Chapter 29: Swindling Student Council President

Thud—!

Hearing the sliding door open, Cillian glanced to the side while letting out a tired yawn that opened his jaw wide before greeting the person who came inside.

"Good morning, ma’am Freya,"

"Morning."

Today was yet another day, and the same as ever. As usual, Freya was monitoring him.

This time, however, she seemed to be unable to dress herself properly as her hair was tied in a ponytail position with her eyes tired.

Nothing much happened yesterday aside from it being normal.

Cillian attended classes as he usually did, Freya monitored him, received the payment and intel from Iska, and began to practice the spells he had decided to learn. He also didn’t receive any club tasks yesterday as well.

As for the day before that, it was a completely... successful? The meeting he had with those six people turned out to be disastrous, and at the same time, brought forth various opportunities.

In the end, even if forming a bond with them somehow turned into failure, something Cillian was confident that it wasn’t, at least he made a connection with them. His worst expectation didn’t occur since all of them had the same goal inside the room. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

It was information.

Because of that information, they are going to save their class a time of five days to prepare for what’s about to come.

And today, he was thinking of yet another scheme.

’Ugh, even though everyone had the same goal when they met me, someone wanted to get something other than information.’

Cillian thought inwardly as he no longer hoped that the usual ending of his days within the past few days would be the same this time.

’Please, don’t be mad about me, ma’am. One of the people I met on Sunday is definitely a crazy woman! She only accepted the invitation from Ethan because you are the one monitoring me.’

He was about to speak when Freya interjected.

"You didn’t feel the earthquake yesterday?"

Cillian turned stiff when he realized what that meant.

If it were any other normal earthquake, which should rarely happen, such a thing would’ve been announced by the school boards.

But the way Freya described this particular earthquake, it only meant that it was a runic gate appearance.

"Far from here?"

Cillian asked.

"Yes, and since it was in the middle of the night and far from this place, even an ant wouldn’t be moved due to how weak it is, there was no need to sound the alarm. I didn’t even notice it since it’s on the other side of the world. You know, other races? We just received information about it this morning."

Cillian frowned.

’Is this the reason why she appeared haggard early in the morning?’

He then spoke worriedly.

"Are you all right now? If you’re already this relaxed and the school isn’t making a move, I guess everything is under control?"

"Yes, there’s no need to worry. There are no aftershocks from the quake, but if there’s a follow-up tremor, we’re already prepared."

Hearing those reassuring words coming from the president of the student council, Cillian didn’t doubt any longer and continued listening to the current class.

Until the end of the discussion, he was focused and taking notes since this was where he was supposed to learn the [Gale] spell.

Of course, he was taking notes of them, alongside [Stone Ball] and [Water Wall], but he was mostly trying to strengthen his attack, and he thinks that the [Fireball] spell is the most lethal attack he could do.

This is the schedule he decided to do.

Learning one spell until he masters or gains a certain degree of mastery on it, then he’ll proceed to do another type of spell that he’ll use.

Hence, for the whole week, he will have to learn the fireball spell swiftly and be enough to prepare for the upcoming tournament next week.

To do it, he had to properly practice, and the training ground he received from Iska was a good place to put it into action.

But first things first, he had one little thing left to do.

On their way out of the classroom, Cillian suddenly suggested.

"Freya, wanna grab a lunch?"

Freya had her head swiftly switched onto him.

For a second, she was looking forward while they left the room, and the next instant, she was staring at him.

It was so fast that it frightened Cillian and sent shivers through his whole body.

’Her head moved to the side so fast, what the hell! Am I going to regret it?’

Cillian mused inwardly, thinking that the ploy behind his question can be seen.

Freya watched him carefully, seeing a sweat pass through his cheek before answering,

"All right. It’s not like monitoring you ended yet. Your treat, got it?"

"Sure..."

Even though it pained him to use a point to treat her to a meal, Cillian knew that what he was about to do was for his benefit... and him alone.

...

Sitting down in opposite chairs, Cillian nervously moved his knee, repeatedly tapping the ground back and forth. He tried to munch on a small piece of bread, but it nearly choked him.

Thankfully, with a swift maneuver by grabbing a cup of water, he ended just fine.

Freya watched everything with an indifferent expression as she took another spoonful of rice into her mouth. Then, picking up a piece of meat and cabbage on the side, she silently chewed while looking around.

She then stopped her gaze at Cillian.

"Whatever you are doing, it should not be dangerous that either endangers me, the student council, or the students themselves."

Feeling that his actions had been seen, which he deliberately showed since he didn’t have any reason to hide them, Cillian pretended to have been caught.

Doing this when he had a different agenda will make it more suspicious. It was better for her to know that he had invited her for a meal over something.

’All good, I was afraid of her rejection if I told her the truth right away. But now that we’re here, it’s okay to be honest,’

With a long breath, Cillian looked straight at her before confessing.

"Someone wanted to meet you."

Tak—!

Suddenly, a woman grabbed a chair from the side, put it beside their table near Cillian, and leaned her head toward him as she looked at Freya.

"Hello, Ma’am Gray,"

The woman who greeted Freya had long, blue-raven hair that stretched up to her thighs. Her thin hazel eyes stared at her front with a very striking face as her lips curled upwards. Her demeanor was calm but full of playfulness.

Freya watched her for a moment before solemnly greeting.

"Dena Fritz. A first year from class 2-B."

She glanced at Cillian before sighing.

"You’re trying to make me meet her?"

"You... could say that."

Cillian hesitantly answered before whispering to Dena something which is loud enough for the person in front of them to hear.

"You don’t have any beef with her or something, right?"

Dena chuckled as she continued pressing her head against Cillian’s shoulders before looking at him, their lips almost reaching each other.

"Of course, not."

Cillian nodded as he remembered that this was a condition he had gotten from Dena on Sunday.

This condition will make him friends with Dena and the people backing her. Whenever he was in trouble, he could receive help from her, but that would be if the favors were matched.

They are not going to blindly help him because of this. Everything in this world is like a fair and equal exchange, after all.

Now, Dena and her gang owe him one because he managed to pull off a meeting with Freya, the Student Council president of this academy.

With that, he had no job left to do on the table.

Cillian stood up but was immediately stopped by Freya.

Still looking at Dena, Freya spoke solemnly.

"I still have to monitor you."

"I know, ma’am, but it should be ending in a few minutes. I also have something to do in a training ground for the upcoming tournament. Please, hear her out first. I assure you, it’s not as dangerous as you think it is currently."

Freya seemed to have a lot to say before shaking her head, the tips of her lips curling upwards.

"All right, you have my attention. What made you use Cillian to pull off a meeting that requires my attention?"

Cillian didn’t hesitate to stay, as whatever problem or meeting they had was solely theirs.

His hands were fully tied at the moment, and he didn’t want them getting tired more than it was supposed to.

...

Pushing the right key for the door on my front while the keychains were dangling soundly, Cillian twisted the knob before opening the door of his very own and his members’ training ground.

The training ground, from one of Iska’s rewards, is located in the gymnasium part of the academy near the academy square. Some training grounds are free for all, but with it come people.

And when training, most people prefer single training for them to fully understand what is actually happening and focus on their learning.

And Cillian is able to use one of the private training grounds where blinds are covering the windows with refreshing air produced by the academy system itself, with the use of sorcery and a bit of machinery.

What dawned upon him was a spacious hall enough to fill hundreds of people.

The stone walls were hard and dependable, as the floor was covered with smooth carpet that was designed for training. On the side, there were available cabinets for him to use, weights and lifts to ensure proper body training, and even a normal-sized bed for him to sleep on.

The place was illuminated with glowing stones that were the same that lit up Bard’s office.

All in all, it was fabulous.

"Neat!"

Cillian didn’t hesitate to bring what he had learned to test as he brought down his belongings to begin his training.
