Chapter 257: Chapter 257: Travel Fee

Joseph Summers waited for a long time, but no cars came by. He had no choice but to go home and think of a plan.

After all, it was the dead of night. It would be a miracle if any cars passed by, especially in such a remote place.

As he passed Tristan Grayson’s car, he stopped and took a couple of steps back. When he saw the man sleeping inside with his legs propped up on the steering wheel, he grew excited and rapped on the car body twice. "Hey, young man, wake up!"

The pounding set off the car alarm. Tristan Grayson jolted awake, and seeing someone standing outside his window, he was instantly filled with irritation.

"What is it?" he asked coldly, reining in his temper.

"Young man, my grandson has a high fever. Could I trouble you to take us to the hospital?"

"And what’s your grandson’s fever got to do with me?" Tristan Grayson sneered, rolling up the window in annoyance.

"It has nothing to do with you, I know, but please, help us. We can’t get a cab at this hour, otherwise I wouldn’t be bothering you." If Joseph Summers weren’t so worried about his grandson, he never would have stooped to begging such an arrogant young man.

"If you’re going to the hospital, be quick about it. I don’t have all day." The old Tristan Grayson would have never wasted another word on the man, yet here he was, surprisingly agreeing to help.

"Okay, thank you! Thank you so much." Joseph Summers thanked him profusely before hurrying back toward the house.

Tristan Grayson shook his head in annoyance, leaned back against the seat, and closed his eyes to rest.

He hadn’t slept a wink all night because Maggie Monroe was in the emergency room. He had just managed to doze off for a moment, only to be woken up by that man...

A few moments later, Tristan Grayson heard sounds outside the car.

He reached out and pressed the button to unlock the doors. But when he looked up and saw the woman holding a child, he froze completely...

’So, it’s *my* child with the fever???’

He quickly turned his head, afraid that Mika Summers would see him and refuse to get in the car.

Mika Summers knew it was Tristan Grayson’s car the moment she saw it. But she had no other choice. Bracing herself and getting in was her only option.

She sat in the back with Kiki and Una Sullivan, while Joseph Summers took the front passenger seat.

The entire way there, no one spoke. The silence was broken only by Kiki’s cries and Una Sullivan’s anxious prompts to drive faster.

The oppressive atmosphere was so heavy Mika Summers could hardly breathe...

As soon as the car arrived at the hospital, Mika Summers got out with the child. Joseph Summers took a hundred dollars from his pocket, gave it to Tristan Grayson, and then got out as well.

Tristan Grayson didn’t even have time to refuse before the whole family had gotten out. He picked up the hundred dollars, the smile on his face growing wider.

’Driving my own wife and son to the hospital, and my father-in-law even pays me for it...’

’I’m probably the only one who gets this kind of treatment...’

He parked the car and went to find Mika Summers and the others.

When he got there, Kiki was having his temperature taken. Mika Summers shot him a cold look, then refused to even glance in his direction again.

A pang of pain shot through his heart, and he turned and left.

Although Mika Summers didn’t look at Tristan Grayson again, her mind wasn’t at ease for a single moment. It wasn’t until after he left that she dared to turn her head to look. But when she saw no sign of him, she felt a pang of disappointment. Then, her lips twisted into a self-mocking smile. ’He was probably just passing by. How could he actually be worried about us...’
