Chapter 358: Chapter 356: Prison Tyrant

"Greetings, Crown Prince."

"Greetings, Grand General."

When City Lord Zhao Bing saw Wen Shixuan, and especially the fierce-looking guards surrounding him, he was scared witless, his heart pounding in his chest.

Even though Zhao Bing’s own cultivation had reached the level of a Martial King, the strongest of Wen Shixuan’s retinue, Grand General Ming Zhe, was an expert at the Martial King Eighth Layer Heaven.

In Guyue City, an expert of that caliber was powerful enough to sweep away all opposition.

Grand General Ming Zhe’s fearsome reputation was renowned even throughout the entire Fire Sparrow Kingdom.

That was why Zhao Bing was so terrified.

Grand General Ming Zhe said nothing.

Wen Shixuan waved his hand. "Relax. I’m merely passing through Guyue City and will be staying for a few days to take care of some matters. There’s no need to be so tense."

He spoke with a tone that permitted no argument.

It was clear that his long-held position of authority had bred in him an air of imperious command.

But Zhao Bing was anything but relaxed; he was scared to death.

He had no idea why Wen Shixuan had suddenly appeared.

He said hastily, "Crown Prince, please, come to my mansion first."

Wen Shixuan did not stand on ceremony.

Led by Zhao Bing, they headed straight for the City Lord’s Mansion.

Once they had taken up residence, an air of extreme tension fell over the entire City Lord’s Mansion.

"May I ask, Crown Prince, is there anything I can help you with?"

Zhao Bing continuously tried to curry favor with Crown Prince Wen Shixuan.

Wen Shixuan noted his efforts but said nothing more. He simply and secretly arranged for his men to begin a search within Guyue City.

After all, the news that Jiang Chen possessed the Black Fire could not be widely known.

Inside a secret chamber in the City Lord’s Mansion.

Wen Shixuan said to Grand General Ming Zhe, "Continue the secret search for that boy. You must find him."

"The Black Fire Spark belongs to me and me alone."

Grand General Ming Zhe nodded.

Then he added, "However, that Black Fire Crow is a real anomaly. We must be on guard against it. That beast is also searching for the Black Fire Spark."

At these words, Wen Shixuan’s expression grew grim.

The Black Fire Crow was, after all, incredibly formidable. Not even the entire Fire Sparrow Kingdom could subdue it.

The Black Fire Crow was a terrifying foe.

"No matter. I doubt it can find the boy."

Wen Shixuan could only hope the Black Fire Crow wouldn’t find Jiang Chen.

That way, he would have no competition.

Meanwhile, Zhao Bing lived in constant fear, walking on eggshells and trying to read Wen Shixuan’s expression every day.

As for Jiang Chen, he had been thrown into the Devil’s Prison.

After Wan Zhenshan left, he took a look around the prison.

His expression suddenly changed.

Inside the prison were several hundred vicious-looking inmates. All of them were Martial Cultivators, and at that moment, they were all getting to their feet to stare at Jiang Chen.

Their apparent leader was a large, dark-faced man covered in scars, his muscles taut and powerful.

He stood up and ran his tongue menacingly over his lips.

His crimson tongue was a terrifying sight.

Every inmate stared at Jiang Chen like a pack of hungry wolves.

After his initial shock, Jiang Chen slowly composed himself, his gaze becoming tranquil.

He scanned the prisoners. The weakest had Warrior Cultivation, while the strongest was actually at the Martial Master Ninth Heaven.

This was the dark-faced, scarred man standing at the forefront.

He appeared to be the leader of the prisoners.

CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP...

One by one, the inmates rose and followed the dark-faced, scarred man, slowly advancing on Jiang Chen.

"Haha, we’ve got a new one."

"Looks like our ranks have swelled again."

Someone let out a laugh—a sound tinged with both misery and menace.

Soon, all the inmates had gathered in front of Jiang Chen.

Their eyes raked over his body.

The scarred man stood at the very front.

Flanked by the other prisoners, he looked like a king in his cell block.

Outside, a few guards from the City Lord’s Mansion sat in a corner, smirking as they watched Jiang Chen’s solitary figure inside the cell.

One of them chuckled. "Looks like we’ve got another show to watch."

"I wonder how Scar is going to mess this new kid up."

Another sneered, "I bet it’ll be Scar’s usual move: make the new guy crawl between his legs to break him in."

They watched the spectacle, certain they could predict what would happen next.

After all, they often watched the inmates fight amongst themselves for entertainment. How else were they to pass the tedious hours?

Jiang Chen stood in the cell with his arms crossed, watching the prisoners before him.

His expression was unnaturally calm; he showed no fear despite being alone and outnumbered.

The several hundred inmates stood before Jiang Chen. After sizing him up, the scarred man—the one with the highest cultivation, an expert at Martial Master Ninth Heaven—bared his teeth in a grin.

"Kid, new guy rules. First, get on your knees and call me ’Brother’."

"Then, crawl between my legs. After that, you’ll be one of us."

Scar’s smile was filled with malicious glee.

Every inmate behind him had been brought under his thumb as a subordinate.

And they had all earned his "approval" in the exact same way.

"Yeah, hurry up and kneel to Brother Scar."

"Only with Brother Scar’s approval can you hope to survive in this Devil’s Prison."

"Hehe, get on with it, new kid. It’s standard procedure."

As they spoke, Scar spread his legs wide, gesturing for Jiang Chen to crawl through.

Jiang Chen remained silent, his gaze cold as he stared at Scar and his cronies. ’So this is the Devil’s Prison,’ he thought, beginning to understand.

He remained utterly unmoved.

His inaction immediately drew the ire of the crowd.

They began to curse at him.

"Kid, you’re asking to die."

"How dare you defy Brother Scar’s orders! I guarantee you won’t live to see the sunrise."

Soon, a few of the enraged prisoners, their faces contorted with fury, charged at Jiang Chen.

Jiang Chen remained perfectly still.

"Die!"

The prisoners were furious that someone would dare to defy their rules.

They rushed to kill Jiang Chen.

Many of them were hoping to make a name for themselves and curry favor with Brother Scar, which would make their lives in the prison easier.

"Heh."

Jiang Chen laughed, filled with disdain. ’My first time in prison, and I’ve already run into a Prison Tyrant.’

As the first man charged, a cold light glinted in his hand.

The Cloud Mist Sword was in his grasp, and he slashed out at the incoming prisoner.

SWOOSH!

The strike was fast, vicious, and true.

It was little more than a flash of light.

SQUELCH!

The inmate at the head of the charge was instantly sliced in two.

BOOM!

The gruesome scene stopped the other charging prisoners in their tracks, and they scrambled backward in terror.

Each of them stared at Jiang Chen, their eyes wide with horror.

The sword in his hand was especially terrifying; it was simply too deadly.

It moved too fast for anyone to even react.

The poor soul at the front had been cut in two.

The crowd stared dumbfounded at Jiang Chen.

No one dared to make another reckless move.

"Cross me, and you die!"

Jiang Chen said coolly, his eyes sweeping over the crowd.

His tone was flat, completely devoid of any emotion or remorse for having just taken a life.

After all, Jiang Chen was all too familiar with the law of the jungle.

If he didn’t kill, he would be killed.

Only by demonstrating overwhelming force and intimidating his opponents could he earn the right to live.

While the others were cowed, Scar’s pupils constricted as he stared intently at Jiang Chen.

Finally, he roared, "Kid, you dare break my rules? You’re asking to die!"
