Chapter 1378: Chapter 622: The Tide of Enlightenment, Judgment of All Beings
The "Great Leiyin Temple Buddhism Simplified Meaning" is used for elementary school children, and for the students in the classroom, these three doctrines are somewhat challenging.
However, Pharmacist Bodhisattva is a True Immortal of Leiyin Temple, with profound understanding of Buddhist principles, and most of these doctrines originate from Leiyin Buddhism, so for him, there are no barriers.
Therefore, upon hearing, he immediately realized the danger within.
"This is a distortion of the Ancestor Master’s Buddhist Law!"
Cheng Yun glanced at him, smiled without arguing, and simply said three words: "You are afraid."
"..."
For a moment, Pharmacist Bodhisattva was at a loss, stunned for several breaths before answering with difficulty: "Doesn’t Maitreya consider the future when doing this?"
"Whose future are you referring to? His, yours, mine, or the people of the West Continent?"
Pharmacist Bodhisattva pursed his lips, the anger on his face gradually dissipating, eventually turning into silence.
Cheng Yun focused on the "Great Leiyin Temple Buddhism Simplified Meaning" in the teacher’s hand, thinking it’s not quite suitable as an enlightenment textbook, as it’s still a bit profound.
But there’s no choice; the Great Leiyin Temple seeks "brainwashing" in the short term.
These three doctrines are the essence of the Leiyin Temple’s annotated Buddhist Scriptures.
In simple terms, they all advocate for dependent origination and emptiness, as Leiyin Temple and Great Leiyin Temple have embarked on different paths.
Leiyin Temple abandons and even detests impermanence, meaning they wish to use Divine Dao, Way of Cause and Effect, and Dharma Image to ensure that the Leiyin lineage is passed down stably through generations.
The past, present, and future, who will attain enlightenment, have all been planned, under their control.
Zheng Fa once felt that Thunder Sound Buddha’s Way of Cause and Effect was too difficult, too many variables, impossible to achieve; Thunder Sound Buddha also recognized this issue, hence his choice was simple: reduce the variables.
Simply put, they believe the current Leiyin Temple system is the best, requires no change, and must not question the words of the Buddha.
But Maitreya and the Great Leiyin Temple differ, especially in their views on impermanence.
In the classroom, that teacher continued lecturing.
"How do we know when what the Buddha says is correct and when it’s wrong? This brings us back to our second doctrine."
Pharmacist Bodhisattva’s face showed slight numbness.
"The first method of judgment: Does what the Buddha says conform to the common knowledge and understanding you have learned? Secondly, does the Buddha’s words serve the interests of others?" The teacher said slowly, "If they conform, they are correct; if they don’t, they are wrong."
"Thus, we return to the first doctrine: do not ask about its origin, only question its conduct, and treat the Buddha likewise."
Cheng Yun nodded secretly in agreement.
Among the three doctrines, the most fundamental is actually not that slogan-like second doctrine: how to judge good from evil, right from wrong.
Through the second doctrine, the three doctrines can truly be integrated together.
Even since the establishment of the Great Compassion Hall and Bodhi Institute, the foundation of Maitreya Buddhism has already been formed—compassion and wisdom united, using wisdom and compassion to educate the masses.
This is what Pharmacist Bodhisattva fears:
Following this line of thought, the Buddha is not special, let alone eternal.
Buddhism is the same.
This is the blade aimed at Leiyin Buddhism.
The issue is, this knife is too sharp, capable of killing others and oneself.
"You’ve gone mad..."
"No, this is our Way of Cause and Effect," Cheng Yun shook his head, "You seek good outcomes; we seek good causes. As for the outcome, that’s the choice of all beings, and we accept it."
Pharmacist Bodhisattva cast a complex gaze towards the east: "Even if Master Zheng is forgotten or even spurned by the world?"
"Emotionally, we certainly don’t wish for this," Cheng Yun thought for a moment, then smiled, "but he probably wouldn’t mind."
"What?"
This is something Cheng Yun is quite certain about—he’s had many interactions with Zheng Fa, and Zheng had few reservations with him, so Cheng Yun actually has a deeper understanding of Zheng Fa’s thoughts and philosophies.
He thought for a moment and said something even more incomprehensible to Pharmacist Bodhisattva.
"He might... even be pleased to see himself negated."
Pharmacist Bodhisattva increasingly disbelieves his ears.
Cheng Yun did not explain further.
Be it the three doctrines or various systems, fundamentally, Dean Zheng’s ideological foundation has actually never changed—errors and failures are actually another way of saying scientific progress; adhering to so-called correctness will only cause greater mistakes.
Dean Zheng is happy to be the shoulder of giants.
This is something any Xuanwei cultivator might not be able to understand, but for modern cultivators like them, it’s the simplest truth.
Thinking of this, Cheng Yun couldn’t help but glance in the direction of Pudu Temple.
All familiar modern cultivators in the nursing home have an unspoken consensus—Dean Zheng is Professor Bai’s best student.
...
Pharmacist Bodhisattva and Cheng Yun stayed at the elementary school for an entire day; he listened to the teachers deconstructing the three doctrines bit by bit, somewhat resistant but unconsciously finished listening, even with a very contradictory thought—
The Great Leiyin Temple should be correct, but it being correct is too inappropriate.
It wasn’t until the afternoon meal bell that he was abruptly awakened, suddenly remembering something: "You said there is still a major event tonight?"
"Please follow me, Bodhisattva."
Pharmacist Bodhisattva followed Cheng Yun, curious yet somewhat fearful—the elementary school was stimulating enough; what other major event could there be?
Unexpectedly, Cheng Yun directly took him back to Leiyin Temple, or rather, the main entrance of Leiyin Temple.
Outside the main entrance of Leiyin Temple lies a plaza, paved with golden bricks, very spacious and flat, capable of accommodating tens of thousands.
At this moment, at the center of the plaza, there was a black stone platform, waist-high, unguarded on all four sides.
