He did this for two reasons. First, although he had dealt with all the Tier Three Martial Spirits, the battle wasn’t truly over, making it a terrible time to attempt a breakthrough.

Second, a breakthrough in the middle of a battle would be too strange and difficult to explain. After all, one normally breaks through by refining Primordial Spirit Liquid.
