Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Breaking the Formation
After Gu Yun and his companions took care of the people from the Ancient Nether Sect,
they spent several days traveling with Xiao Chen and arrived within the Heaven and Earth Secret Realm.
Deep within a lush forest of towering ancient trees, nestled among intersecting mountain ranges,
the area seemed no different from the towering ancient woods they had traveled through along the way.
But upon closer inspection, one could sense that within this particular part of the forest,
the temperature was significantly higher, and even the moisture in the air felt unusual.
Shortly after they continued forward,
Gu Yun sensed dozens of people gathered before a set of ruins up ahead.
"We still need at least three more True Martial Realm Cultivators to complete the Array and open the Seal."
A young Cultivator in a white Daoist Robe, holding a black Array Plate, said in a deep voice.
"But True Martial Realm Cultivators under thirty aren’t so easy to find in this Secret Realm,"
"We’ve searched among hundreds, even thousands of people, and have only found six of us," a burly young man shouted.
"Who’s there!?" the burly young man suddenly exclaimed.
In the distance, three young figures tore through the air, crossing hundreds of yards in the blink of an eye and leaving a trail of afterimages as they approached.
The surrounding crowd stared at the three arrivals and was shocked to see they were all True Martial Realm Cultivators.
The one on the left wore a white robe and carried a longsword on his back. He was strikingly handsome and exuded an intimidating Sword Qi.
The one on the right was dressed in a black robe. He had a powerful build, a resolute expression, and dark hair, his eyes conveying a calmness as steady as a rock.
As for the one in the middle, he wore a white Profound Robe. His face was elegant, his expression placid, and his True Yuan was as deep as an ocean, suggesting terrifying strength!
These three were, of course, Gu Yun, Xiao Chen, and Li Xingyue, who had been traveling all this time.
"I am Chen Jishu of the Eastern Profound Array-Breaking Sect. May I ask who you gentlemen are?" he asked, his gaze fixed on the three True Martial Realm Cultivators, especially the one in the middle whose power was terrifying.
He was like a brewing storm, motionless as a mountain but explosive as thunder.
The young man in the white Daoist Robe cupped his fist as he spoke.
"Li Xingyue, of the Profound Celestial Sect."
Li Xingyue replied with a faint smile.
"These two are my senior brothers: Gu Yun and Xiao Chen."
HISS!
The dozens of Spiritual Martial Cultivators in the crowd were all stunned. ’So they’re disciples of the Profound Celestial Sect! No wonder they’re so powerful!’
Even the other five young True Martial Realm Cultivators present were astonished. ’They might just be Inner Sect Disciples of the Profound Celestial Sect, yet their strength is so immense.’
In contrast, they themselves were all True Disciples of their own Sects, cultivated with the full backing of their Sect’s resources to reach their current level of power.
"So, you are from the Profound Celestial Sect. Forgive me, forgive me."
"I presume you are also here to explore these ruins."
In the Eastern Profound Domain, not all Sects were like the Ancient Nether Sect; at least ninety percent of them showed considerable respect to the Profound Celestial Sect.
This was because the Profound Celestial Sect’s reputation was forged in slaughter—a slaughter so immense it shook the heavens and made rivers of blood flow.
After a round of pleasantries,
everyone turned their attention to the matter at hand.
"This array protecting the ruins is called the Nine Illusory Void Flame Arrays."
Chen Jishu took out his black Array Plate and infused it with a stream of powerful True Yuan, causing the plate to emit a dazzling light.
The light formed a beam that shot out, striking the empty space before them.
The seemingly empty space suddenly began to ripple violently like the surface of water.
A light screen gradually faded, revealing a vast, boundless area ahead, shrouded in thick fog from which a faint, blood-red glow emanated.
"After several days of investigation, we’ve discovered that the Nine Illusory Void Flame Arrays are far from simple."
"The array is exceedingly complex, with nine cornerstones all interconnected. To break it, at least nine Cultivators at or above the True Martial Realm must attack at the same time,"
"destroying all nine array cores at once. Only then can the array be broken."
"In that case, with the three of you Fellow Daoists from the Profound Celestial Sect, we have exactly nine people. We can each take responsibility for one array core. What do you say?"
the burly young man suggested.
None of the other True Martial Realm Cultivators, including Gu Yun, had any objections and nodded in agreement.
Seeing that no one present disagreed, Chen Jishu took out nine Array Plates, a flicker of pained reluctance in his eyes.
He kept one for himself and distributed the rest to the other True Martial Realm Cultivators.
"Fellow Daoists, take these Array Plates. Attack simultaneously, and once you’ve broken through the array’s defenses, place this plate into the array core."
"That will allow us to break the Nine Illusory Void Flame Arrays."
"Once the array is destroyed, everyone may enter. Any treasures found within the ruins will belong to whoever can claim them."
Chen Jishu said, cupping his hands.
"Fellow Daoist Chen speaks reason."
Without any further delay, the young Cultivators acted with swift decisiveness, taking their Array Plates and heading toward their respective cores of the Nine Heavens Flame Dao Array.
「A short while later」
A small streak of light flew down from the sky.
Gu Yun reached out and caught it. A Communication Talisman landed in his palm, and a voice tinged with excitement entered his mind.
"I trust all you Fellow Daoists have reached your designated positions. We will now begin to break the array."
"We have."
Gu Yun infused a message into a Communication Talisman and sent it flying back into the sky.
"Break the array!"
Gu Yun unleashed a slash. The Sword Qi was like a clap of thunder, tearing through the air as the ferociously sharp blade light cut into the dense fog ahead.
Not far away,
Xiao Chen threw a punch that split the air. Immense power gathered, instantly crashing forward like a tidal wave to crush the fog before him.
On another side, the burly young man also threw a punch. His immense power seemed to carry the weight of a heavy mountain as it slammed into the fog.
Near the burly man, Li Xingyue unleashed his own slash. His Sword Qi was like a streak of light, like a river of stars falling from the heavens, as it tore through the sky and ripped open space on its way toward the fog.
At that same moment,
the True Martial Realm Cultivators at every position all launched their attacks into the fog.
All nine of them attacked as one.
As the mighty volley of attacks struck the array, a screen of light suddenly rose from within the fog.
However, under the force of their combined assault, it shattered like glass in mere moments with a loud CRACK.
Immediately after,
RUMBLE!
The entire grand array protecting the ruins began to tremble violently. Its defensive light screen was broken.
Gu Yun, holding his Array Plate, slowly placed it upon the spiritual platform before him.
At the same time, or nearly the same instant,
all nine Array Plates were placed into their respective array cores. Instantly, a fiery red light rose from the plates,
spreading outward like a living entity and seeping into the spiritual platforms of the array cores below.
It then began to spread with ferocious speed.
’Not good!’
Gu Yun retreated warily.
Suddenly,
a pillar of fiery red light erupted from the Array Plate and shot toward the heavens, like a colossal red column piercing the sky!
At the same time, from the nine array positions,
nine pillars of red light rose in unison, illuminating the heavens and the earth and dyeing the entire sky a brilliant crimson.
Then, with another "CRACK!"
a crisp sound like shattering glass echoed out. The array, which had been surrounded by roiling fog, seemed to suffer a devastating blow.
Space rippled like the surface of water before it could no longer hold, shattering into pieces and collapsing in an instant!
