Zhao Yiqiu nodded.
Actually, in her mind, going to school was just another part of working. Whether or not she got a degree didn’t really matter.
After all, she wasn’t making a living off her academic credentials.
"Same goes for you." Xu Shuang turned to look at Jiang Nian, "Not getting your certificate would be an injustice to all the hard work."
The two of them nodded obediently in agreement.
Before long, Xu Shuang went to the bathroom. Zhao Yiqiu and Jiang Nian practically collapsed onto their chairs in sync.
"Phew~~ scared the life out of me." Zhao Yiqiu patted her chest, "The boss is scarier than our teachers."
"Indeed." Jiang Nian agreed.
"Why would you risk failing too?" Zhao Yiqiu was curious, "Didn’t you score 700 on the college entrance exam?"
"Got lucky on the entrance exam." he replied.
Zhao Yiqiu: "?"
....
Afternoon.
Jiang Nian and Xu Shuang came back from their arranged run, sweating profusely, "Damn it, this woman runs ten kilometers."
College students are indeed resilient.
Xu Shuang’s physical condition was impressive too, comparable to the special forces next door at Qinghua University, but in the end, she was sweating buckets.
They pushed open the dorm door.
"Whoa~ how are you all sweaty on such a cold day?" Da Chao turned around with a look of surprise as he played his game.
"Why the hell do you talk so sticky?" Jiang Nian flung his jacket off and draped it over the back of a chair.
"Hehe, picked it up." Da Chao’s computer was on, browsing tips about celebrating New Year in Beijing online.
"I mean, have you found a place for New Year yet?"
"Nah, just gonna stay in the dorm." Jiang Nian sat down, opened his computer, and looked at the data. "What’s the hassle?"
"Hell, I don’t feel like celebrating either." Da Chao said, "But what choice do I have? One argument and it’s all over."
"All this fuss, you should just break up."
"Easy for you to say."
The dormitory fell silent for a moment, until Jiang Nian finished checking the data and responding to work messages.
He turned his head to ask Da Chao.
"Did you buy a gift?"
"For New Year?"
"Yeah."
"I did, some perfume." Da Chao took a gift box out of a drawer, "Last time she mentioned it smelled nice."
"Let me see." Jiang Nian walked over and glanced at it, "Does this stuff come in men’s versions?"
"It does, who’re you giving it to?"
"No, someone else is giving it to me." Jiang Nian said, not waiting to see Da Chao’s reaction, and went off to take a shower.
"Hahaha." Brother Bao Song laughed, turning his head, "Da Chao, aren’t you giving an extra gift for New Year?"
"Get outta here!"
Meanwhile, Jiang Nian returned from his shower. He also bought his ticket and planned to take a quick trip to Yuhang in the next couple of days.
As for failing classes, he left it up to fate.
At the moment, he was sure Zhang Ningzhi wasn’t going back to Zhen Nan for New Year. Yao Beibei talked tough but in all likelihood would go back once.
Xu Shuang definitely had to go back.
It was hard to say for the class president as she was over in Zhen Nan. She didn’t even have a place to stay, so she probably wouldn’t go back.
After his shower, Jiang Nian plunged into his studies.
On New Year’s Eve, only Da Chao was busy in the dorm room, making calls and buying flowers.
"Where’s that Jiang Nian guy?"
"Disappeared after class, no idea where he went."
The New Year arrived.
Jiang Nian was not worried at all, not from the start. He never had the habit of celebrating, and didn’t need to rush around.
Headed to Yuhang.
To be honest, is New Year even considered a holiday?
What’s there to celebrate in Beijing, even fireworks aren’t allowed. People cluster with phones in hand, just watching heads bobbing.
The biggest program for couples is heading back to the hotel after New Year, taking a shower, and getting on with it all night long.
Meanwhile, the single folks wander the streets in the middle of the night. Walk a few kilometers back to their dorm.
They casually post a moment, with a witty caption.
[Smile].
Under these circumstances, only a superhero could weave through the crowd and manage their time so well.
"Boss, are we going the wrong way?"
Old operations manager Fan Yixuan said boldly, "I bet, lingerie will definitely sell out on New Year’s Eve."
Jiang Nian: "...."
Damn it, married women speak without thinking. Why doesn’t she say Durex will be making a killing?
A few bucks each.
"Why worry about all that, we’re not making money off the youngsters." Jiang Nian waved it off and asked again.
"Have the factory samples come through yet?"
"Yeah."
"Alright, let’s take a look."
When it came to the supply chain, at first Jiang Nian sourced goods from stores, but as they expanded, he went directly to the factories.
Around Four Seasons Green, there were many factories, big and small.
Picking styles, drafting and confirming samples, Jiang Nian did it all personally. He checked for pattern, fabric, and workmanship.
If it wasn’t up to standard, they would revise immediately.
The beginning is always the hardest, and Jiang Nian not celebrating New Year wasn’t entirely because he was swamped; he was genuinely busy.
As night fell.
Jiang Nian returned to his apartment in Yuhang alone, standing on the balcony of the eighteenth floor, drinking water while answering a call.
"Why are you in the apartment?"
"Too many people outside." Qianqian complained, "My classmates said the roads outside are completely jammed."
