Chapter 355: A Confrontation In The Elevator
When Maverick arrived at the location Gilbert shared, he caught Kayden at the hotel’s lobby, with a shopping bag in each hand.
Maverick silently shadowed him until they were both in the elevator. A middle aged man tried to enter, but Maverick shoved him back, sending him crashing on his arse.
"What the hell?" Kayden dropped the bags and tried to help. But he was pulled back by the furious tug on his collar by Maverick.
He slammed his back against the wall, and caged Kayden’s throat with his fingers.
In a loud whisper he demanded, "How are you connected to my sister?!"
Kayden grabbed his wrists, and pried them off his neck. "Are all Graysons this unhinged?" He tossed him aside and picked the shopping bags up.
Keeping a civil distance between them, Kayden replied, "I’m pursuing her-"
"Then stop." He retorted, "She’s leagues above you. Don’t get cocky over closing one deal with Matthew."
Before Kayden could respond the elevator reached it’s destination. He made a gesture to leave, but Maverick grabbed his wrist.
"I am not one to dispense empty threats. You would be wise to back off now. Before things turn ugly." He warned, then released his wrist.
Content with his warning. He had kept the Reginald family under his radar ever since he signed a deal with Matthew.
Their wealth wasn’t to be compared to his family’s, but they were doing well for themselves.
However the hierarchy still existed.
And Maverick was certain no one would intentionally try to piss off a Grayson.
Little did he expect Kayden to charge at him, abandoning the clothes outside the elevator.
"What-"
He cut him off with a blow right next to his head.
"Before things get ugly?!" He shook his head from side to side, rolling his eyes in disbelief. "Was that before or after your sister used my money to fund her drug addiction?"
Even though it was just the two of them in the elevator, and he had angrily whispered the last part, his words hung in the air, hovering over the deafening silence.
It took Maverick some moments to straighten his spine and ask, "You knew?"
Kayden straightened his shirt, taking two steps back, "I take it it’s not an arcanum." Maverick’s reaction confirmed his doubt on whether the Grayson family was aware of her addiction.
Perhaps they refused to fund her purchase and that was why she was desperate enough to accept money from a stranger.
Maverick clicked his tongue, "It is a secret, one I’m hoping you’ll keep under wraps." His voice stood over the ding sound of the elevator reaching the grand floor.
They were back at the lobby, and the man Maverick had pushed was with two security guards, frantically explaining the situation.
The security team recognized Maverick, his sister frequented the hotel with her friends, not to mention his family invested heavily in the building.
The staff apologized for the trouble caused, and when Maverick demanded a room, he was given a grand suite.
Scanning the key card he said, "Come in, we have a lot to discuss."
Kayden wanted to reject the offer. He was certain Anna was awake and probably confused as hell. However, there were some things he needed clarification on too.
Hence he walked in after Maverick and shut the door.
Ethan opened the door into what used to be Luther’s office. His eyes narrowed at the blonde sitting at his desk, scrolling through her phone.
"Madam president, Mr Halton is here to see you." Announced the assistant.
She turned off her phone, and raised her gaze to him, her green eyes unimpressed. "Thank you. You may leave us."
The assistant nodded and quietly saw herself out the door, leaving the two to converse.
"Mr Halton, how can I help you?" She asked, reaching for her pens.
"I want Brooke-"
She flashed him a polite smile, "Have a seat first, and then you can tell me why you’re here."
He balled his fists tightly to his side but complied with her request.
The last thing he wanted was to upset his grandmother.
Feet planted wide, one foot bouncing fast, a hand fixing his tie, he demanded. "I want Brooke."
She laughed. "Don’t we all?"
His jaw tightened. "You’re the president of this agency, you should know where your talent is holed up-"
Strumming her pen against her desk she cut him off, "That’s classified information."
He barked at her. "I am a shareholder!"
"And I’m the president."
He loosened his tie. "Look lady, just name your price and cut me the bullshit. Tell me where Brooke is hiding-"
"Hiding? Why would she have any reason to hide?" Hannah asked, strumming her pen against the desk even louder.
Ethan digged his nails into the sofa. "Stop doing that." he muttered under his breath.
"What was that?" She probed in a light hearted tone.
Springing up to his feet he charged for her pen, snatched it and snapped it in half!
Slamming his palm on the desk he raised his voice. "I’m not going to say it again. And before you answer you’d better choose your words carefully."
"Madam president!" Her assistant shrieked as she barged into the room, her eyes wide with fright.
"Security-"
Hannah raised her palm. "It’s fine Gwen, everything is under control."
Ethan’s eyes darkened. "Jen?" He snapped his head at the cowering woman, his gaze lucid.
Hannah gestured her to leave which she did, but not without leaving the door half open.
"Jen?" Hannah narrowed her eyes on his shaky hands. "Who are you mistaking my assistant for?"
He shook his head and backed away. "Brooke." He said, avoiding her question.
She showed him both palms, "Just like you, I haven’t the faintest clue where she is."
"Don’t lie to me-"
"She was in the middle of filming with a big shot. Who do you think wants to see her the most-" right in the middle of her sentence, Aaron barged into the office, and charged at Ethan with full force!
