Chapter 582: Chapter 498: Resurrection from Death?
The battle flared into white heat in an instant.
Theoretically, with his modified Magic boosting offense, defense, and movement, Jeming had already reached the standard of a Sixth Level Wizard.
But after actually fighting, he realized that with his current level, facing a Sixth Level Wizard was still far too strenuous!
Jeming’s figure was lightning-fast, Void Step pushed to the limit, dragging out countless indistinguishable afterimages in the sky.
The metallic wings on his back were like a slaughtering swarm with its own will; the muzzles stayed locked on the silhouette within the gray‑white mist, spitting out a continuous torrent of destruction.
Stream after stream of dark‑gold scorching light lanced out from the tips of the Floating Cannons, crisscrossing in the air.
Because the interval between each shot and the next blast of Fire Extinction Divine Light was so incredibly short, beams that should have flashed and vanished upon firing instead became attacks like continuously firing lasers.
Where these continuous light streams swept past, space was scorched into high‑temperature twisted belts that could not heal for a long time; the barren earth below suffered even more.
As the dark‑gold light streams swept across the ground, rock vaporized without a sound, and the gray‑white earth melted into a boiling, glassy lake.
Farther away, a hillside was sliced clean in half; the upper section of the mountain slid down slowly amid blinding radiance, kicking up a sky‑covering cloud of dust.
Under the cover of the dense light streams, Jeming himself was executing frenzied high‑speed maneuvers.
He would shoot straight up, then cut at a sharp angle, then drift like a falling leaf, trying to shake off that shadow‑locking aim that clung to him like his own shadow.
However, the attacks of that Sixth Level Wizard were like a bone‑gnawing parasite.
"Wailing‑Soul Fire Crow!" A cold low shout came from within the gray‑white mist.
Dozens of birds formed entirely from ghastly white flames condensed out of thin air. They screamed soundlessly, dragging tail‑flames that seemed able to scorch the Soul, closing in on Jeming from all directions.
Where they passed, the air froze and then burned, leaving eerie trails of ice and fire.
"Annihilation Sound Ring!" The Wizard brought both hands together, and a pitch‑black, ink‑like circular ring in violent high‑frequency vibration suddenly spread out!
It wasn’t tangible matter, but a hybrid product of pure sound waves and the Law of Annihilation.
The sound waves even surpassed conventional sound speed, diffusing at unimaginable super‑high velocity, instantly covering several kilometers of airspace around Jeming.
Where the sound ring reached, space groaned under the strain, and all Energy flows turned sluggish and chaotic.
But the most frequent, and most lethal of all, were still those unadorned yet deadly gray‑white annihilating beams.
They shot out from the mist at every angle, each one precisely predicting Jeming’s evasion paths, forcing him to burn through stamina on constant extreme dodging.
When a beam occasionally grazed the Ruins Armor, an ear‑piercing "zzzz" shriek would erupt—that was the sound of highly condensed Power of Annihilation clashing violently with the Ruins Armor.
Jeming was completely on the back foot.
The only capital he had to keep trading blows was the continuous suppressive light streams from the Floating Cannons at his back, and that Ruins Armor on his body that could automatically draw spare units from the Grotto Heaven and refresh almost without pause.
But many times, the Ruins Armor couldn’t even withstand two hits before shattering.
More often, he had to temporarily converge several streams of Fire Extinction Divine Light, condensing them into a huge dark‑gold shield in front of him, or sweeping them into a dazzling Light Saber to scatter the onrushing Fire Crow flock and forcibly cleave open a portion of the Sound Ring.
But this was ultimately drinking poison to quench thirst.
The sustained fire from the Floating Cannons devoured Spiritual Power and Calculation Power on a massive scale, and the density of the enemy’s attacks left him no chance to breathe.
The disadvantage snowballed, growing larger and larger.
Finally, in the instant after he forcibly cleaved apart three annihilating beams and his body stalled for a split second...
"It’s over."
Within the gray‑white mist, those two points of scarlet radiance suddenly flared!
A gray‑white hand composed of an extremely condensed "Light‑Dark Annihilation Singularity" ignored spatial distance, as if it directly "grew" out of the void in front of Jeming’s chest.
Catching that tiny instant when Jeming’s Ruins Armor had just shattered and had no time to replenish, it slapped solidly onto his chest!
The matter touched by the palm evaporated in an instant like dew under sunlight.
The gray robe on Jeming’s chest, his flesh, his bones...everything that constituted his body, under that ultimate "Annihilation" damage, silently reverted to the most fundamental nothingness.
This Annihilation even back‑propagated along the connection between Energy and Soul!
Over half of Jeming’s chest, along with his head, vanished as if a frame had been skipped—like a pencil sketch erased by an invisible rubber, from scalp to skull, from brain to Soul Core...utterly gone.
In those black eyes, the last thing reflected was that mass of gray‑white mist in the distance, its fluctuations violent, seemingly also heavily taxed.
The headless corpse froze in midair for a heartbeat, then lost all strength and, like a puppet with its strings cut, plummeted toward the already devastated land below.
The metallic Floating Cannons on his back went dark in an instant, like lifeless Metal wreckage, scattering down together with the corpse.
Bang!
The corpse slammed heavily into the glassified ground that had melted and re‑cooled, sending up a spray of crystal shards.
Between heaven and earth, everything seemed to fall suddenly silent.
Only the rocks ignited by the battle’s aftershocks still crackled in the distance, and the wind moaned as it swept across the gouged terrain.
In the sky, that mass of gray‑white mist slowly gathered in, condensing once more into the figure of that Wizard of the Tower of Annihilation.
Only now, his condition could hardly be called good either.
His fully Elementalized body was clearly much thinner, to the point that one could faintly see the unstable Energy Core circulating within.
Those iconic scarlet pupils had also dimmed by several shades, revealing a deep exhaustion.
To ensure a one-hit kill, that "Hand of Annihilation" just now had drained nearly ninety percent of his remaining Spiritual Power.
He slowly descended to the ground not far from Jeming’s corpse, scarlet gaze sweeping over the decapitated remains and the scattered wreckage of Floating Cannons around it, all without the slightest Energy response.
At last, from that taut state, he relaxed just a fraction.
"In the end... still just Fifth Level." The hoarse voice carried the indifference that follows victory, along with a faint, barely noticeable sense of release.
Yet...
In the split second when his mind relaxed, a sudden change erupted!
Among those chunks of Floating Cannon wreckage that looked to be randomly scattered, their muzzles pointing every which way, several of the muzzles had, at some unknown moment during the fall, subtly shifted their angles by an imperceptible degree—and now were faintly aimed toward his position!
Buzz!!!
The dim Metal surfaces suddenly burst with blazing dark-golden light, without the slightest warning!
These Fire Extinction Divine Lights had been compressed even further, compressed to a width less than a finger.
What came with that was destructive power strong enough.
The timing of the attack was vicious to the extreme—striking at the exact instant when his mind relaxed and his body, exhausted, revealed a tiny gap in its defense!
"What?!" The scarlet in the Sixth Level Wizard’s pupils abruptly shrank to needlepoints!
Facing a lightspeed strike at such close range, he had no time at all to make a complete defensive move.
Puff! Puff! Puff!
Three dark-golden beams compressed to the limit, like hot knives through butter, easily pierced through the already tottering mist barrier and slammed hard into his Elementalized body!
"Aaaahhh!!!"
An inhuman, shrill scream of agony exploded from within the mist!
Where the beams hit, the gray-white mist boiled crazily, exposing the violently churning Energy Core inside.
Terror-striking annihilative Energy eroded inward from the wounds, fiercely clashing with his own Power of Annihilation and causing secondary destruction!
With just a single strike, his body—already in poor condition—was instantly grievously wounded!
His Elementalized body flickered, on and off, as if it might collapse and disperse at any moment, his aura withering to the extreme.
He staggered backward, scarlet pupils locked onto those three Floating Cannons that were slowly losing their last luster and turning completely into scrap iron. His eyes were filled with shock and fury, venomous hatred, and... a trace of fear finally rising.
These cannons... were intentional?!
A final trap set by that Wizard before death?!
And just then, an even more Soul-chilling scene occurred.
In the distance, that headless corpse that should have been utterly dead—brain and heart annihilated, even the Soul shredded—suddenly... moved.
Then, under the near-stupefied gaze of the Sixth Level Wizard, that corpse shakily braced a hand against the ground and slowly stood up.
At the charred break in its chest, granulated flesh squirmed madly, as if it had gained Life of its own.
Bone, blood vessels, nerves, muscles, skin... all rapidly regenerated at a speed visible to the naked eye.
In just two or three seconds, a head identical to the previous one grew back in full.
Jeming raised his newly formed hand, somewhat unaccustomedly touching his own cheeks and neck, as though confirming something.
Then he turned his head, those still pitch-black and calm eyes looking toward the distant, grievously wounded, on-the-verge-of-collapse Sixth Level Wizard.
"Impossible..." The figure within the mist let out a hoarse, trembling voice filled with incomprehension and bone-deep horror. "Your heart and brain clearly vanished... your Soul, I shattered it! You should be dead! Why... why can you still stand?!"
Jeming did not answer immediately.
He lightly rolled his new-grown neck, producing faint clicking sounds, and only then slowly spoke, his voice carrying a post-catastrophe weakness:
"Yeah... why am I still alive?"
It sounded like he was throwing the question back, yet also like he was asking himself.
The next second, that puzzled gaze turned cold in an instant.
"Die!"
The remaining few Floating Cannons lit up once more, aiming at that gray-white figure on the brink of collapse.
The heavily injured Sixth Level Wizard let out a desperate, unwilling roar, trying to make a final struggle, gathering his last strength...
But Jeming did not give him that chance.
All remaining Floating Cannons, together with the index finger of his own raised right hand, erupted with their final light simultaneously.
Several dark-golden beams completely drowned that gray-white figure.
This Sixth Level Wizard managed only a short, piercing wail of misery before being cut off.
The gray-white mist dispersed rapidly like snow under the sun.
In the end, only a small pinch of Elemental ash devoid of all Spiritual essence remained, drifting down onto the charred, shattered earth.
