Chapter 479: 481 Earthquake (7)_1

Che Huan looked at them, overwhelmed with emotion, "What about you guys?"

"The rain has added quite a bit of difficulty to the rescue work, we’re going over to help."

"..."

This was the first time Che Huan truly looked at them and suddenly felt that they seemed much taller. She had always seen them as a bunch of dandies, hardly different from Gu Jizhou!

How terribly wrong she had been!

She turned to Qin Moting and the little one, with Qin Moting being advanced in years and the little one still young, and she couldn’t locate him right away. "You two rest here for now, I’ll go see if there’s anything I can help with."

Just then, a strong aftershock hit, the tremor was very intense, and the tent that had just been set up started to sway, making a whooshing noise.

Qin Moting pushed Che Huan into the tent, picked up the little one, followed her in, lifted the curtain, and looked towards Shen You and the others, "Stay in the tent to avoid the rain, we’ll talk after the aftershocks pass."

Shen You and Yu Zimu, along with others, squeezed into the scarce tents, trying to make phone calls, only to discover the signal had already been cut off.

Che Huan, Qin Moting, and the little one were in another tent, unable to get through on their phones either.

A few minutes later, the shaking from the aftershocks still lingered for a long time, and the atmosphere suddenly tensed up.

The little one snuggled tightly into Che Huan’s arms, while the group leader sat at the entrance of the tent, guarding them, wagging his tail anxiously.

The aftershocks became more frequent, the rain heavier, casting a pall of unease over the entire Fangli Village.

Che Huan sat in the tent, listening to the rain outside, her heartbeat growing more erratic, wondering where he was at that moment.

The road to Fangli Village was pitted and rough, progressively becoming more perilous. On one side lay a river valley dozens of meters deep, and on the other, a cliff with a negative slope. The rescue convoy moved hesitantly along what seemed like a tunnel that had been sliced in half.

Huo Jinnan sat at the wheel, driving the vehicle, his expression growing darker.

Huo Bei was driving ahead of Huo Jinnan, noting the increasingly urgent rain and picking up the walkie-talkie, "Sir, should we continue forward?"

Huo Jinnan looked ahead, his gaze as steady as ever, "Forward."

Huo Bei didn’t make another sound, quietly driving on. Whatever decision the sir made, he would follow.

Not much farther on, a mudslide occurred on the road ahead. The falling pebbles pattered on the roof of the car, striking a chord in the hearts of everyone in the rescue team.

The convoy had just stopped when a huge boulder tumbled down, making a thunderous noise, smashing the foremost car into scrap metal. Another vehicle swerved to avoid the falling rocks, half of it plunging into the valley, immediately intensifying the tension.

Behind the rescue convoy, the supply transport, ambulances, emergency vehicles, and volunteer cars all came to a halt. Suddenly, the air grew thick with the scent of death, becoming denser and more oppressive, suffocating the entire team.

Huo Jinnan had just gotten out of the car when Huo Bei’s voice came through the walkie-talkie, "Sir!"

Huo Jinnan didn’t respond, but resolutely stepped into the mud to check the terrain.

Huo Bei hurried out of his car, opened an umbrella, and walked up to him.

Huo Jinnan reached out, took the umbrella, took a glance at it, then flung it into the valley. He lit a cigarette, intending to take a puff, but the large raindrops quickly extinguished the burning cigarette between his fingers.

He looked down at it for a moment, then turned to face the rescuers who had disembarked, his voice calm and firm, "Are you scared?"

"Not scared!"

Looking at him, the soldiers’ hearts seemed to ignite. Their voices were strong and resonant, their spirit undaunted, like a siren cutting through the valley.
