Chapter 873: A Revolutionary Weapon
"It doesn’t look like we have much time, Your Majesty." Logan’s voice rattled through the cheap wooden cabin built near the defence walls for people to rest temporarily.
Their emperor shrugged.
"Even if we only had a few hours, that would be enough. Logan, you’ve done well creating such a revolutionary weapon."
’It’s so cool!’
Asmodeus couldn’t help but love the massive Kraken Slayers.
Despite their ugliness, there was a hidden desire in most men’s hearts. Be it for mechs, guns, planes or missiles. The delight of seeing things explode, penetrate or destroy things brought a strange sense of enjoyment to Asmodeus.
’I want to fire it...’
He glanced at the two megaweapons.
"D-Do you mean that, Your Majesty?"
"Why are you being so stiff? Just call me Lad or Laddie as you used to..."
"No, no, no... how could I speak to the emperor of demons with such a familiar greeting!?"
"Haa... well, whatever, let’s continue the meeting. Alan, it’s great to see you. Brother."
Alan raised the corners of his lips. "Brother, it is my pleasure to be here."
’He looks much worse now.’
"Are you sure you don’t want to rest in Grigor, brother?"
"No, to help you and stay here feels more important to me, Your Majesty."
It was rare for Alan to call Asmodeus Majesty—thus, hearing it made his spine tingle slightly.
Yet he didn’t mind too much.
"Just let me know if you need anything."
"Of course."
Not long after the ships docked, Asmodeus sent most of his wives and women to the city. Because they all had wings, it wasn’t difficult to visit Grigor. The only ones that remained were Nerim and Valena, both of whom stood beside him in the small room.
’It’s a little hot...’
He could feel the heavy, yet comfortable weight of Valena’s breasts wrapping his right arm as she shifted in place.
Ever since her mother’s heart appeared, she became docile and cute.
Nerim, on the other hand, seemed to enjoy serving as his subordinate. Each time his fingers traced across her taut abdomen, it clenched, revealing her pristine, tanned skin and her beautiful mermaid-blue scales, which glowed brighter.
"Your Majesty, maybe we can move on and speak about our plans?" Lun raised her hand, interrupting the strange atmosphere.
"Your Majesty, maybe we can move on and speak about our plans?" Brando raised his hand, interrupting the strange atmosphere.
Asmodeus glanced at him.
The broad-shouldered quarter demon stood near the back of the cabin with his arms crossed, his armour still damp from the sea air. His expression looked serious, but the way his eyes kept flickering toward Valena’s chest wrapped around Asmodeus’s arm made it difficult for anyone to take him completely seriously.
It wasn’t like he was a pervert, but the way her massive mounds deformed in shape each time she shifted and clung to Asmodeus drew most males’ attention.
"Ahem..." Clearing his throat, he returned to the map in front of them and placed his hand around the clifftop.
"This is where we placed the first Kraken Slayer. The angle is poor if the target comes from the western current, but if the spawn follows the trench line, it should have a clean shot."
Asmodeus looked down at the map.
The harbour below the cliff was drawn with rough black ink, while the wooden docks were marked with little blocks and red circles. Logan had even drawn the two Kraken Slayers with far too much detail, as if he were proud enough to make the weapons prettier than the town itself.
’He really loves them...’
Asmodeus understood that feeling.
He also loved them.
"Why is the second one lower?" he asked.
Logan quickly stepped forward. "Because the recoil would destroy the upper platform if both fired from the same height, Your Majesty. The lower dock is reinforced with abyssal steel so that it can endure more impact."
"Endure how much?"
"About... two of Your Majesty’s full-powered attacks."
’How the hell did they calculate that?’ Asmodeus couldn’t help but picture Velvet and Serena in his mind’s eye. ’Maybe it was them?’
Brando looked at him. "Logan."
The inventor froze.
"...Enough for three consecutive shots before repairs are needed."
"Hm? So you mean it could endure three shots, or two attacks from the outside?" Asmodeus frowned at the new information.
’This seems dangerous.’
Alan’s brows lifted slightly. "And after three?"
"The dock may become unstable."
Asmodeus tried not to speak; otherwise, he would douse any spirits or thoughts from the men discussing things so feverently.
’But I need to know...’
"How unstable are we talking? Would it be enough for a final shot, or will we be looking at a complete defeat?"
"So we should not miss."
"Exactly!" Logan said, looking strangely happy that someone understood.
Brando sighed. "That is not the part you should sound excited about."
Nerim moved closer to the map. Her blue scales glowed faintly as she stared at the trench drawn beneath the harbour. Unlike the others, she didn’t look at the cannons first. Her gaze went straight to the water.
"We cannot forget the other monsters, remember... they will not approach like normal monsters but creatures completely berserk and with no regard for their lives."
Asmodeus’s finger danced in careless circles across Valena’s abdomen.
The sudden tingle of heat spread from her abdomen. Her hips swayed from side to side and clung tighter to his chest. Her face was bright red as she exhaled hot puffs of steam from her nose.
Nerim continued, her voice soft but clear.
"Since they feel no pain, we must eradicate them without mercy or care. There can be no doubt, and the sailors mustn’t hesitate."
"You have a fair point, Nerim."
’To think she’s been studying them this intently for me...’
Everyone became quiet.
The small cabin creaked from the wind outside. Far below, the docks echoed with the sound of chains being tied to boats, soldiers, and engineers shouting over each other. The smell of oil, damp wood, saltwater and metal filled the air.
Nerim placed her finger on the outer harbour.
"Those creatures weren’t born like this, so... their bodies must want to return to balance, but the corruption inside them won’t allow it. If we have some way to purify them... it might just help us avoid the worst-case scenario."
"Is that possible?" Logan asked, while glancing at Alan.
Everyone knew Alan was a former paladin and hero, his ability to purify greater than anyone else, at least in the past.
"Ah, technically it should be possible, but the level of purification would need someone with..." His eyes trailed across Nerim, Asmodeus and Valena. "Someone with divine-level purification, due to the abyssal energy."
"Wouldn’t the abyssal energy devour it?" Asmodeus asked while sliding his hand behind Valena, firmly gripping her buttocks. The softness and heat spread through his palm as she let out a cute yelp, before resting her weight on his shoulder.
"Normally, but because the monsters in question don’t have any cores that produce the energy, once the two meet, they slowly burn each other until nothing remains."
’Hmm, I can see the reasoning.’
Asmodeus lowered his gaze to the map, picturing the monsters beneath the water. If they had no true core, then they were like rotten flesh animated by leftover poison. Killing them would only spread the poison further, while purification might burn out the corruption before it scattered.
"Can we apply purification to the shells wrapping the Kraken Slayer harpoons?" he asked.
Logan’s expression stiffened.
"That... would be difficult."
"But, not impossible. Right?"
"Not impossible, but it would be extremely unstable. The shell’s outer layer is designed for penetration, not holding holy energy. If we carve channels into the shell, perhaps Sir Alan could pour purification through them, but the reaction might weaken the structure."
Brando frowned. "Meaning?"
"It could break before impact."
"Then that’s useless."
"Not completely," Alan said, his smile faint but tired. "If the shell only needs to deliver purification after the armour breaks, it doesn’t need to remain stable for long."
Nerim’s eyes brightened slightly.
"We use the first shot to wound them, then the second shell to inject purification into the torn flesh?"
"So you want to develop two types of harpoon?" Logan rubbed his massive grey beard before grumbling. "A penetration and explosive harpoon?" His eyes shone as he began drawing rapidly with the charcoal in his hands.
"That sounds correct."
Asmodeus nodded.
"Like opening a bottle before pouring poison inside."
Valena’s lashes fluttered as she sighed against Asmodeus’s cheek, the heat leaking from her skin causing faint embers to sizzle in the air. "Master.... please stop..."
Asmodeus glanced at her face before slipping two fingers free from between her thighs with a soft squish. A translucent fluid dripped from between his fingers like webbing as he held them behind her back.
’I got carried away...’
Brando exhaled through his nose and dragged one finger from the cliff toward the lower dock.
"Then the order is simple. First cannon breaks them. Second cannon purifies or finishes them. If the dock cannot survive more than three shots, we cannot waste even one."
Logan nodded quickly. "I’ll have the crews prepare two modified shells, but only two. If we try to alter more than that before battle, we may ruin the ammunition."
Asmodeus smirked. "Then, you may ask my wives to help you with the divine-level purification energy; each of them should be able to give you a hefty amount."
Alan opened his mouth to speak, but a horn blared from the docks.
The cabin shook.
From below, someone screamed, "The water is rising!"
