Chapter 751: Chapter 387: There Are No Coincidences Between Foes

The little pet dog saw its owner and immediately wagged its tail joyfully, even letting out happy barks.

Ruby Sheldon lowered her eyes to look at the Pekingese in a burgundy flared dress, her face alternating between red and white. She clasped her hands on her chest, trembling slightly despite her utmost self-control.

Her heart was bleeding, and only one phrase echoed in her mind: They saw it... they saw it... everyone saw it...

What would they think of her?

All laughing at her? Disdaining her? Scorning her?

Would they think of her as being the same as a dog?!

What originally felt satisfying when it happened to someone else was now like a thousand arrows piercing her heart!

Ruby Sheldon’s eyelashes quivered violently, her eyes gradually reddened, and tears were on the verge of falling.

The buzzing living room suddenly fell silent.

The most dreaded moment is when the air suddenly turns quiet.

The psychological pressure of this is simply endless.

Even Autumn Stetford was taken aback. She glanced at Ruby Sheldon and then at the little Pekingese jumping around at Ruby’s feet, unable to process for a moment.

Mrs. Fu curled her lips slightly, casting a cold glance at Ruby Sheldon and Autumn Stetford.

When the two of them were almost unable to hold on, she broke the stifling atmosphere in the living room, smiling and saying, "Oh dear, Betty, you must really like your little Pekingese, dressing in the same outfit! When I get home, I’ll dress my Shiba Inu in a matching outfit for fun."

Mrs. Sheng closed her feather fan, her eyes lighting up, and said, "That’s a great idea! Our next theme at the Sheng Elegance Society will be Me and My Little Heart-Fashion for Two! Remember, only members with pet dogs can attend!"

She pointed the fan toward the gathering crowd in the living room, laughingly adding, "Those who don’t own a dog yet should hurry and get one; you might still have time!"

Lawrence Winters smiled slightly.

She understood what Mrs. Fu and Mrs. Sheng intended.

After all, it’s Ruby Sheldon’s twenty-first birthday coming-of-age ceremony. Her embarrassment and loss of dignity have already been aired, there’s no need to push her to a breaking point...

So she hurriedly joined in to smooth things over, saying, "I remember Lydia Graham has a very adorable corgi. When I went to her house for dinner, I even saw her little prince dressing that corgi in matching outfits! It was especially cute and charming!"

Upon mentioning Chief Lydia Graham, the ladies and young misses in the living room started seeing Lawrence in a new light.

Lydia Graham is the Chief Legal Adviser of the Upper House of Parliament, and it’s widely spread that she’s a favored candidate for succession by Chancellor Long of the Upper House.

And Lydia Graham’s husband, Christopher Mason, is so high-ranking and powerful that everyone understands in silence and doesn’t even need to mention his name, often just referring to him as "that one person."

Lawrence Winters being able to dine at Lydia Graham’s house already outmatched nearly everyone present.

So this connection, ponder it, savor it!

Ruby Sheldon was on the verge of tears when Mrs. Fu and Mrs. Sheng stepped in to resolve the situation, and she quickly forced her tears back.

It wasn’t until Lawrence Winters mentioned the matching outfits of Lydia Graham’s little corgi and her son that Ruby felt completely at ease.

Ruby Sheldon came to her senses and simply bent down to pick up the still bouncing little Pekingese, saying with a light smile, "You’re such a clever little thing!"

Everyone in the living room saw clearly that the little dress on the Pekingese was originally the same color as Lawrence Winters’ dress, turned red only after Mrs. Fu spilled wine on it...

Now Mrs. Fu, Mrs. Sheng, and Lawrence Winters all pretended nothing happened, smoothing things over for Ruby Sheldon, and no one else would expose the incident.

Everyone was laughing and having a good time.

A few young girls immediately gathered around Lawrence Winters, curiously asking, "Did you really have dinner at Chief Lydia Graham’s place? Are you a family relative of theirs?"

Lawrence Winters, of course, wouldn’t reveal the truth and just vaguely said, "It was by chance that I joined for a meal. How could I possibly be their relative?"

Ruby Sheldon, holding her little Pekingese, also came over at this point, listening from the periphery. She laughed fresh and clear, saying, "Sister Lawrence, you’re too modest. Being able to have dinner at Chief Lydia Graham’s house must mean you have a good relationship with them. People like us would only dine with them at state guesthouses, unable to visit her home."

Lawrence Winters tilted her head with a smile, not responding directly, and simply said, "Miss Ruby, don’t you feel your hands are wet?"

Ruby Sheldon had been focused entirely on Lawrence Winters earlier, holding the little Pekingese just to avoid being mocked. It wasn’t until Lawrence reminded her that she realized her hands indeed felt sticky with something she couldn’t identify.
