Chapter 857: Chapter 900: Had a Child?
The color of the scar was already very, very faint. If you didn’t look closely, you couldn’t see it with the naked eye anymore. But when you touched it with your hand, you could still feel it very clearly.
It was just that this scar happened to be at the very bottom of her lower abdomen, and no matter how you looked at it, it looked exactly like a C-section scar.
If it really was a C-section scar, then why had she never seen her child? And besides, she had never once heard Mu Rufeng mention that they had a child!
What on earth was going on?
Full of questions, Ye Anxin walked out of the bathroom in the clothes she had just changed into and asked Mu Rufeng blankly, "I... why is there a scar on my stomach? It looks like a C-section scar! If it really was left by a C-section, then where is our child?"
Hearing Ye Anxin’s words, Mu Rufeng’s face darkened. He lowered his head and deliberately put on a sad look. "Xiaoman, I originally thought that since you hit your head this time, you’d forget the unhappy things from the past. I didn’t expect you to still see that scar. You’re right, that scar really was left by a C-section."
Before Ye Anxin could feel happy, she heard Mu Rufeng continue, "It’s just that... it’s just that the baby couldn’t be saved."
At that, Ye Anxin grabbed Mu Rufeng’s arm excitedly. "The baby couldn’t be saved? How could that be? Why would that happen? How could the baby not be saved?"
"More than two years ago, you really were pregnant with our child. But when you were seven months pregnant, you were suddenly in a car accident and were hemorrhaging badly. The doctor said the baby was already 28 weeks, that if they took the baby out, it could survive. If they didn’t take the baby out, neither you nor the baby could be saved. So I signed and let the doctors take the baby out. I thought, since the doctor said the baby could live, there definitely wouldn’t be a problem. But who knew, who knew that although they took the baby out, after crying just once, the baby stopped breathing and died. It was my fault, I let you down, I couldn’t protect you and the baby, that’s why you ended up being hit by that car. Otherwise, the baby would already be two and a half years old this year." As he spoke, Mu Rufeng actually started crying, his tears falling one by one onto the cold ceramic floor.
After hearing the whole story, Ye Anxin only felt her vision go black. Her body stumbled, and she abruptly took two steps back. Her eyes widened in disbelief. "How could this happen? Why would it be like this?"
"Xiaoman, I know you’re heartbroken. Because of the baby, you’ve been depressed and withdrawn for the past two and a half years. But the baby is already gone. I really don’t want you to keep drowning in the pain of losing the child. We’re still young. One day, the baby will come back to us. I originally thought that after this injury, you’d forget this unhappy past. I didn’t expect... didn’t expect...!" At this point, Mu Rufeng suddenly gripped both of Ye Anxin’s hands tightly. His face was tense, his voice full of distress. "Xiaoman, let this matter stay in the past. Let’s not think about it anymore. We’re still young, we have plenty of chances. One day we will have a child of our own."
Looking at the sincerity in Mu Rufeng’s expression, Ye Anxin didn’t doubt his words at all. Instead, she asked in puzzlement, "But it’s been two and a half years. Why haven’t I gotten pregnant?"
Even she didn’t know why, but somewhere deep in her memory, she always felt that she should be a mother. She felt like she had one or two adorable children. Yet it also felt like she didn’t. Even she couldn’t figure out whether she did or not.
Maybe, just like Mu Rufeng said, because of losing the child she was too overwhelmed by grief, and that’s why she was having these illusions.
Smiling, Mu Rufeng explained, "The doctor said that if you want to get pregnant, you have to relax and not put pressure on yourself. These past two and a half years, you’ve just been too hard on yourself, so you haven’t been able to conceive. This time, after you’ve fully recovered, I’ll take you out to have some fun, help you unwind, let you forget the unhappy things from the past and relax. I believe we’ll have our own child very soon."
"Okay." Ye Anxin nodded obediently. From beginning to end, she didn’t have the slightest doubt about what Mu Rufeng said.
Seeing that Ye Anxin completely believed what he’d told her, Mu Rufeng secretly let out a sigh of relief. On his face, though, he remained calm and composed. "You’ve changed your clothes, let’s go. I’ll take you out to eat."
"Okay." Ye Anxin nodded and turned to walk toward the door.
Mu Rufeng quickly caught up and took her hand.
The moment Mu Rufeng’s hand closed around hers, Ye Anxin visibly froze. She stopped walking and turned her head to look at their tightly clasped hands.
Clearly the man holding her hand was her husband, but she instinctively resisted his touch. She even felt repulsed.
For a second, she almost impulsively shook his hand off. But in the end, she held back.
Seeing Ye Anxin staring at their tightly clasped hands without moving, Mu Rufeng grinned and asked in puzzlement, "What’s wrong? Why aren’t you walking?"
"It’s nothing." Ye Anxin forced a smile and used her other free hand to open the door.
When they walked out hand in hand, Mu’s mother was sitting on the sofa watching TV.
When she saw them come out, she couldn’t help rolling her eyes and snapped, "You finally woke up, finally willing to come out! I’m about to starve to death waiting for you. If I’d known it would take this long, I should’ve just gone out to eat by myself and not waited for you."
The meaning in Mu’s mother’s words was obvious—she was blaming Ye Anxin for being lazy, sleeping the whole afternoon and making her and Mu Rufeng wait on her alone.
Hearing Mu’s mother’s words, Ye Anxin blushed with embarrassment. "Mom, I’m sorry to have kept you waiting."
Seeing Ye Anxin being scolded, Mu Rufeng hurriedly said in a distressed tone, "Mom, how can you say that? You know there’s a sedative component in Xiaoman’s medicine that makes her drowsy. Besides, she just had a head injury. It’s normal for her to need sleep."
Realizing that the son she had raised for thirty years was once again standing up to her for Ye Anxin, Mu’s mother’s face instantly turned very ugly.
Noticing her expression change, Ye Anxin quickly tugged lightly at the hand that Mu Rufeng was holding.
Understanding what Ye Anxin meant, Mu Rufeng sighed helplessly and quickly put on a smile. "Alright, Mom, don’t be mad. Let’s hurry down and get something to eat, or you really will starve."
Mu’s mother stood up and walked over to Mu Rufeng’s side. "Sure enough, once a man gets a wife, he forgets his mother. Now all your ******** is on your daughter-in-law. In your eyes, this old thing like me is just extra." With that, she shot the "culprit" Ye Anxin a fierce glare, grabbed her bag, and left without looking back.
Afraid that Ye Anxin would overthink it, Mu Rufeng hurriedly comforted her. "Xiaoman, Mom is just like that—she always has to have the last word, but she’s not a bad person. Don’t take what she says to heart."
