Chapter 61: New Key Item
Ho Yong paced back and forth restlessly.
"Luxian, what do you think? How do we get out of this place? And how can Shen Yu possibly act under someone else’s cognition? Living inside another person’s perception... this instance feels almost surreal."
"What do you mean?" Luxian asked.
"I’m not sure," Ho Yong admitted. "But I have a feeling Shen Yu already has some clues."
Luxian stared intently at Shen Yu’s first-person livestream, her eyes flickering with thought.
The next moment—
Bang!
Without a word, Shen Yu kicked the laboratory door wide open.
"Is he crazy?"
The heavy door slammed against the wall.
Inside the laboratory, a group of doctors and nurses seated behind iron desks slowly raised their heads, their cold gazes locking onto the intruder.
Spread across the desks were no medicines or treatment plans.
Instead, computer screens filled the room, each displaying fabricated patient records. The staff busily typed away, creating false diagnoses and treatment histories.
Seeing Shen Yu standing in the doorway, one doctor sneered.
"What? Tired of living?"
"You actually came here yourself?"
"Itching for another treatment?"
He showed no concern whatsoever that Shen Yu had witnessed everything. In his eyes, Shen Yu was nothing more than another brain-damaged patient ruined by electrotherapy.
Shen Yu’s face darkened.
His eyes slowly swept across the room before finally settling on a nervous intern standing in the corner. Beside him stood a nurse, quietly watching.
"Heh."
"You people call yourselves saviors."
"In reality, doctors and nurses like you are nothing but blood-sucking demons."
"Falsifying medical records is illegal."
"Aren’t you afraid that one day your own children will be treated the same way?"
His clear voice echoed throughout the laboratory.
Instantly, every pair of eyes turned toward him.
"Tsk."
"So one thorn survived treatment."
"Scum."
"Waste."
"How dare you slander us?"
"If we don’t educate you now, you’ll become nothing but a parasite on society."
"Parasite."
One doctor immediately stood up and glared directly at Shen Yu.
The word Parasite bulged across Shen Yu’s body like grotesque tumors.
Moments later, something writhed beneath his skin, as if countless insects had begun crawling inside him.
–73.
–74.
–75.
His pollution value continued to rise.
"Silly child."
"We’re doing this for your own good."
"If we don’t falsify your medical records, you’ll just go home, become addicted to games again, argue with your parents, and disrupt your classes."
"So this hospital..."
"...is your sanctuary."
The nurse smiled.
Through the reflection on the stainless-steel counter, Shen Yu watched his body shrink.
Twenty years old...
Fifteen...
Eight...
Until he became a tiny child less than a meter tall.
Yet Shen Yu didn’t retreat.
"A person’s worth isn’t for you to decide."
"His future isn’t yours to stain."
"Rebellion deserves guidance."
"Not torture."
"Not destruction."
His childish voice rang through the laboratory.
Clap. Clap.
As though thoroughly provoked, every member of the medical staff turned toward him with murderous eyes.
–80.
–81.
–82.
Pop! Pop! Pop!
Blood-filled blisters burst across Shen Yu’s tiny body.
Festering sores spread over his skin as blood seeped from cracked flesh.
Even so...
The corners of his broken mouth slowly curled upward into a mocking smile.
"Damn..."
"He’s still provoking them."
"Shen Yu’s buying time!"
"He’s already stalled them for over a minute!"
"Has he gone insane?"
"What is he trying to do?"
"Is he really willing to waste his pollution value like this?"
"You brat!"
"Who let you out?!"
Bzzzzt!
At that moment, the ward doctor burst into the laboratory, raising his electrified baton before swinging it toward the back of Shen Yu’s head.
But just before the strike landed—
Shen Yu wiped the blood from his eyes and smiled.
His gaze locked onto the unsuspecting intern.
Without anyone noticing, he quietly slipped a surgical blade into the office printer along with a stack of documents.
Whiiiiir!
Whiiiiir!
The printer let out a shrill, mechanical scream.
The intern looked over in confusion.
A puff of white smoke suddenly burst from the machine.
"Huh?"
The next second—
BOOM!!
The printer exploded into flames.
Fire erupted from inside the machine, sending burning paper flying in every direction.
Since the laboratory was packed with stacks of medical records and paper files, the flames spread with terrifying speed, swallowing the entire office in moments.
The entire laboratory was instantly engulfed in flames, thick black smoke billowing through the room.
"Damn it! Damn it! Damn it! You worthless brat! You useless trash! You’ve caused another disaster!"
"Run! Everyone, run!"
The medical staff, who had been focused entirely on Shen Yu, immediately came to their senses. Without a second thought, they abandoned the laboratory and rushed for the exit. Even the doctor who had been about to shock Shen Yu with the electric baton instinctively retreated from the growing inferno.
The flames roared louder, swallowing the room.
Instead of escaping, Shen Yu calmly stepped deeper into the laboratory.
He already understood.
The warehouse in the Third World had revealed the truth hidden beneath the illusion. If the warehouse preserved reality, then the laboratory would as well.
The clumsy intern had always been here.
All it had ever needed was a single spark.
Shen Yu had merely become the catalyst that allowed history to unfold once again.
Was it really because I appeared that the fire happened? That the clumsy intern’s mistake led to the tragedy on the third floor?
He shook his head.
No.
No.
No.
This tragedy had already happened long ago.
He wasn’t changing history.
He was simply witnessing—and reenacting—it.
Surrounded by flames, Shen Yu calmly searched through the burning file cabinets.
"Help! Somebody help!"
The clumsy intern was still desperately trying to extinguish the fire. But the more frantic he became, the more disastrous his actions were. In his panic, he grabbed a container of disinfectant and threw it onto the flames.
Unfortunately, it was alcohol.
BOOM!
The fire erupted violently, exploding across the laboratory. A wall of flames surged outward, scorching the floor until it turned pitch black once again.
The intern was swallowed by the blaze.
Shen Yu’s eyes narrowed.
Hidden inside the intern’s white coat was a thin case file.
Without hesitation, Shen Yu rushed forward. As the intern collapsed onto the floor, kicking weakly in agony, Shen Yu swiftly pulled the case file from inside his coat.
Ding.
A notification sounded in his ears.
