Chapter 352: Chapter 350: Black Wind Demon
With that, Jiang Chen had completely absorbed the Black Fire.
Just then.
On the ninth floor, the lamp from which Jiang Chen had taken the Black Fire Spark suddenly began to rumble and shake.
As the pitch-black lamp vibrated, the entire Ghost Temple began to tremble.
"RUMBLE..."
Waves of violent tremors pulsed through the air.
Jiang Chen still didn’t understand what was happening.
He looked in astonishment at the lamp from which he had just taken the Black Fire Spark.
Now that the lamp was without its spark, a terrifying black wind erupted from within.
It swept across the ninth floor, and in an instant, Jiang Chen was blown away.
"This is bad!"
He barely had time to cry out before he found his body was no longer under his control. He was about to be blown away by the black wind—no, the wind seemed bent on tearing him apart.
Even with his Cultivation at the Martial Master Fifth Heaven, he was utterly powerless before the black wind.
Even Wen Shixuan, the Flame Dragon, and the Black Fire Crow didn’t have time to react.
The black wind blasted down to the eighth floor, sending Wen Shixuan, the Flame Dragon, and the Black Fire Crow flying. No one could resist its power.
"Damn it, what is this thing?"
The Black Fire Crow roared, but it still couldn’t withstand the black wind. Its body was lifted uncontrollably into the air.
"VMMMM..."
The entire hall shook violently. A moment later, a fissure suddenly split open on the eighth floor.
The fissure was massive. The black wind swept up the Flame Dragon and the others, carrying them directly outside.
Jiang Chen was, of course, being blown away as well.
But, just then.
"Hmph!"
A cold snort echoed.
"Black Wind Demon, trying to stir up trouble again?"
It was the old man from the seventh floor, Fang Yinzi.
He abruptly appeared on the ninth floor.
He suddenly began loudly chanting a Spell:
"An empty fate,"
"A sighing wind."
"Pity the people of a hundred desolate realms."
"The Ghost Temple is where the gods return!"
As the Spell was chanted, Jiang Chen, who had been ensnared by the black wind, suddenly felt the force on his body release.
THUD!
He fell without warning onto the ninth floor.
He looked over and saw Fang Yinzi, his expression extremely grave, chanting the Spell without pause.
Though he was still unclear on the details, Jiang Chen instantly deduced that a powerful Demon was sealed inside the lamp from which he had taken the Black Fire.
Previously, the Black Fire Spark was the power sealing the Demon. Now that he had absorbed the Black Fire, the Demon was trying to break free.
He knew his guess was almost certainly correct.
Sure enough, a furious roar echoed from within the Ghost Temple.
"Let me out! Let me out...!"
A series of howls immediately erupted from within the lamp.
The demonic energy throughout the Ghost Temple surged.
A vast wave of demonic energy rushed out, its power astonishing.
But Fang Yinzi remained stone-faced. As he continued chanting the Spell, his hands moved in a blur, flicking out one seal after another to land on the black lamp.
After a struggle that lasted several hours, Fang Yinzi finally stopped, his face pale.
The sounds from within the black lamp had ceased.
Jiang Chen was stunned. He was realizing for the first time that the Ghost Temple was far more mysterious and bizarre than he had ever imagined.
His interest in the Ghost Temple grew stronger.
To think that an even more powerful being was sealed here.
Fang Yinzi let out a deep sigh of relief.
Only then did he look at Jiang Chen, his face pale.
"Kid, I never expected you’d actually manage to take the Black Fire Spark."
"Even I was never able to obtain this Black Fire Spark."
As he spoke, Fang Yinzi gave Jiang Chen a very strange look.
In fact, for the past ten thousand years, Fang Yinzi had been trying to get the Black Fire Spark, but had repeatedly failed.
Yet today, he had seen Jiang Chen, a kid with a low Cultivation, take the Black Fire Spark away.
He couldn’t help but be surprised.
Jiang Chen was left speechless. He hadn’t expected that Fang Yinzi had also coveted the Black Fire and failed to obtain it.
He gave a dry laugh. "Senior, this Black Fire is very important to me."
Sensing that Fang Yinzi might want the Black Fire, he grew wary.
Of course, if the old man were to actually make a move, Jiang Chen knew he would be completely helpless.
But Fang Yinzi laughed out loud.
"You’re overthinking it. Since you were the one to get the Black Fire Spark, it means it belongs to you."
"The Black Fire may be powerful, but it’s of little use to me."
He shook his head, not having any designs on the Black Fire.
Even if he did, it would be beneath him to make a move on Jiang Chen.
Besides, Jiang Chen had done him a great favor, one that would allow him to escape the Ghost Temple. He naturally wouldn’t make things difficult for him.
Jiang Chen breathed a sigh of relief. It was a good thing Fang Yinzi didn’t have a strong desire for the Black Fire.
He then recalled the voice from the lamp and asked curiously, "Senior, what is sealed inside this black lamp?"
"It has such astonishing power that even a Martial Emperor Level expert like you seems to have trouble suppressing it."
He was extremely curious, so he asked.
Fang Yinzi, for his part, seemed unusually patient with Jiang Chen.
After a moment of contemplation, he spoke in a grave tone. "This lamp is called the Death Lamp. Sealed within is a demon called the Black Wind Demon."
"The Black Wind Demon constantly seeks to escape the Ghost Temple. I have a premonition that if it ever gets out, it will bring chaos and suffering to the world."
"Over the past ten thousand years, I have fought the Black Wind Demon several times. It is an extremely powerful opponent."
"Thankfully, the seal of the Death Lamp, combined with the second layer of sealing from the Black Fire you took, has kept it from breaking free."
"But now that you’ve taken the Black Fire Spark, you’ve removed one layer of the seal. This has weakened its power, so naturally the Black Wind Demon would try to break through."
He paused here for a moment.
Looking at Jiang Chen.
He then said with a strange expression, "Jiang Chen, since you’re the one who took the Black Fire Spark, if this Black Wind Demon ever gets out, it will be because of you."
"When you eventually control the Ghost Temple, you will be the one responsible for keeping the Black Wind Demon sealed."
"All things follow the cycle of cause and effect. Its escape would be your doing. If it wreaks havoc and harms the innocent, it will be up to you to personally subdue it."
Jiang Chen shuddered.
He never thought that obtaining the Black Fire Spark would saddle him with such karmic responsibility.
It was completely unexpected.
’To think that the Black Wind Demon’s Cultivation is so high that even a Martial Emperor Level expert like Fang Yinzi can only barely keep it sealed... I’m no match for it at all.’
"Senior, what exactly is this Black Wind Demon?"
"And what is this Death Lamp?"
Jiang Chen asked curiously.
However, Fang Yinzi could only shake his head.
"I cannot answer those questions for you. You will have to find the answers yourself."
"Alright. The Black Wind Demon won’t be getting out for the time being, so you still have some time to handle your own affairs."
"Once I help you refine the Ghost Heart, you’ll have to return to the Ghost Temple and begin your long struggle with this monster."
Clearly, Fang Yinzi didn’t know the full story either.
Then, he brought up the matter of the Ghost Temple again.
Jiang Chen had already bonded with the Ghost Heart; he was destined to become the master of the Ghost Temple.
This news made Jiang Chen’s expression turn even more grim.
