Unable to reach Mu Beiting by phone, Ye Anxin had no choice but to call Pete!
The call went through and was answered after two rings, "Madam, it’s late, is there something the matter?"
Hearing Pete’s hoarse voice on the other end, Ye Anxin apologized, "Brother Pete, I’m so sorry for calling so late and disturbing your rest! But I’m really worried and have no choice, so I’m calling you!"
Pete reassured her, "It’s alright, what’s happened to make you so anxious?"
Ye Anxin quickly asked, "Brother Pete, do you know where Uncle is having an engagement tonight? Did you go with him?"
Upon hearing this, Pete frowned and said in confusion, "Engagement? There wasn’t any tonight! The President left the office at 5:30! Didn’t he go home?"
Hearing Pete’s words, Ye Anxin was utterly stunned, "No engagements tonight?"
Pete sensed trouble upon hearing Ye Anxin’s words and quickly comforted her, "Madam, don’t worry. Besides managing Mu Group, the President has responsibilities with his own company to handle! I’m an employee of Mu Group, and at times when it’s about his own company, he doesn’t take me along! So maybe he went to manage affairs of his own company after finishing with Mu Group’s matters today! Also, isn’t he managing Nanshang Group now? With so much going on, he doesn’t report his whereabouts to me!"
"Oh, you’re right! Maybe I’m overthinking it! Uncle is already busy enough, I shouldn’t add to his worries!" As Ye Anxin spoke, she repeatedly comforted herself mentally.
Besides Mu Group, Uncle had his own company, she knew that! That company was something Uncle established during his training abroad before taking over Mu Group!
However, usually apart from visiting Mu Group, she barely ever visited Uncle’s own company, and gradually she forgot Uncle owned his own company!
Pete consoled her, "Madam, don’t overthink it, rest early. The President is prudent with his work, surely if he hasn’t returned yet, he’s caught up in tasks! If he finds out you’re worrying, he’ll be concerned!"
"I understand! Sorry for bothering you! You should rest early too!" Saying this, she wished Pete goodnight before hanging up the phone.
Ye Anxin lay in bed holding her phone, continuously comforting herself, urging herself to sleep, insisting Uncle’s absence was nothing serious! However, tossing and turning in bed, she couldn’t sleep!
Without Uncle’s embrace, she felt something missing! Moreover, this was the first time Uncle had left without informing her! Uncle was always someone who wouldn’t make her worry!
To help herself sleep, Ye Anxin turned off the lights in the room and closed her eyes, forcing herself to sleep!
Ye Anxin lay like this for a long time! Just as she was about to drift into a blur of sleep, a sudden faint sound of footsteps came from outside the door.
The footsteps were so familiar to her! Upon hearing them, her hard-earned sleepy feeling vanished instantly, waking her completely, as she sat up abruptly.
As she sat up, the door to the room was gently twisted open from the outside!
Mu Beiting pushed open the door, the light spilling in from outside illuminating him, his eagle-like sharp eyes clearly seeing Ye Anxin sitting on the bed; a momentary pause in his tall stature, then he closed the door behind him, tiptoeing to the bed to sit down, gently patting Ye Anxin’s head, asking softly, "Why aren’t you asleep at this hour?"
Ye Anxin pouted, teased, "Without Uncle’s embrace, I can’t sleep!"
Mu Beiting apologetically said, "I’m sorry, things were busy today, so I returned late!"
Ye Anxin rubbed her sleepy eyes, casually replied, "It’s alright, I know Uncle’s busy! It’s so late now, Uncle should bathe and sleep! There’s a morning run tomorrow!"
"Alright! You get some sleep too!" Saying so, he pressed Ye Anxin’s nape, pulling her head towards him, planting a kiss on her forehead with his thin lips.
Ye Anxin nodded obediently, lay back on the bed, and said in a raspy and firm tone, "I’ll wait for Uncle to come out to sleep together!"
"Okay!" Mu Beiting nodded, got up, leaned in to stamp another kiss on her forehead, then headed to the washroom.
Concerned that Ye Anxin might not adjust well to the lighting, Mu Beiting kept the lights off the entire time, relying on instincts to find the washroom, closing its door and then turning the lights on!
The washroom was made of transparent glass, and as its light was switched on, the light seeped through the glass, brightening the entire room considerably.
Ye Anxin lay in bed, blinking her sleepy eyes, staring dazedly at the imposing figure in the washroom!
Concerned that Ye Anxin might wait too long, Mu Beiting bathed particularly quickly this time, emerging from the washroom in just five minutes!
With a towel wrapped around his lower body, upon exiting the washroom, he immediately noticed Ye Anxin lying on the bed, staring at him absent-mindedly!
Mu Beiting’s thin lips curled slightly into an attractive arc, as he wiped off the moisture from his hair with a dry towel, then took large strides to the bed, bent to gaze at Ye Anxin, and said softly, "If you’re tired, rest early! Don’t strain yourself!"
Ye Anxin, hugging the blanket, gently asked, "Uncle, I called you when I saw you hadn’t returned by dawn, but your phone was switched off!"
Mu Beiting rubbed Ye Anxin’s head with his free hand, "Maybe it was dead and turned off! Next time I’m late, don’t call me or wait up, rest early! Once I’m done with tasks, I’ll come home! It’s alright!"
Ye Anxin pouted, discontentedly said, "But, I’m worried about you! You haven’t returned so late in ages!"
Since their relationship deepened, Uncle hardly ever returned this late! Even occasionally late, he would inform! Normally, Uncle would do work at home!
He would always lull her to sleep first, then quietly rise alone to handle unfinished work in the study.
She discovered this one time when she woke up to use the bathroom in the night, didn’t see Uncle around, went to look for him, noticed the study door was ajar, and the light was on! She peeked through the gap and saw Uncle working diligently inside.
