Chapter 2539: Selena’s Audience With the Celestial Emperor
"Why are you staying quiet? You’re the one who brought me here, you know?" Shiva remarked when Yuan refused to explain anything to her.
Yuan sighed and finally spoke, "I know, but this turned out to be much more complicated than I thought."
Shiva fell silent before turning to look at the massive gates once again, her eyes narrowed slightly. She was certain that there was no Eternal sealed behind them, but Yuan had no reason to lie either.
’He started acting suspiciously after learning our language... What kind of technique did he acquire from whatever is behind the gates?’ she wondered inwardly.
Then, she focused on the gates themselves, as she’d only been paying attention to the inscriptions thus far.
’These gates...!’ Shiva’s eyes widened when she realized something after paying closer attention to the gates—or more specifically, the materials they were made of.
Yuan raised an eyebrow when Shiva suddenly started approaching the gates, even pressing her palm against it.
’As I thought, these gates aren’t meant to keep Eternals sealed inside but to hide whatever is inside from us!’
The materials used to craft the gates were a rare material that not only completely blocked their senses but was also especially durable against their power: Eternal Essence!
However, Shiva wasn’t completely certain, so she decided to test it out herself.
After gathering a tiny amount of Eternal Essence in her fist, she threw a punch at it.
"What are you—"
BOOM!
When Shiva’s fists collided with the gates, her Eternal Essence rippled throughout them before scattering like water being dropped on a surface covered in water-repellent substances.
"What are you doing?" Yuan asked with a puzzled look on his face.
Shiva turned to look at him and calmly replied, "I have an idea why you’re hesitant about telling me what you know."
"You do? Let’s hear it."
"I don’t feel like it," Shiva shrugged before turning around and walking towards the exit. "I’ll be waiting for you outside. Take your time in here."
"What do you mean?"
"You’re going to open the gates and retrieve whatever is inside, right? I doubt you’ll want me around when you do that, so I’ll wait outside," she calmly said before returning control to Mu Xuelian, who quickly left the cavern, leaving Yuan alone.
"..."
Once he was alone, Yuan turned to stare at the gates.
Although he was alone in the cavern, it did not mean he was completely alone, as Prime Eternal Hilla could be watching him at this very moment.
After some thought, Yuan decided to open the gates anyway.
’Even if she is watching, she probably won’t be able to see inside once I close the doors behind me.’
With that thought in mind, Yuan approached the gates, placed his hands on the gates, and started mumbling unknown words that were not of the human language.
Moments later, the gates that had been sealed for an unknown amount of time started to slowly creak open.
However, the gates opened only a small crack, just large enough for Yuan to enter.
After taking a deep breath, Yuan took a step forward and entered the gates, which automatically closed behind him.
Meanwhile, somewhere in the Ninth Heaven, Selena entered the Celestial Palace while being surrounded by the entire Heaven’s Mandate—all 13 squads.
Despite having basically the entire army present, nobody there felt safe around Selena, a monster with a cultivation level beyond that of a Cultivation God.
"So, how long do you plan on making me wait, Emperor of the Nine Heavens?" Selena asked aloud after waiting for some time outside the Celestial Emperor’s audience room.
"Excuse me for the delay, Absolute Ruler."
The Celestial Emperor’s voice resounded, and the doors to the room opened the following moment.
Selena calmly walked inside, followed by the generals of Heaven’s Mandate.
At the far end of the room sat the Celestial Emperor, with a masked figure standing silently beside him.
Selena stopped before the raised platform and, without even lifting her head to look at the Celestial Emperor, spoke in an annoyed voice. "Not only did you make me wait, but you even dared to seat yourself above me, forcing me to look up at you?"
Before the Celestial Emperor could respond, Selena continued in a domineering tone, "But since you are not accustomed to being in the presence of someone above you, I will not blame you for this mistake. I will even give you a chance to correct it."
"!!!"
The generals of Heaven’s Mandate widened their eyes in shock at Selena’s bold words. Under normal circumstances, they would have immediately condemned such blasphemy. However, knowing her identity and strength, none of them dared to utter a word. Their mouths opened in disbelief, only to close again a moment later.
The Celestial Emperor remained silent for a moment before rising from his seat and descending the platform until he stood on the same level as Selena.
"You are right. I apologize if my habits have offended you in any way, Absolute Ruler."
A cold smile tugged at Selena’s lips as she replied, "I understand that you are wary of me. You even went to such lengths to create these defensive formations, but they are nothing more than a waste of resources. If I wished to, I could kill everyone here with ease."
Then, she took a step toward the Celestial Emperor. In the next moment, the invisible formation between them shattered like fragile glass.
"?!?!"
Seeing this, everyone present flinched, subconsciously reaching for their weapons.
However, the Celestial Emperor quickly raised his hand and spoke, "Stand down."
Once the generals withdrew their hands, the Celestial Emperor continued, "You may all leave. I wish to speak with the Absolute Ruler alone."
"W-We cannot do that, Your Majesty!"
The Celestial Emperor glared at them and said, "As she has already stated, if she wished to harm me, none of you would be able to stop her. Therefore, it makes no difference whether you remain here or not. I will not repeat myself."
After a moment of silence, the generals reluctantly left the room, leaving Selena, the Celestial Emperor, and the masked man in the room alone.
