Chapter 2499: Chapter 2500: The Trial

Veronia looked at Feng Yuan curiously and said,

"You really have no interest in Agunas’s actions?"

"Hmm, are you referring to the temple trial? That thing isn’t suited for me to participate in, after all, it’s a test the world gives to Beastmasters. The underlying reason, I suspect, is to see if they can truly harness that power."

"Harness?"

Upon hearing Feng Yuan’s answer, Veronia examined him with surprise. She wasn’t aware of this perspective on the trial. Rolling her eyes, Feng Yuan said irritably,

"What else? Since the Crystal Domain, Beastmasters’ power has been rapidly expanding. The destructiveness they can cause has probably increased several-fold compared to before, particularly among the more powerful Beastmasters."

"Under such circumstances, the temple is both a means to protect the Main World and potentially the last straw to break the camel’s back. This further expansion of power might lead Beastmasters to become slaves to their powers, lost within its grasp."

"So that’s why the Little Crocodile is so cautious?"

Veronia spoke with a hint of surprise, never having considered this before. Feng Yuan chuckled and said,

"Rather than caution, it’s more like exploiting loopholes. Do you know why It only informed me? It’s actually prompting me to make a choice. If nothing was said or done, the temple should have been discovered and its trial undertaken by ordinary Beastmasters."

"I’ve chosen a different path. Compared to civil war, I don’t want to witness more people disappearing due to defenseless ambushes."

"I see, so you’ve already planned to quell the chaos?"

"No, I trust you won’t let the internal conflict escalate. As for the current sacrifice... from my perspective, it should be better than waiting for that elusive possibility."

Closing his eyes slowly, Feng Yuan spoke softly.

At the temple entrance, as the group entered the temple’s range, the surrounding scenery shifted abruptly. Blue skies and white clouds transformed into boundless auroras and a resplendent starry sky, with the temple standing solitary like an ancient deity in this bizarre space.

"All the rules are twisted?"

Old Wei raised his hand and lightly gripped, murmuring in surprise. Gladys tapped her chin gently with the card in her hand, saying,

"Be careful, there’s a multitude of unknown restrictions here, like..."

The card in her hand flew out, and a Fire Dragon emerged from the card, ready to display its might, only to be instantly obliterated by an invisible force.

"All concepts related to fire are nullified."

Looking at Lanadi beside her, Gladys spoke plainly, although she didn’t understand the significance of this restriction. After all, purely fire attribute Spirit Beasts are numerous, and being unable to battle wouldn’t greatly affect them.

"Can’t use fire attribute ultimate move?"

Lanadi furrowed his brow slightly, and the others felt a bit troubled. This restriction wasn’t too significant for them, but it was merely one of the restrictions Gladys had found.

They hadn’t forgotten that Gladys had used the word ’numerous’ when mentioning unknown restrictions.

"It’s not the fire attribute ultimate move but involves the concept of fire. If it isn’t to weaken our combat power, there’s likely another reason. Perhaps, we need to figure out how to circumvent this restriction."

Gladys’s gaze remained fixed on Old Wei. The other did not turn around, but he was already aware that Gladys was watching him. Even so, he had no intention of speaking.

Seeing Old Wei remain silent, Gladys sighed and said,

"I’ll try my best to find a way; in battle, I can only assist as much as possible."

She lacked the ability to multitask, so for now, Gladys could only act as a bystander. Of course, the others didn’t count on Gladys’s combat power, so the impact was minimal.

"The fire concept? Is this the first trial?"

Lanadi squinted, and Old Wei coughed lightly and said,

"If the analysis is complete, how about trying actual combat?"

The others glanced at Gladys, and seeing her nod, they began adjusting their positions. Although Gladys hadn’t determined there would be a battle, since Old Wei spoke of it, perhaps he had already sensed something.

Walking along the starlit path towards the temple, the group cautiously monitored their surroundings. Gladys and Anna constantly scrutinized the environment, trying to uncover any clue.

Outside, Agunas and the others faced the encircling red barrier of the temple with grim expressions. As the temple trial activated, they suddenly realized some of the restrictions were in place.

Those participating in the trial for the first time can only partake again if they die; otherwise, even if they fail the challenge, only they can re-engage. Only upon death does the corresponding slot open, and the initial uncertain number of slots solidifies based on the total count of initial participants.

Of course, the uncertainty has both a lower and upper limit, ranging no less than twenty and no more than one hundred twenty people. This restriction, to Agunas and the others, seemed trivial.

Because, according to information, the trial adjusts difficulty based on the comprehensive strength of Beastmasters, which is precisely why Agunas and the others were troubled.

Participants in this trial were carefully selected by them, possessing substantial strength, which suggests a high level of challenge difficulty.

However, after the initial panic, Agunas and the others realized that comprehensive strength includes experience and more.

This means that if someone’s apparent ability isn’t formidable but possesses extraordinary strength in a certain area, the difficulty level they introduce will shift towards being more arduous.

Besides Feng Yuan, Agunas and the others couldn’t think of anyone capable of deceiving those examining the trial. However, due to Old Wei’s existence, Agunas and the others couldn’t predict how outrageous the trial might become.

The team moved slowly forward, surrounded by auroras that shone brightly, creating a surreal yet daunting spectacle. Old Wei snorted coldly, waving his right hand as shadows of darkness spread out from beneath him towards the distance.

Watching the familiar yet strange individuals consumed by darkness, Old Wei was momentarily stunned and soon smirked coldly. The concept of fire even included that aspect?

The others only saw Old Wei decisively extinguish the human-like figure ahead, not noticing Old Wei’s oddity.

"Why do I feel something isn’t right?"

Gladys looked at Anna, puzzled by the sudden chill she felt without knowing what had occurred. Was it Old Wei’s ruthlessness?

That was unlikely; in her view, Old Wei’s approach was straightforward yet effective. Being here could only mean they were foes they had no choice but to believe so.

Soon, intense light began to sting their eyes, causing everyone except Old Wei to reflexively close their eyes. The muffled groans and sounds of intense battle from Old Wei echoed briefly before vanishing. Gladys tried to open her eyes amidst the blinding light but failed.

Finally, as the light gradually dimmed, she opened her tear-filled eyes, surveying her surroundings.

As expected, they were separated by an unknown force. In front, a familiar figure appeared, leaving Gladys momentarily stunned. Gritting her teeth, Gladys commanded Anna.

"Forward, Curse of Death!"

An invisible curse power spread, causing the silhouette identical to Yan Lvxin to instantly collapse. Suppressing her inner sorrow, Gladys gazed at the path ahead and said,

"Let’s go!"

Ignoring the familiar figure fallen on the ground, Old Wei calmly moved forward with unwavering steps. The path seemed endless, with no change in surroundings except for the perpetually appearing familiar figures as if deliberately driving the challengers insane.

Shadows continued to spread relentlessly, exterminating those familiar individuals with determination. Old Wei’s expression remained unchanged, his gaze fixed straight ahead, completely uninfluenced.

"This trial... isn’t something they can handle. Is it because of my strength?"

Muttering to himself made no difference to Old Wei’s actions or the unchanging scenery. Every step seemed like a repetition from before, and Old Wei and the repetitive corridor remained locked in a stalemate, unwilling to concede first.

"Being well-versed can sometimes be detrimental; a calm mind—it was once a source of pride but now the greatest trouble."

Suddenly, Old Wei laughed self-mockingly, pausing for a second before repeating his previous actions. He had already figured out how to pass this trial; the information Gladys provided was crucial. Yet, for now, he couldn’t accomplish it.

Hopefully, those individuals can hold on a bit longer. This thing can indeed aid teammates, provided they’ve already passed the trial.

Drawing upon his extensive experience, Old Wei had discerned much, but unfortunately, he didn’t know how long it would take him to overcome this known-condition obstacle.
