Chapter 903: Association Announcement

And just like that, the break time came and went, without any of them offering a single iota of useful information for the government.

Grace spent those twelve minutes outside the suite telling three separate federal officials that Kaiden Grey remained biologically human and would not be detained unless a court order was signed.

Then she drank water so hard the bottle crackled, and called the Chairman.

The Chairman entered with two aides, one security commander, and eyes that said every contingency document he owned had just become historical fiction.

"Mister Grey."

"Chairman."

"I have received calls from four heads of state, two religious councils, and one billionaire who offered to fund a moon base if I could guarantee the sky won’t do that again."

Kaiden blinked.

The Chairman dryly examined the young man who didn’t seem intent on responding to what he just said, forcing him to ask, "Can you guarantee the sky won’t do that again?"

"No."

"Did you intend for it to happen?"

"No."

"Do you know what answered the artifact?"

"The source of my class, probably."

"Do you know what that means?"

"That my class has one hell of an ominous source."

"..." The Chairman didn’t know what to do with this shameless creature. Finally, he sighed. "So be it. We appreciate you taking the tests."

"Whatever benefits humanity, Chairman. I hope your findings will help us all," Kaiden spoke with an uncharacteristic, saintly aura that was giving PTSD to a certain high-ranking Awakened Association member.

For good measure, Kaiden added, "As discussed, my dungeon is open to your researchers as well."

"...They’ll arrive at the earliest possible time."

"Great," Kaiden nodded. "So, about our new ranks? Let me guess, I’m an F-tier?"

The Chairman chuckled at that, mysterious. "We’ll make the announcement within minutes."

...

Mira hadn’t moved from the bench since the sky opened.

She’d come for the reassessment results, same as Jess, same as all the people lining the streets outside the Association headquarters.

They’d camped here since morning with phones charged and fan accounts loaded, ready to screenshot the moment Valhalla’s Sinners’ official tiers finally climbed out of the F-tier gutter.

Then the sky had changed, and for one long second Mira had considered whether she was about to die.

The seven-armed thing hadn’t made a sound as it simply looked down, and every person on this street had understood with gut-level certainty that the planet was being observed by something that could close its hand and end everything.

People ran. Some dropped to their knees. A woman three benches down started screaming prayers in a language Mira didn’t recognize and kept going for twenty minutes. Association guards in full gear pushed barricades wider to keep the crush from killing someone.

Then it passed. The sky emptied.

But despite the running crowds, she’d stayed because it was the Sinners and no cosmic horror was going to rob her of seeing their F-tier tags finally change.

The crowd that remained sorted itself into species.

The fangirls were loudest. Homemade signs, matching t-shirts, a girl near the barricade who had ’KaiKaiKai’ tattooed on her collarbone and was telling anyone who’d listen that she’d predicted this months ago on Twitter. A woman in her thirties had an ’I Love You Kaiden❤️❤️❤️’ poster and zero shame about it.

Conspiracy theorists had their own corner, phones turned toward each other instead of the building, arguing about whether the entity had seven arms or eight, and many other things.

Reporters, who didn’t make a mad dash for it, formed a nervous ring near the press barricade, trying to look professional while visibly rattled. One had mascara streaked to her chin and was doing a live segment anyway.

Jess sat beside Mira, both hands wrapped around a coffee she hadn’t touched since the sky happened. Her voice was still unsteady when she spoke.

"Refresh again."

"I’m refreshing."

"Refresh harder."

"That’s not how it works."

Mira had been refreshing the Awakened Association’s registry page for eleven minutes. She’d watched every Sinners stream, read every thread, defended them in every argument, and spent months being furious that the official registry still listed the entire gang, save for the little sis, at F-tier.

F-tier. The man who defeated dungeon bosses A-tier awakened could only run from. The women who held the line beside him, sometimes even outshining him when the moment was right. F-tier, like useless awakened who could barely deal damage with their weak classes.

Today that would finally change.

At long last, they’d surely be recognized as the S-tier awakened they were.

The page loaded.

’OFFICIAL STATEMENT - AWAKENED ASSOCIATION OF THE UNITED STATES’

’Office of the Chairman’

’RE: Classification Restructure’

Mira sat up straight. Jess leaned over until her chin was on Mira’s shoulder.

"Restructure??"

’Following the conclusion of the Eclipse Guild reassessment conducted earlier today, the Awakened Association has determined that the current classification framework requires immediate revision.’

’The events of today’s reassessment, including the unprecedented global presence event observed during the final test, have revealed that our existing measurement parameters are no longer sufficient to categorize the full spectrum of awakened power. In the interest of public safety, institutional transparency, and the continued integrity of our classification system, the following changes take effect immediately.’

Mira swiped past two more paragraphs about diagnostic methodology and measurement standards.

’SECTION I: REVISION OF S-TIER CLASSIFICATION’

"There," Jess said, tapping the screen. "New tiers."

’Since the founding of the Awakened Association, the S-tier designation has served as the highest recognized classification for awakened combatants. However, as the global awakened population has grown and multiple individuals within S-tier have demonstrated power levels with significant and measurable variance, retaining a single designation for this range is no longer tenable.’

’Effective immediately, the S-tier classification is subdivided as follows:’

’S - Standard S-tier. No change in designation for awakened currently classified at this level unless individually reclassified below.’

’SS - Superior S-tier. Awakened whose measured output exceeds standard S-tier parameters by a factor of...’

Mira scrolled through the definitions. She didn’t care about the math.

’SSS - Supreme S-tier. Awakened whose measured output exceeds SS-tier parameters by...’

More math. More parameters. She kept going.

’The following individuals have been reclassified under the revised framework:’
