Chapter 334: Chapter 332: The Bet
As Jiang Chen tossed in the Corpse Heart Insect, a sudden change rippled through the vast, ocean-like Blood Vine World before them.
RUMBLE...
The entire ground trembled.
Immediately after, the Blood Vines before Jiang Chen and Flame Dragon began to tremble.
SWOOSH!
A Blood Vine suddenly shot out from the ground.
It lunged for the Corpse Heart Insect.
At the same time, throughout the green world of Blood Vines, countless vines stirred abruptly. Like beasts catching the scent of blood, they surged from all directions.
The endless Blood Vines writhed like a frenzy of demons.
They lunged at the Corpse Heart Insect.
Such a tiny Corpse Heart Insect had provoked so many Blood Vines.
The Blood Vines continuously coiled and uncoiled.
The sight was enough to make one’s skin crawl.
CREAK... SQUEAL...
As the Blood Vines intertwined, they emitted a grating, ear-piercing screech that set one’s teeth on edge.
SWISH!
The fastest of the Blood Vines instantly caught up to the Corpse Heart Insect.
The whip-like vine immediately ensnared the Corpse Heart Insect.
It enveloped the Corpse Heart Insect.
Immediately, other vines swarmed in to join them.
They completely engulfed the fist-sized Corpse Heart Insect.
After a short while, the Blood Vines slowly receded.
Some sank back into the ground, while others rose into the air.
Some lay across the ground.
The Corpse Heart Insect was nowhere to be seen, having been sucked dry by the vines until not even a trace remained.
Flame Dragon sucked in a sharp breath.
"They really are Cannibal Vines."
"Jiang Chen, I didn’t expect you to be so knowledgeable. I’m impressed, truly impressed."
He was truly starting to admire Jiang Chen.
These were, without a doubt, Cannibal Vines.
Afterward, Flame Dragon frowned.
Obviously, each level of the Ghost Temple was more dangerous than the last.
The Blood Vines on the fifth level were even more formidable than the Puppets on the fourth.
To clear the fifth level, they had to traverse this web-like Blood Vine World.
The dangers involved made even Flame Dragon frown.
Jiang Chen stood there, his eyes flickering as he mulled over a strategy.
These Blood Vines pounce on any living creature they encounter. Even someone with a high Cultivation could be ensnared by the endless vines, drained of their blood, and have their flesh devoured until nothing was left.
’If I try to brute-force my way through, I’ll never make it.’
While he was silent, Flame Dragon suddenly stepped forward.
He took out a Jade Talisman—the very key he had used to open the Ghost Temple, the one engraved with the character for "Ghost."
"I’ll try this key and see if I can get through."
Flame Dragon held the Jade Talisman, channeling his Cultivation Power into it. The talisman erupted with a dark light.
He slowly moved forward.
Step by step, he approached the Blood Vines.
*Thud.*
The moment Flame Dragon’s foot touched the ground covered by the Blood Vines...
WHOOSH!
In an instant, countless vines shot toward Flame Dragon from the ground, from beneath it, and from the air.
They looked as if they were about to suck him dry.
But Flame Dragon was still trying to use the Jade Talisman to get through.
WHAP!
But to his horror, these Blood Vines completely ignored the light from the Jade Talisman and instantly appeared beside him.
With incredible speed, they coiled around his legs.
From behind, countless more Blood Vines surged forward, threatening to surround him.
Flame Dragon’s face turned pale with shock.
The moment the Blood Vines touched him, their sharp thorns began to bore relentlessly into his body, piercing his skin in an instant.
The Blood Vines looked soft, but they were incredibly tough, almost as durable as Magical Treasures.
In an instant, several bloody holes appeared on Flame Dragon’s legs, and fresh blood began to flow.
This only served to further incite the Blood Vines’ ferocity.
HSSSSSS...
Countless Blood Vines swarmed toward him in a frenzy.
At this critical moment, Flame Dragon knew he had to get clear of the Blood Vines. He roared, "Get off me!"
He unleashed his Cultivation Power, blasting the vines wrapped around him.
RUMBLE...
Those Blood Vines were blasted apart by his Cultivation Power.
Flame Dragon hastily flew up and out of the Blood Vines’ reach.
SZZZZ...
The severed pieces of the Blood Vines began to regrow rapidly the moment they hit the ground. Realizing their prey had escaped, they began to make all sorts of strange, skin-crawling noises.
They writhed menacingly, a terrifying sight to behold.
"Damn it. I can’t believe I was injured in an instant."
Having escaped, Flame Dragon looked down at the wounds on his legs.
His expression was grim.
He was, after all, an expert nearing the Martial Emperor Cultivation realm. With his Dragon Race bloodline, his defenses were considered terrifyingly strong.
But even he couldn’t withstand these Blood Vines.
This just went to show how formidable the Blood Vines were.
Jiang Chen looked on, dumbfounded.
"You’re injured."
His words, though plainly stated, almost made Flame Dragon fly into a rage.
As the noble Flame Dragon, losing face in front of Jiang Chen was an utter humiliation.
He retorted irritably, "Why don’t you give it a try? Let’s see how you plan to get past these Cannibal Vines."
He had personally experienced the power of the Blood Vines and was now goading Jiang Chen into trying for himself.
He just wanted to win back his pride and dignity.
Jiang Chen smiled. "Why not? But first, I want to make a bet with you."
Suddenly, a brilliant idea struck him.
He had a marvelous plan.
’This Flame Dragon is an incredibly powerful expert.’
’I already know he’s on the verge of becoming a Martial Emperor Expert.’
’A Martial Emperor is one of the top experts in the entire Fire Sparrow Kingdom. There are very few who can even match Flame Dragon’s level.’
’Even the Sovereign of the Fire Sparrow Kingdom doesn’t have a Cultivation as high as his.’
And so, a plan formed in his mind.
Flame Dragon was stunned for a moment, looking at Jiang Chen with some surprise.
"A bet? Interesting."
"Go on."
Jiang Chen’s bet had piqued his interest.
Jiang Chen nodded, smiling. "It’s simple. If I get through these Blood Vines safely, you’ll be my underling from now on."
"If I can’t, I’ll call you Big Brother."
"What do you think?"
That’s right, Jiang Chen’s goal was to make this Flame Dragon his subordinate.
Subduing an expert of this caliber would naturally be a great help.
What’s more, this Flame Dragon was the king of Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain and had the potential to unite the entire mountain.
If he could subdue Flame Dragon, Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain would be his to command.
This was Jiang Chen’s true goal.
Flame Dragon was stunned again.
He gave Jiang Chen a meaningful look, his fiery red eyes narrowing slightly.
He appeared to be deep in thought.
Jiang Chen’s wager had really caught him off guard.
If he lost, he would have to call Jiang Chen his boss.
It was simply an insult to his status.
But if he didn’t agree, he would be looked down upon by Jiang Chen.
He couldn’t possibly back down.
Flame Dragon pondered for a moment.
Suddenly, he boomed, "Fine, I’ll take that bet."
"I’m going to make an underling out of you today!"
Jiang Chen waved his hand dismissively. "Don’t be so certain. We don’t know who will be whose underling just yet."
"Since you’ve agreed, you can’t go back on your word."
He smiled, the grin of someone whose scheme was falling into place.
’The thought of subduing Flame Dragon was thrilling.’
’This underling is as good as mine.’
Flame Dragon puffed out his chest and declared, "Hmph! I will absolutely not go back on my word."
"And besides, I’m certain I won’t lose."
He didn’t believe that Jiang Chen could pass through the Blood Vine World.
Even with his level of Cultivation, this place was dangerous.
Each of them was lost in their own schemes.
Jiang Chen said lightly, "Then watch closely. See how I get through the Blood Vines."
He was brimming with confidence.
