Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Live With Me
"..."
As soon as Sean Bell said those words, Thea Lynch frowned.
"She’s dreaming too big." Thea sneered coldly.
What exactly is Nina Sinclair thinking?
Usually, she wouldn’t even ask Ian Preston for her own matters, and now she should ask him for Nina? Surely, there’s nothing wrong with her mind.
Even if she could swallow her pride, she would never ask Ian Preston for help for someone irrelevant.
"You have to admit, Nina Sinclair is pretty smart." Sean’s opinion differed from hers.
Hearing this, Thea looked at him, somewhat surprised.
Sean rarely praises anyone, especially Nina Sinclair. She remembered he had quite a big problem with Nina.
Seeing the confusion in her eyes, Sean leaned back, "She can’t see Ian Preston at all now, so compared to finding him, the odds of finding you are much higher."
"Besides, the main reason Ian’s been so harsh is because of you. So she went straight to the root of the problem."
Thea: "..."
"Don’t put every blame on me." Lowering her eyes, Thea turned on the computer.
Sean laughed, "No matter what, you’re indeed the only variable in this matter. Only you have the power to change Ian’s mind."
"You’re wrong. No one can change this matter."
While responding to emails, Thea argued in her spare time: "Including Ian. Since this matter has been exposed, the upper levels are very concerned, and it’s impossible to backtrack."
"Her father climbed to his current position, undoubtedly with many people wanting to pull him down in secret. Once Ian gets involved, he won’t need to do anything, and others will continue to fan the flames. The fire will only get bigger."
"Even if Ian can wrap things up now, there’s no benefit for him, and it might accidentally anger a lot of people. So why bother?"
From any angle, Thea thinks Ian should not step in again.
"That’s true." Sean nodded in agreement.
"Alright then, I’ll block them for you. No one will share your contact information, but I think that Ms. Song won’t just let it go; you better be careful. At the company or at home, she will try all means to find you."
"Tsk." Sean’s words were somewhat intimidating, "The way you’re putting it, am I being chased by a debt collector?"
As if Nina Sinclair is inescapable.
"She’d be better off finding Owen Vaughn than looking for me."
Hearing her say this, Sean chuckled, his shoulders shaking, "I was just about to tell you that."
"What?" Thea raised her eyes, looking over in bewilderment.
"She definitely went to the Vaughn Family first, but that kid in the Vaughn Family couldn’t handle it. Afraid of getting into trouble, Mr. Vaughn kicked her away."
"The matter got quite big, and Mr. Vaughn didn’t show up, having his wife publicly humiliate her instead."
"I have a video of it; do you want to see?"
Saying this, Sean took out his phone, ready to find it for her.
Thea glanced at him, gesturing for him to stay away, "Not interested."
"Alright." Sean agreed verbally but didn’t obediently do as told. He found the video and played it anyway.
He deliberately turned up the volume, and the sound of two women arguing could be heard.
Many of the words were unrefined; some Thea hadn’t even heard before. Halfway through listening, Thea finished the email in her hand, "Turn it off."
"Just listen." Sean placed the phone on the table, kindly summarizing the contents for her, not forgetting to add a few comments at the end, "That Vaughn wife really has some skills."
"Now she’s really pushed to the edge. Not only did she lose her cushy job, but with her dad’s issue coming out, she probably won’t find any good work in Coronet anymore."
"So, she’s definitely going to find you."
Sean was talking about Nina Sinclair.
He advised Thea to be more vigilant in the coming days.
"How about not staying at the company? Come stay with me for a few days?"
"..." Upon hearing this, Thea paused in her work and looked up at him. Meeting her probing gaze, Sean shrugged off any guilt, smiling.
"No need."
Thea: "The security in our neighborhood is quite good."
"As the saying goes, better safe than sorry." Sean purposefully exaggerated the seriousness to try and get her to move sooner.
"My place is pretty big, six bedrooms for you to choose from; what are you afraid of?"
Thea shut down the computer, looking at him seriously, "What are you really up to?"
He was being so obvious that Thea had to ask.
"Isn’t your current place Ian’s? Don’t you want to move out?" Sean grinned mischievously, the murkiness in his eyes behind the glasses making it hard to discern his intentions. "I’m helping you out here."
"Even if I wanted to move, I have plenty of places to stay; why would I go to your place?"
"It’s close. My place isn’t far from Stratus."
Thea shook her head with a smile, a bit helpless, "I appreciate the thought, but I don’t need it for now."
Sean didn’t press the issue, "Alright then. Just think it through yourself."
——
The next morning, as soon as Thea got up, she received a call from an unknown number.
It was a Coronet number.
She had a pretty good memory, but she definitely hadn’t seen this string of numbers before, so it wasn’t anyone she knew.
She didn’t let it bother her and quickly went out after freshening up.
Her grandfather, being older, slept less than they did. By the time she got up, he was already having breakfast.
Thea went over, took the bowl from the housekeeper’s hand, and accompanied her grandfather to finish breakfast.
"Thea, go for a walk with Grandpa."
After breakfast, her grandfather wanted to go out again.
"Okay, I’ll wash my hands and be right there." Thea poked her head out from the bathroom, responding promptly, "Wait for me a minute."
After washing her hands, Thea went back to her room, grabbed a coat to wear, and then pushed her grandfather outside.
At this time, the courtyard was already bustling.
The sound of training from the neighboring military unit could be heard from afar. Having lived here for so many years, Thea was used to it and didn’t find it noisy.
Meeting other elders on the way, her grandfather had her stop.
Several elderly commanders were discussing yesterday’s chess game; Thea stood to the side, lost in her own thoughts.
When her gaze swept over to the not-so-distant gate of The Bell Family, she suddenly thought of Sean’s words from yesterday...
Coupled with the missed call from an unknown number that morning, Thea couldn’t help but link it to Nina Sinclair.
"Thea." An elder called her.
"Yes?"
Thea withdrew her gaze, smiling slightly as she responded.
"Did you organize your grandfather’s birthday banquet all by yourself this time?"
"No." Thea shook her head, telling the truth, "Most of it was coordinated by Ian."
"Ian Preston, huh. It seems like I haven’t seen him back in the yard these days."
Hearing this, Thea hesitated a bit before explaining: "Ian’s been quite busy lately, on a business trip probably. He got back only recently, and we haven’t seen him either."
