Chapter 321: Chapter 319: Suffer Death
Both the Flame Dragon and Wen Shixuan were incredibly powerful, making them the strongest factions vying for the Black Fire.
"Very good. I hope you people from the Fire Sparrow Kingdom can last until the very end."
As he spoke, the Flame Dragon made no move to force the people of the Fire Sparrow Kingdom to retreat.
He didn’t fear the Fire Sparrow Kingdom, but he had yet to gain control over all the Demon Beasts of Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain. Fighting them now would be pointless.
Most importantly, he was utterly confident in his own abilities.
Then, the Flame Dragon’s fiery red eyes swiveled to glare at the other factions.
A few scattered factions were standing on the third level.
The third level was completely empty. There was nothing here.
"You want to compete with me for the Black Fire?"
he asked, his voice cold and arrogant as he challenged the other factions.
There were at least seven or eight other factions present.
Faced with the Flame Dragon’s pressure, their expressions changed drastically.
Several factions hastily waved their hands in dismissal and began to retreat.
"Your Excellency, Flame Dragon, we just came to take a look. We have no intention of coveting the Black Fire."
However, a few factions were unwilling to give up.
"The Black Fire belongs to no one. It will go to whoever is fated to have it."
The speaker was an Alchemist in a white robe.
More than ten Martial Cultivators stood by his side.
One of them was a man with a single eye.
It was the Blood Light Mercenary Corps and Lord Wangu from the Alchemy Master Guild of Guyue City.
"Heh heh. Not bad. Humans truly are audacious, daring to compete with me for the Black Fire."
"But I won’t make things difficult for you."
After speaking, the Flame Dragon glanced at the ancient characters carved on the hall’s walls. Unable to recognize them, he immediately led his large contingent of Demon Beasts deeper into the third level.
They had encountered quite a bit of trouble going from the first level to the second.
Only this third level seemed to be completely devoid of danger.
And there were no discoveries to be made, either.
They headed straight for the fourth level.
All that remained were the human Martial Cultivator factions.
Wen Shixuan showed no intention of leaving just yet.
He scanned his surroundings, his gaze landing on Lord Wangu.
He suddenly spoke. "Lord Wangu, you’re from the Alchemy Master Guild of Guyue City. You should know who I am."
"If you obtain the Black Fire, hand it over to me. I will reward you handsomely."
Lord Wangu’s expression turned grim.
But he didn’t agree.
Seeing this, Wen Shixuan snorted.
He then looked at the ancient characters on the surrounding walls and asked, "Does anyone recognize these characters?"
"If anyone can translate these ancient characters for me, I, Wen Shixuan, can grant them the position of a Second-Grade Official in the Fire Sparrow Kingdom."
After entering the Divine Hall, they had discovered that mystery lurked everywhere.
These characters, in particular, looked ancient.
Wen Shixuan suspected they were a Cultivation Technique or some kind of Secret Technique.
But he couldn’t read them, and neither could anyone with him.
So he tried to get the others to solve the puzzle for him.
"I don’t recognize them."
Everyone shook their heads.
Even Jiang Chen shook his head.
He recognized them, of course, but there was no way he would say so.
Wen Shixuan had enslaved them before and nearly gotten them killed.
’Of course,’ he thought, ’if it weren’t for Wen Shixuan, I wouldn’t have been able to enter the Ghost Temple in the first place.’
After studying the ancient characters for a while and realizing he truly couldn’t make sense of them, Wen Shixuan shook his head and led his men toward the fourth level.
With Wen Shixuan and the Flame Dragon gone, the other factions remaining on the floor also left one after another, heading straight for the fourth level.
However, Jiang Chen and his companions felt a surge of killing intent.
They all looked over to see a group of men who had locked onto them, their bodies radiating killing intent.
It was as if they shared some deep-seated hatred.
"Gasp..."
"The Blood Light Mercenary Corps."
Jiang Chen didn’t understand, but Zhan Yang instantly sucked in a sharp breath.
He stared in horror at the men radiating killing intent.
He had recognized them immediately.
and blurted out their name.
At the same time, Zhan Yang remembered the two members of the Blood Light Mercenary Corps they had killed—the Meng brothers.
Now, seeing the Blood Light Mercenary Corps, he instinctively knew this was bad.
JinLing, Niu Tuo, and Lu Beifeng quickly gathered together, clearly afraid of the newcomers.
Meanwhile, the members of the Blood Light Mercenary Corps stared daggers at Jiang Chen’s group of five.
One of them spoke up. "Boss, are they the ones who killed the Meng brothers?"
One-Eyed Wolf nodded, his gaze fixed intently on Jiang Chen’s group.
"That’s them."
In that instant, the members of the Blood Light Mercenary Corps bristled with killing intent, glaring viciously at Jiang Chen’s group.
Lord Wangu, however, frowned. "What’s going on?"
"Can we finish my business first?"
He still hadn’t given up on the Black Fire.
One-Eyed Wolf hurriedly explained to Lord Wangu, "Young Master Wan, these are the people who killed our Blood Light Mercenary Corps members."
"We just happened to run into them today. I’ll deal with them; it won’t delay your business."
Lord Wangu waved his hand dismissively. "Fine. They’re just a few newbies. Be quick about it. Five minutes should be more than enough."
He shot a disdainful glance in their direction.
He paid them no mind whatsoever.
Even though Jiang Chen’s group had made it to the third level, plenty of others had as well.
It wasn’t anything special.
One-Eyed Wolf nodded and spun to face Jiang Chen’s group.
In that instant, Zhan Yang and the others trembled, a palpable fear of One-Eyed Wolf washing over them.
Zhan Yang tried to explain, "Captain, we have no grievance with you. We’re mercenaries too."
One-Eyed Wolf sneered.
"Anyone who kills a member of the Blood Light Mercenary Corps must be prepared to die."
"Now, die!"
As he spoke, One-Eyed Wolf turned to his men, whose eyes were already red with fury. "Wipe them out."
Zhan Yang quickly interjected, "Wait! Captain, since we’re all mercenaries here, please, spare us."
"Killing your men was a misunderstanding! We had no choice—it was self-defense!"
"If there’s a way to compensate you, we’ll do it!"
One-Eyed Wolf asked coldly, "Which Mercenary Team are you from?"
He wanted to kill them, but he had to consider if they were backed by a powerful Mercenary Team.
If they were members of a powerful team, he wouldn’t dare to act rashly.
"We’re from the Warring States Mercenary Corps."
Zhan Yang didn’t lie; he told him the name of their Mercenary Team.
"Hahaha! How laughable! The Warring States Mercenary Corps? A measly Two-Star Mercenary Corps."
"In that case, you can all go die."
Hearing Zhan Yang’s answer, One-Eyed Wolf burst out laughing. The Warring States Mercenary Corps... just a Two-Star Mercenary Corps. He’d heard of them.
His Blood Light Mercenary Corps, on the other hand, was a Three-Star Mercenary Corps. They weren’t even in the same league.
A vicious glint flashed in his eyes.
The members of the Blood Light Mercenary Corps all roared.
"You’re courting death! A mere Two-Star Mercenary Corps dares to kill members of the Blood Light Mercenary Corps?"
"Die!"
The dozen or so members of the Blood Light Mercenary Corps immediately charged at them.
The color drained from the faces of Zhan Yang and the others.
Niu Tuo and Lu Beifeng immediately moved to the front, ready to face the enemy.
But they all knew they were no match for the Blood Light Mercenary Corps.
