Chapter 796: Chapter 406: Let Me Cast a Spell for You (First Update)
Francis Johnson laughed, touched his nose and said, "...Professor Lu’s achievements in computing can’t compare to his high-energy physics. But even if they’re a bit inferior, they’re beyond our reach. He only competes with himself."
"Yeah, as his daughter, I didn’t inherit much of his genius," Lydia Graham said with a sigh.
"So your talent in law, did you inherit it from your mother?" Francis Johnson casually asked.
Lydia Graham uncharacteristically fell silent for a moment before saying, "Yes, I did."
Francis Johnson sensitively noticed Lydia Graham’s mood drop and regretted bringing up a sore subject.
Lydia always talked about her father, but never about her mother. It was said that her mother passed away when she was very young.
Even though her life is happy now, with success in both career and family, losing a mother at a young age must be a heavy burden for her to bear.
Francis Johnson carefully changed the topic, smiling as he said, "By the way, Professor Lu’s new apprentice is Kenneth’s new wife. She’s been having some trouble lately. But with our protection, she’s out of danger now."
Lydia snapped out of her thoughts and quickly adjusted her mood. She opened her car door, smiling, "It’s Lawrence Winters, right? This girl is something of a marvel. I’m not sure if I’m breaching any confidentiality, but your security clearance should cover it."
"What’s up? Is it about Lawrence Winters?" Francis Johnson was stunned.
Lydia Graham nodded, "Yes, I saw Christopher with a file on her that thick the other day."
Lydia made a gesture, "What kind of person warrants such attention from Christopher?"
Francis Johnson: "..."
"...Probably has something to do with the Celestial Path Sect dispute," Francis Johnson recalled the recent dangers faced by the Winters family and whispered, "Some members of the overseas Celestial Path Sect are trying to stir up trouble, but we won’t let them succeed. However, it’s inconvenient for us to intervene directly, so... we have to let the fortress be breached from the inside."
Lydia hadn’t expected Francis to know more than she did, laughed, sat in her car, and started the engine, saying, "Now I get it, you want to make Lawrence Winters a ’Trojan Horse,’ right?"
"She was already inside, we’re just hoping she’ll become our ’Trojan Horse,’" Francis Johnson winked at Lydia.
Lydia understood, closed the car door, "Alright, I have to go home now. Christopher just texted me, saying he took Asher to Mrs. Song’s place. Mr. Lu wants to make zongzi for Asher."
Lydia swallowed, "I really want to eat those zongzi too, I better head over soon."
Francis Johnson was amused, watching Lydia drive away in her little red Ferrari.
...
After Francis Johnson and Lydia Graham left, Kenneth Osborne sat alone in his office and reviewed the materials Spring Spencer had sent him from start to finish.
It was a purely English legal document, filled with detailed, tedious content, and many specialized computer terms.
Kenneth Osborne’s English skills were adequate for computers, but he was not familiar with legal terminology. He relied on a smartphone’s smart translation system to finish reading the entire document.
He spent the whole night in the office. It was only when dawn broke the next day that he finished reading all the materials.
Upon completion, he felt a sense of calm return to his heart.
He was well aware that the assistance from Francis Johnson and Lydia Graham was a favor. He couldn’t take their help for granted or rely solely on them.
To truly turn the situation around, he knew it depended on him.
After reviewing all the materials, he felt a strong impulse, wanting to see the full scope of the artificial intelligence software from over thirty years ago.
Why was there a segment of programming language identical to that of thirty years later?
In this case, "identical" referred not only to the specific instructions but also to the effects achieved through those instructions.
He hadn’t gone home all night, thinking that Lawrence Winters might be worried about him.
When he checked his phone, he found that Lawrence hadn’t sent him a single call or message.
Kenneth Osborne pursed his lips, put away his phone and backpack, and planned to go home for some sleep.
When he drove back to the flat, he found no one there.
It seemed they had all gone to the hospital.
After a moment’s thought, Kenneth decided to give Lawrence Winters a call.
It was early Sunday morning, the sun wasn’t up yet, with only a slight glow in the east.
Lawrence was in the hospital room, keeping vigil over the old Daoist.
Even though Gabrielle Winters and Nick Zeller had asked him to go home, assuring him they would stay, Lawrence wouldn’t leave.
