Chapter 66: Yang Jin’s Nightmare (ii)
Professor Yang gritted his teeth and continued walking toward the far end of the dormitory.
As he walked, he kept muttering to himself,
"She has to go through this."
"She’s the daughter of the director of Qing Shan Psychiatric Hospital."
"If she can’t even endure this much, how will she inherit the hospital in the future?"
"Yang Jin... you’re my daughter."
"I believe in you."
"You can overcome all of this."
Step... Step...
Ignoring the cold stares of the three female roommates, Professor Yang climbed toward the dormitory’s rooftop window.
Buzz!
His body vanished through it once again.
Shen Yu watched his stubborn retreating figure, his expression icy.
He glanced at the three roommates and let out a scornful snort.
"So you enjoy bullying your roommate?"
"I hope that when you enter society..."
"...you experience workplace bullying yourselves."
Cough... Cough...
Blood seeped from Shen Yu’s mouth and nose.
Wiping it away, he hurried toward the rooftop window.
Looking at the opening suspended in midair, he gave a faint, bitter smile.
"So..."
"Back then..."
"...this was your only escape."
He stepped through the window.
Buzz!
Boom!
Lightning split the sky.
A massive white python slithered across the clouds, illuminating the familiar outline of Qing Shan Psychiatric Hospital.
Shen Yu froze.
"This place..."
"Is this the final memory?"
"So this..."
"...is where everything ends."
Professor Yang narrowed his eyes as he looked at the hospital before him.
Confusion slowly spread across his face.
"Why?"
"This hospital..."
"Our family’s pride..."
"Why would Yang Jin be afraid of it?"
Rustle... Rustle...
Suddenly, countless sheets of paper began falling from the sky.
It wasn’t rain.
The wind carried endless pages that fluttered through the air.
Each page contained a familiar sentence.
Look at other people’s children.
Everyone else can do it. Why can’t you?
You’re already this old. Can’t you be more sensible?
You can’t even handle something this simple?
You’re my child.
Don’t disgrace the family.
Everything will be better in the future.
How are you going to inherit the hospital like this?
The papers drifted endlessly beneath the cold light surrounding the hospital.
Every word carried crushing expectations.
Every sentence suffocated the air with despair.
Shen Yu narrowed his eyes and sighed quietly.
"What a tragic style of parenting."
Professor Yang immediately glared at him.
"What do you understand?"
"I’m doing this for her own good!"
"She’s my daughter!"
"Who understands how to educate her better than I do?"
"She’ll inherit Qing Shan Psychiatric Hospital."
"She was destined to be different."
"These hardships are things she must experience."
"Isn’t Yang Jin doing just fine now as the head nurse?"
"One day she’ll become the director."
"The future I’ve planned for her..."
"...can’t be wrong."
"It won’t be wrong!"
He suddenly pointed at Shen Yu.
"You worthless outsider."
"Just watch."
"This is the final memory."
"Once I pass through it..."
"...I’ll reach the other shore."
"I’ll leave this place."
"I’ll appear in your world."
"My education was right."
"It was right!"
Rustle... Rustle...
Professor Yang sprinted toward the hospital entrance.
But this time...
No exit awaited him.
Instead—
A long corridor stretched ahead.
Standing inside it were rows upon rows of grotesque figures.
Bandaged nurses.
Twisted doctors.
Distorted monsters.
Every one of them slowly turned their heads toward Professor Yang.
Then, in eerie unison—
"Professor Yang..."
"We’ve been waiting for you."
"Professor Yang..."
"You spend your life treating other people’s illnesses."
"So tell us..."
"Have you ever considered..."
"...that you might be the one who’s sick?"
Professor Yang instinctively took a step backward.
"W-What..."
"What do you want?"
He retreated again.
Then again.
After only three steps—
Crackle!
Violent electric arcs erupted across his entire body.
His skin blackened as if scorched alive.
"AAAAAH!"
His scream echoed through the hospital.
Before he could recover—
Long white bandages descended from above.
They wrapped around him instantly.
His body was lifted helplessly into the air.
Thud!
A monstrous doctor drove its massive stinger straight through Professor Yang’s chest.
His body hung limply in midair.
Behind the bloodstained bandages covering his face, his eyes widened with disbelief.
"Why...?"
"Why?"
"Why didn’t Yang Jin accept the life I gave her?"
"Wasn’t she doing well?"
"Why?"
"Why?!"
BOOM!
A bolt of white lightning exploded through the hospital ceiling.
And just like that—
Professor Yang, the sub-boss of this nightmare, died within his own story.
Standing before the entrance to Qing Shan Psychiatric Hospital, Shen Yu silently watched the endless rain of paper.
This time...
He didn’t walk forward.
Instead—
He took a single step backward.
Then another.
He kept retreating while staring at the suffocating hospital before him.
Crackle... Crackle...
With every backward step, electricity burst across his body.
The agonizing shocks charred his flesh.
His body bent forward from the unbearable pain.
Thud!
He collapsed onto the ground.
Even then...
He refused to stop.
Like a wounded animal, he crawled backward inch by inch.
The electric current continued burning him.
His body gradually turned black.
Still...
He kept retreating.
Until—
Buzz...
The hospital slowly became blurry.
The entire world dissolved into darkness.
Shen Yu found himself lying in an empty black void.
And before him...
A familiar figure quietly appeared.
"Long time no see, thief."
The familiar voice echoed through the darkness as the Ghost Bride, Lily, slowly came into view.
"Ah, wife! Where have you been all this time?" Shen Yu grinned. "Don’t tell me you’ve been hiding from your husband."
Lily’s face darkened instantly.
"Wife? Who’s your wife?" she snapped. "You stole my dowry!"
Shen Yu laughed.
"Come on, wife. We still have one more dungeon to clear before I can officially contract you."
Lily glared at him.
"What about that stupid nurse you’ve been fooling around with?"
Shen Yu blinked dramatically before breaking into another smile.
"Aww... is my wife getting jealous?"
"Who’s jealous?!" Lily shot back, her cheeks flushing with anger. "I know you haven’t used your Revival Strike this entire dungeon. Don’t tell me you’ve lost your revival ability."
A wicked smile spread across her face.
"That means... I can finally kill you."
Shen Yu sighed theatrically.
"Ah, wife... don’t tell me you still want to become a widow."
He spread his hands helplessly.
"Fine, fine. I’ll let you kill me a couple of times to vent your anger, okay?"
"You..."
Lily pointed at him with trembling fingers.
"You shameless thief!"
Unable to argue any further, the Ghost Bride turned away with a huff, her crimson wedding robes fluttering behind her as she tried to hide the embarrassment creeping onto her face.
