Chapter 190: 190:Unfortunate Romance

The special class students were all attractive, this was just a fact. Awakened tended to be very attractive already as their bodies slowly reached towards perfection. But the special class students already had the looks despite not being high rank.

This leads to quite a few problems.

And also some very humorous ones.

Take for example, when someone once tried to flirt with Lin Qingyi. Which occurred quite a few months ago.

---

"Why do you always force me to do this..."

Raymond let out a groan he was sure the whole class could hear. Complaining towards the devil that had dragged him out of a perfectly good eleven hour nap once again.

"Spending too long asleep isn’t good for your body, you need to get up and move around every once in a while."

"Then what about forcing me to eat vegetables?"

"That one is just basic health, you aren’t a child Raymond."

Tch!

He crossed his arms angrily, "You’re not my mom, why are you so concerned about how I live. It’s my life!"

"Because..."

Ellen paused, now that she thought about it. She didn’t really have a reason to correct Raymond’s unhealthy lifestyle. It wasn’t like he could even develop any health issues with his physique and level.

"...it’s fun watching you suffer like this."

"What the hell is wrong with you."

She shook her head, "Well, the main reason is that it’s more interesting when I can drag you around with me everywhere."

She poked him in the cheek, causing his eyes to snap open again and glare at her.

"Besides, shouldn’t you be grateful?"

Leaning in to whisper against his ear, she smiled.

"It’s like you have a beautiful girlfriend who takes care of you..."

Seeing Raymond immediately turn away in an attempt to hide the blush that was forming, she giggled softly.

Whenever her day got boring, she could just tease him a little like this, and his reactions would be enough to fuel her and keep her going for the next few hours. Each time he reacted like this, it only made her want to tease him even more.

Luckily the two of them always sat at the back of their classes. So no one could ever see then unless they purposefully turned back to look, which was easy to spot. Otherwise plenty of rumors would have already spread.

"Can you just focus on the class? Otherwise the devil instructor is gonna get mad again."

"Doing this is more fun though..."

Their teacher’s ears briefly twitched, but nobody noticed it.

Finally as the class ended, and the two of them prepared to leave. A figure quickly rushed by them.

"Oh, it’s Lin this time."

Ellen didn’t even need to think in order to know why she was being approached, all of them had experienced this before after all. Some more then others. It was always a good source of entertainment as well. With the sole exception of the one involved.

Approaching Lin Qingyi, who was still packing up her belongings to head to the next class. He quietly coughed in order to get her attention.

"U-uhm...excuse me!"

Both Raymond and Ellen briefly lanced at each other. The same thought in their heads, before turning back to observe.

Already off to a bad start with the stuttering.

But it was his next line that truly made this moment legendary.

"A-are you from Wulin?"

"...yes I am?"

He took a deep breath, his posture straightening as he finally found the confidence to say what he had in his mind.

"No wonder. Because, woo! Lin you are amazing!"

"..."

Raymond and Ellen both slowly turned their heads to each other once again. Their mouths morphing into quite possibly, one of the biggest smiles that they would ever experience in their lives on both of their faces as they just processed the absolute godsend they had just heard.

Even his wildest dreams couldn’t have prepared him for that, he could already feel his facial muscles strain in an attempt to hold back the laughter.

It got so bad, Raymond had to cast a spell around the two of them to block out any noise they produced. As well as hide what they were doing. Allowing the two of them to freely laugh in peace.

"Hahahahaha!"

"Hehehehe!"

Ellen clutched her stomach as she keeled over, the pain of it almost brought tears to her eyes. While Raymond had to physically start slamming his fist on the table to release the excess tension.

---

"Woo! Lin..."

"Please stop."

Lin Qingyi had an embarrassed look on her face, quietly pleading with the two of them to stop.

It was too late, once it was brought up. The rest of them immediately jumped in like hounds on a piece of meat.

"Are you from Wulin?"

"Please stop."

Sharing a laugh together at one’s expense was always a good experience.

The only ones not laughing were of course Thomas and Audrina, because they were dense like bricks but otherwise. It was easily the best thing to have ever happened to them.

Lin Qingyi clenched her fists as her face turned red.

The worst part was that she actually understood what he was saying. Her admirer had spoken clearly and slowly enough, while using basic words for her to be able to understand.

Faced with the group’s constant reminder of that shameful event. She stood up and pointed a finger at Arthur, who was laughing the hardest.

"Let’s spar. Now."

"I wasn’t even the one that started it! Why aren’t you going after Raymond?!"

She let out a tsk, as if it was common sense.

"Because I can’t defeat him."

"Why go after me then?! Zachary is right there!"

Raymond stuck a tongue out at him, a bad habit he had learned from Ellen. To which he got a finger in response.

Arthur was right though, the moment the word spar was mentioned. Zachary’s eyes lit up like fireworks. Even though he was already stronger then her, he still loved to spar with them whenever possible.

Seeing that Arthur wasn’t going to spar with her however, she reluctantly turned to Zachary instead.

"!!!"

"...let’s just go already."

No words were even needed here.

After another half hour of just chatting. The bell rang, signifying the end of their lunch break. Causing each of them to let out a sigh as they now had to return to their classes.

With four hundred students in the year, they had to be split up so each class wouldn’t be overwhelmed with hundreds of people. So for now, only Raymond and Ellen shared the same class.

You might be wondering why they seemingly shared the same classes in the first year, to that. Raymond didn’t know why, just blame it on bad academy management. As well as not thinking of the consequences of having 2000 students at any given time. With 400 per year, each further separated into 100 per class. There was way too many students to cram them all into one class each time.

Raymond smiled, putting his hands on the back of his head as he walked.

"I really don’t get it. We’re all still so young. What’s with the obsession with dating?"

"I guess, to experience that teenage love?"

The both of them might have looked like teenagers, but they were both much older and much more mature (debatable) then the rest of their peers. So they could see through these things much more clearly after all. They had long outgrown that particular phase of their lives.

Not that they got to enjoy it much anyways, Ellen’s previous life was disrupted by the third Human-Demon War. While Raymond...well he was only thirteen when his mother and William died.

"Heh, reminds me back when I was Sachs. Loads of our classmates used to ask me out back then."

"...you’re so weird."

Hook.

His head snapped towards her, "I rejected them all! Who do you think I am? Some kind of creep?!"

"I mean you did stalk us for decades."

"Only during important moments I swear! Not every single day!"

"...sure."

Line.

He turned away, grumbling to himself.

"All of your daily lives were so boring anyways...if anything, I had to change a few things just to make it more interesting."

"Like what?"

Sinker.

For the past few years that Ellen had been living with Raymond, one burning question had always remained within her. Yet to be satisfied to this day.

What was Raymond’s novel like?

She heard a few snippets and tidbits about it, but Raymond had always skirted around the topic whenever directly asked about it. So for Ellen, she had to come up with a way for Raymond to say it himself without directly asking about it in an obvious manner.

So she waited patiently, for another time when Raymond would bring up his past as Nutte Sachs. When he would bring up his novel again. Practicing conversations inside her head for when the day finally came.

"Stuff like classes, a few of the missions, personal lives, romance..."

"Romance? Zachary never got into any relationships ever though?"

"..."

"..."

The two of them turned to each other. A look of resignation on his face as he realized he had just been caught, and a look of amusement on hers as she quietly stared back at him.

She knew that Zachary was the main protagonist, and she was fine with that. He had all the traits of a classic protagonist. That also meant a complete disinterest in any romance whatsoever. Which meant Zachary had never, never gotten into any relationships or even had anyone that he fancied. Let alone dated.

She asked him again, stressing every single vowel. "Raymond. What romance are you talking about?"

"..."

Raymond put his hands down from his head, quietly putting one behind his back. A sign that she recognized all too well.

She threatened him, "Raymond, if you cast any spells right now. Just know, you shall know no rest for the next mon—no, year until I find out the truth."

"We might be in public, but that only means I’ll hesitate slightly."

Raymond knew all too well that last part was true, she might have loved to show off her dramatic ice queen persona in public purely for the sake of looking cool. But she wouldn’t hesitate the moment she decided it was necessary, like that time with the academy play.

He released the incantation he had formed.

"...promise me you won’t get mad?"

"I promise I’ll be even madder if you don’t tell me."
