Huo Jinnan said he knew, "You should rest early."
After leaving the meeting room, Huo Jinnan finished a cigarette and walked to the end of the corridor. He blended into the night in his black suit and made a call to Huo Qichang, his voice grave as he asked, "You’ve known about my mom’s condition for a while now, haven’t you?"
Upon hearing Huo Qichang’s affirmative reply, Huo Jinnan’s gaze grew darker, "Haven’t found a suitable heart?"
Hearing that they had been searching, his brows knitted together, "Have you found one?"
—"Not yet."
Huo Jinnan pinched out the cigarette butt, his eyes ink-dark and almost reaching freezing point, "Is it that you haven’t found one, or are you planning to keep it to bargain with me?"
Angry voices came from the receiver, "Jinnan!"
"Remember to call me if you find one."
Huo Jinnan hung up the phone and looked towards the thick night sky. The summer heat came in waves, beating on his face, yet he couldn’t feel a trace of warmth.
He smoked a cigarette and returned to the ward. Zhong Qin had just gone to sleep, and the little fella was also tired, sleeping soundly on the sofa.
He glanced at Huo Jinxue, Huo Jinbei, and Che Huan, who were sitting in the visiting area, "I’ll take you back, it’s enough for me to stay here alone tonight."
Too many people would overcrowd the space. Huo Jinxue and Huo Jinbei nodded their heads, "Then, elder brother, we will come to take shifts tomorrow."
Huo Jinnan hummed in response and looked at Che Huan.
Che Huan stood up.
Huo Jinnan didn’t say anything more and bent down to pick up the little fella.
Everyone followed him out of the ward and to the hospital entrance. Seeing Huo Jinxue trying to sit in the passenger seat, Huo Jinnan glanced over, "Sit in the back."
He carried the little fella into the back and secured him with the seatbelt, then looked at Huo Jinxue, who had gotten into the back, "Watch him."
Huo Jinxue hummed in acknowledgment, glancing at Che Huan. It appeared the passenger seat would be the sister-in-law’s exclusive spot from now on.
Huo Jinnan closed the door and turned to Che Huan, who was still standing outside the car, "Why aren’t you getting in?"
Che Huan, recalling how he had sent Jinxue to the back from the passenger seat, felt it awkward to take the passenger seat herself, "I’ll also stay overnight. I need to take care of my mom."
"Staying up is not good."
Huo Jinnan said in a low voice and walked over, opened the passenger door, pressed down on Che Huan’s shoulder, and pushed her into the car.
Che Huan sat down and quickly fastened her seatbelt.
Huo Jinnan watched her with downcast eyes until she had secured her seatbelt before he closed the door and got into the driver’s seat.
By the time they arrived at Nanyuan Villa, it was already past two in the morning, and the little fella was fast asleep.
Huo Jinnan carried him out of the car, with Che Huan following behind. Upon entering, they were greeted by Uncle Lu and Auntie Rong.
Auntie Rong spoke softly, "Sir, the third young master, miss, Miss Che."
Huo Jinnan glanced around, "Have the third young master and miss’ rooms been prepared?"
Auntie Rong replied, "They have been prepared as per your instructions, sir."
Huo Jinnan hummed in acknowledgment, "Take them to rest."
As his voice fell, he looked in Che Huan’s direction, "You’ll sleep in my room."
Before Che Huan could even respond, Huo Jinnan had already turned and carried the little fella upstairs; she could only follow.
Huo Jinnan placed the little fella back in his own bedroom and then turned to look at Che Huan.
Che Huan thought about how they were not officially married yet, and with Jinxue and Jinbei around, it might not be appropriate for her to stay in his room.
Biting her lip, she softly said, "Maybe I should stay with Xiaowei."
Huo Jinnan remained silent, but he grasped her wrist firmly and led her out.
Once at his room, Huo Jinnan pushed the door open, pulled Che Huan inside, and after a brief glance around, suddenly lifted her up and tossed her horizontally onto the bed.
