Chapter 5910: Chapter 4931: There’s No Batman Here (18)
Although the distance is a bit far, and there were quite a few monsters on the way, these small monsters are simply no match for Polaris. A wave of magnetic storm turns them to ashes.
Pamela talked to them about fighting the boss. Polaris thought for a moment and said, "You shouldn’t charge in so impulsively. If you find it’s the boss, you should mark the location on the map and call people to fight together."
"That’s not like you," Harry said, somewhat surprised. "I thought you’d want to charge in directly..."
"Mutants excel at gang fights," Polaris said. "Otherwise, why do the X-Men and the Mutant Brotherhood always go everywhere as a team? We’re not stupid; if we’re alone, we might be killed..."
"Little Lorna." Charles spoke up, somewhat helplessly.
"Ahem." Polaris cleared her throat and said, "There’s no point in talking morality with monsters. We should gather all superpower users from the entire map and directly hammer these bosses underground."
"Regional bosses might be handled like that," Pamela said, "But I suspect the Four Kings aren’t that simple and very likely have a mandatory instant kill mechanism. Without mission investigations, you might be instantly killed."
"It’s not that exaggerated, right? What can instantly kill a magnetic field?"
"That depends on Brainiac’s settings," Pamela said. "If it’s set as a Death Messenger, then even a magnetic field can’t avoid it. After all, you also have ’no more mutants.’"
Polaris shivered and said, "We don’t have that in our cosmos. Wanda is really good-natured. Sometimes I can’t stand those little demons, but she’s always very patient."
"It’s just a pity she got married too young," Pamela added.
"Who’s in your team?" Arkham Knight asked.
Pamela gave him a brief introduction and then said, "It’s perfect timing that you came, just filling the gap of Jason having classes and not returning."
Arkham Knight said nothing again, but everyone knew this cosmos tends to be silent, without which the plot wouldn’t last this long.
Soon they returned to Viscount Manor. Bringing newcomers back, everyone had to show some expression, but the fighting plants hadn’t been planted, and even if planted, they weren’t easy to eat, so they made some simple meals while recovering their physical strength and discussing.
"What’s the situation in the West District," Polaris asked somewhat curiously, "It seems it’s always raining there. When we passed by, it felt a bit eerie, so we didn’t go in."
"We haven’t gone there either," Tim said, "But the West District has Gotham University, so the monsters there must be hard to fight."
"Why?" Polaris asked, somewhat curiously.
"I even suspect..." Tim dragged out a long sound, then said, "No, nothing. I think what you said about gathering to fight the bosses is a good plan, why don’t we find a boss to try?"
Another group’s Robin suspected there was a regional boss in the cemetery. Charles timely spoke up: "When they went to investigate the case of missing corpses, they were surrounded, but Shiller rescued them. They found a mutated monster suspected to be a regional boss underground in the cemetery, but due to poor equipment, they haven’t had a chance to fight it yet."
Everyone opened the map and looked at the cemetery’s location. After some research, Ted said, "I think we can go and take a look, and also meet up with other teams in the South District."
Everyone quickly drew up a rough plan. Meanwhile, Charles also informed Red Robin and Damian, who were wandering around the cemetery. Knowing that support was coming, they breathed a sigh of relief.
The distance was a bit far from their base, and if they returned to prepare fully before fighting, even if they won, it would be a waste of time, especially if nothing good dropped. However, if there were other groups helping, no matter what, the mission would surely be completed, and getting the mission reward effortlessly would be nice.
And this time the support line-up is especially luxurious. Pamela had just finished fighting a boss and needed rest, but basically everyone else came: Polaris, Ted, Lilith, and other superpower users also came.
Seeing this big group, Red Robin couldn’t help but smile. Especially Polaris. So, this mini Magneto hasn’t had her abilities restricted and could toss Earth over her shoulder whenever, but she’s still participating in the game together?
Actually, calling Polaris a mini Magneto isn’t quite precise, because she’s completely unlike Magneto. Magneto plays with basic power, but Polaris particularly loves electromagnetism; her moves are all electromagnetic cannons and such. Not as profound as basic power but visually exhilarating.
"The monster is down here." Red Robin pointed to a sewer entrance. Ted glanced at Polaris and said, "It’s inconvenient to fight below; I’ll go down and lure the monster up."
He transformed into a holographic projection and jumped down. Not long after, a loud bang was heard as the ground around the sewer entrance exploded, and a more than three-meter-high giant corpse jumped out, evidently the cemetery’s regional boss.
Everyone scattered, each starting to exert their strengths. Don’t underestimate Polaris’ strong destructive power, but whether it’s the electromagnetic cannon or electromagnetic field, they require aiming. Moreover, this giant corpse is particularly nimble and grabs soft targets, rushing straight at the unarmed Red Robin.
Red Robin immediately dodged, but did not expect the creature’s speed to be faster than he thought. Just as the giant corpse was about to scratch his shoulder, Ted instantaneously flashed over, generating a holographic shield, which although blocked the attack, sent him flying.
"Brainiac!" Ted shouted, "Did you fill in the wrong value?! This creature’s strength is almost akin to Spider Man!"
"What?" Polaris perked up at this, "Let me try!"
She instantly transformed into a ball of electric light, rushing towards the giant corpse, purposely revealing her form in front of the monster and using an electromagnetic shield to protect herself, only to be sent flying the next second.
"Wow, indeed it’s Spider Man," Polaris said, "But unfortunately, its body size is a bit big. If it were as agile and nimble as Spider Man, it would be troublesome."
Although the giant corpse had a fast sprint speed, its raise-hands action had a long wind-up. Aside from charging forward with a hand to smash people, it didn’t have any other tricks. Polaris seized the moment and a shot from the Super Electromagnetic Cannon pierced through its chest, followed by an electromagnetic storm that shredded the entire monster into pieces.
"Phew." Polaris exhaled lightly, seemingly thinking the intensity wasn’t enough, not quite satisfying.
"This won’t do," Damian said, "It feels like it fell down before I used my full strength."
"Polaris is too strong," Red Robin said, "If she goes all out, she could probably stir up an electromagnetic storm that covers the whole of Gotham, what game would the monster play then?"
Just as they were about to inspect the corpse, Lilith suddenly spoke up: "No, don’t go over there!"
Lilith covered her head with her hands: "Black... sludge... Drowned whispering... don’t go over there!!"
The two Robins here weren’t very familiar with Lilith, but Ted was quite familiar with his classmate. He shouted: "Lilith can make predictions! There might be danger coming up, you all back away quickly!"
Red Robin and Damian were also very cautious. Hearing this, they immediately dodged away. The next moment, the already torn to pieces and charred monster’s remains suddenly began surging with black sludge.
Some things slowly wrapped around him, reconstructing the entire monster into a twisted form, with more sludge oozing from its mouth and nose.
"Symbiont?" Polaris said with a bit of surprise, "But it seems like..."
"Don’t look at it." Charles suddenly said coldly.
Polaris was used to Charles’ orders. Whatever the Professor said, her instinctive response was to comply. As soon as Charles finished speaking, Polaris immediately turned her head away.
However, the others weren’t quite used to cooperating with Charles, and since Charles’ command wasn’t very direct, many on the scene didn’t react. As a result, the next second, the sludge suddenly made the monster extremely twisted, whispers murmuring by their ears, everyone felt like their brain was being hammered, screaming miserably.
"Lorna, take them away." Charles said, "Quick!"
Polaris immediately realized what was happening, she used a magnetic chain to grab everyone and turned to run outside. But the sludge was spreading along the way, forcing Polaris to rise into the air.
"What is this thing???"
"It came running from over by the East District," Charles said, "Shiller had fought it, thought it was eliminated, but didn’t expect it could resurrect."
Polaris gasped, anything that could escape Shiller’s grasp must not be simple. She also lost the desire to fight, quickly took everyone and ran away.
Rushing back to Viscount Manor in record time, Tim looked in shock at the people lying on the ground: "Oh my, you didn’t run into the Four Kings, did you?!"
"It was the head of a region from the East District that came over," Charles said, "Probably related to the Outer God. The attack was too sudden, the mental guard didn’t fully hold up."
Tim grimaced, and together with Dick and Cassandra, placed everyone on the couch. They were all unconscious. However, thanks to Charles’ spiritual protection, no one was truly contaminated. When they woke up, although a bit pale, their minds were relatively clear.
"Oh god," Red Robin marveled, "I just knew it wouldn’t be that simple."
Just when they thought the monster’s strength was too low before Polaris, the Outer God arrived as expected. This thing is truly troublesome, having no wind-up for its mental attacks, even glancing at it is too much.
As the few people gradually woke up, all clutching their heads and grimacing in pain. Tim and Dick prepared ice packs and towels for them. While resting on the couch, Charles briefed them about the monster’s background.
This is the "Drowned" from the East District Tail Alley, Shiller had blasted it apart with Diana’s blessing back then. But this thing evidently isn’t dead, after being shattered, it would resurrect elsewhere, without proper methods of expulsion, it would resurrect infinitely.
Polaris groaned in frustration: "Doesn’t that mean I can’t kill it either? What exactly does it take to expel this thing?"
"A full investigation mission is needed," Brainiac gave a reminder, "There is a series of missions in the East District, completing them all would grant all the key items for expulsion. Of course, if you’re strong enough, you could directly destroy it."
"Wait." Tim and Red Robin almost spoke simultaneously. They both thought of the same thing. "It choosing that corpse to resurrect couldn’t be a coincidence, right?"
"It fears the light," Charles said, "That monster happened to be underground, and it was a corpse. The Drowned might have already been lurking in its body for a long time."
"It’s starting to sound more and more like a symbiont," Polaris said, "We need to seriously research how to solve this thing, or else when it comes knocking, we won’t stand a chance. By the way, where’s Jason?"
"He went to the West District," Charles said, "At Gotham University, there’s a cold storage door that needs his help to open."
"What kind of door requires only him to open?" Polaris was slightly puzzled.
"He also has a symbiont," Charles said, "That cold storage door is too difficult to open, some extraordinary means are needed to obtain the items inside."
Polaris suddenly understood, Arkham had actually mentioned this to her, he indeed had a symbiont in his body, apparently called the ’Red Bee’."
