Chapter 40: Unexpected Visit

"Easy-peasy."

Cillian smiled while holding the flag in his hand after crossing the Retrieving Area, where the flags of their opponents are supposed to be brought for the match to end.

Before crossing the area, he had already returned his face to normal, leaving him unable to change faces for a day.

Even if he tried to use his again, Cillian couldn’t do so because of how new the Faceless still is for him and hasn’t been fully assimilated into his body.

Even his system doesn’t allow it.

[23:55:49]

"Hey!"

Cillian saw Mouthful Eye rolling near the Receiving Area before jumping onto Cillian’s shoulder.

"Leaving without me?"

Cillian scoffed.

"We already planned this, right? Once you find the chance, start rolling towards here. That was the reason I brought you to roam around."

"Kay, kay." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

Cillian chuckled before inserting Mouthful Eye and put him in his pocket.

"Now then..."

Observing the versioned battlefield disappearing right before his eyes for a few moments, Cillian then moved his gaze to the white flag he currently possessed for a brief moment.

Then his eyes fell into the Runic Language at the handle.

It appeared just as Cillian entered the Retrieving Area.

He knew how this flag works, obviously.

There are two available functions of this flag for a moment.

The first function was Combine.

Second is...

"Shrink."

Speaking the Runic Language under his breath, the magic flag shrank and became a miniature version enough for his two hands to cover the item.

"It seems like you are indeed very aware of how the flag of the academy celebration works."

Cillian shivered as he heard someone’s voice talking while slowly approaching him. Turning his head around, he couldn’t help but chuckle nervously.

"Haha... I guess so, sir Ulrich."

’I didn’t even notice his presence.’

Cillian added inwardly.

The homeroom instructor for Class 1-A, Ulrich, nodded once with an amiable smile.

"What do you mean, guess? It was your club that spread information regarding the entire concept of the tournament. Some classes that possessed this knowledge made different strategies because of you. Haha, you don’t need to lie with this man."

Cillian let out a nervous chuckle before starting to leave the area he was in after bidding farewell to his instructor.

After all, everyone will eventually come to the Retrieving Area, as it was the exit that the students must use.

If they went onto another versioned battlefield that didn’t belong to their match, even by accident, they’d likely get punished.

There is also another reason.

’They are not dumb enough to realize that it was me who had stolen the flag if they saw me here first at the Retrieving area. I’ll avoid them as much as possible. Also, my things... well, all of it is trash now anyway. It’s all food and consumables I’ve prepared for my bag that lasts me for a week.’

Cillian couldn’t help but think about the adventurer’s bag he bought, but he had to run away fast.

He had another problem he had to worry about!

’That damn Aiden.’

Cillian had to worry about an Aiden Problem to deal with.

He didn’t know if Caspin had already begun investigating what actually transpired between them and might come to realize that something was wrong in his club.

After all, Cillian only covered the strange circus-looking door with a cloth.

’Ah fuck, please don’t let it happen yet!’

...

"What the..."

Cillian’s gaze fell inside the room where... nothing had changed.

Phillip and Vin seemed to have no time to clean up the mess inside the room after being influenced by Aiden’s powers, hence nothing seemed to be different inside even after a week had passed.

"Okay..."

Cillian approached the door that Aiden used to keep his power isolated and removed the cloth he used to cover it.

His eyes blinked strangely.

"Ah, damn it! It’s really too eye-catching!"

Cillian complained before realizing that the academy tournament had helped him more than it was supposed to.

Since the second and third years were also part of the tournament, adding the fact that Freya is part of the student council, she’s most likely busy.

Monitoring him is going to be put at the lowest priority, but it doesn’t change the fact that he’s still a priority.

Freya will definitely visit him soon.

"If I don’t come up with a solution with this, she will surely check if something is wrong. In fact, she might’ve already heard something weird occur if she had been able to talk with Caspin. Who knows what is going on with that Treasurer’s head after being with three men in a few days?"

Rustle—!

Suddenly, the artifact Mouthful Eye jumped from his pocket and landed at his shoulder, giving a fake cough.

"If I may, and as your valuable helper, can I suggest a solution?"

Since he was really running out of ideas to think about, and it was finally time to see what his valuable helper could offer, Cillian began to hear the artifact’s suggestion as his face slowly turned strange.

And by the end of the eye’s suggestion, Cillian’s face grew somber.

But what could he do?

"All right, that seems to be the only natural thing to do in this situation. Let’s do it."

Cillian locked and left his club before rushing towards a nearby store where he could find the items he needed to execute Mouthful Eye’s plans.

...

"Hah..."

Tired but determined, Cillian managed to stroke his paintbrush for one final push.

Bringing down the paint on his hand to the floor while completely tirelessly focusing on one job for a day, he couldn’t help but smile in delight.

Though his smile got stuck on his lips when Mouthful Eye complained.

"What the hell?! How are you so trash in this!"

"Ugh..."

Mouthful Eye couldn’t help but ridicule Cillian’s work he had done to paint the wall where Aiden’s power had been manifested through a door.

It was the plan that Cillian’s valuable helper suggested.

Instead of trying to conceal something very obvious if they were people to come inside his club, it’s better to use it and try to mesh the strange circus-like door with its surroundings.

"Hey, I know it’s trash, but the work’s done. I’ve purposely done it this way so that it matches the weirdness and peculiarity of the door."

Cillian clicked his tongue, giving out a reason for doing a shitty and a mess of a painting.

"Besides, I’ve wasted too much of my time here. The next fight will happen in the next few days."

Cillian shifted his gaze to the artifact.

"Now, continue looking outside and report if you see Freya coming. She’s blonde, with green gem-like eyes, and a very beautiful female."

Mouthful Eye grumbled before it rolled itself underneath the door to peek through any intruders that might come to his club while finishing the task at hand.

’Now there’s only the curtain left,’

Cillian mused inwardly as he grabbed the curtain he bought alongside the paints that were scattered around the place before using a ladder to move upward.

Inserting the curtain in the handle, which he had added earlier, that covered the one part of the room, Cillian couldn’t help but be distracted after being called by Mouthful Eye.

"Uhm, Cillian."

Cillian struggled to stop what he was doing as he replied without looking back.

"Someone is approaching this club. This individual is entirely different from the description you’ve given to me."

’Different? It’s not Phillip, Caspin, or Vin? This eye could’ve known. Which means it is someone he didn’t know yet, like Freya...’

Mouthful Eye then continued.

"Hey, I think I’ve seen this guy before."

Cillian went down to the ladder and tried to arrange himself even though he was all dirty and raggedy.

"Come here..."

Mouthful Eye rolled itself towards Cillian, who grabbed the artifact and rubbed it with his hands.

Activating the Whispering Sphere after placing it in the middle of the room, he waited for this person until, eventually, a knock came outside from the club room.

"Cillian, I think I know who is outside. You didn’t tell me the name of this particular person at all."

"Huh? You have a bad memory now or something?"

Cillian ignored Mouthful Eye as it won’t matter now.

Tak—!

’I didn’t say the name of this person?’

Cillian then started thinking about that statement when he saw the knob twisting from his club door as it opened, revealing a familiar person outside.

Cillian’s face twisted when he realized that this person was no other than the main character, Aster Densworth.

"The fuck?"

Cillian cursed under his breath, causing Aster to frown as he tilted his head slightly to the side.

"Is that how you are supposed to greet someone?"
