Chapter 256: Chapter 185: We’re Here to Survive, You’re Here to Learn a Skill?

’No.’

’Seriously, lady.’

’We’re a bunch of poor slobs competing to win prize money and make our lives better. You’re a pampered, beautiful, second-generation heiress. What are you doing joining the circus?!’

’Are you really just here to learn how to make a decent meal in the wild?’

"Words are cheap. Why should I believe you?"

"It’s simple." Erica walked over and stopped about a meter in front of him. Suddenly, she bent down, leaning in close to the camera on his chest.

"My mom’s name is Michelle, and she’s the founder of the Michelle Hotel. Any interested viewers can look it up online and see if I’m really her daughter."

"?"

Seeing how confident and sincere she sounded, Lin Chen was utterly stunned.

’Could what this girl is saying actually be true?’

He’d of course heard of the Michelle Hotel. Its business wasn’t just all over North America; they were expanding into Asia as well.

If this girl was really the owner’s daughter, then her family’s assets... God only knew how many zeros were in that number.

It also explained why a girl like her wouldn’t have a proper job and instead spent her childhood running around in the wild with her dad.

Even though Western attitudes are more liberal and open, her mother probably wouldn’t have been too happy about her daughter running wild since she was a child.

Only a major entrepreneur, that busy, would be completely unable to look after things at home.

Sure enough.

The results of the audience’s investigation soon scrolled across his watch, confirming that the woman in front of him was telling the truth.

"Ahem, Miss Erica."

Lin Chen cleared his throat, his tone softening slightly.

"Given your status, you could easily have a head chef from the hotel teach you, couldn’t you? As far as I know, the Michelle Hotel has several five-star establishments. The chefs at a five-star hotel are no joke."

"I don’t want to."

Erica furrowed her delicate brows. "I’m not close with my mom. She’s barely ever home as it is, and when she is, she’s always ordering me around with a preachy tone. I’m not her pet dog; I’d never ask her for help."

"Besides, hotel chefs are just so-so. It’s not a dedicated restaurant; they mainly do buffets. And you know how buffets are—the quality can only be so high."

"Most importantly, Western cuisine is useless in the wild. It’s too reliant on all sorts of pre-made sauces, canned goods, and gadgets. Without all that stuff, a Western chef is basically a good-for-nothing."

"Now, you can’t say that," Lin Chen said, hurriedly waving his hands. "Chefs from different fields have their own specializations. I just happen to enjoy trying new things, that’s all. The wilderness dishes I make are actually pretty average."

’She’s a billionaire’s daughter; she can say whatever she wants without a care in the world. But not me.’

’If I got involved in making discriminatory comments like that on the show, my reputation would be toast.’

’He was still counting on these fans to support his channel and help him earn ad revenue later on.’

"Whatever."

Erica shrugged, straightened up, and stared at him with her big, beautiful eyes.

"I won’t be a threat to your run for the championship. I can even pay you tuition, though I’d have to give it to you after we get out of here. All you have to do is teach me whenever you cook."

"The tuition won’t be necessary. How about this: you get your own shelter set up first. I’m also building a new shelter right now. Once that’s done, I’ll be free, and I can teach you then. How does that sound?"

"I heard from the viewers," she said, nodding. "They said you found an abandoned cabin with lots of supplies nearby. Where is it, exactly? I just want to learn the way; I promise I won’t touch any of the resources near your place."

"See that creek? Follow it all the way up the slope for about fifteen or twenty minutes. You’ll see a Bamboo Tree. Head in that direction, and you’ll see a tobacco field, and then you’ll see the cabin."

Lin Chen then described the route to her and pointed toward the distant beach behind him.

"My current temporary shelter is over there, on the other side of the creek. The two locations are about a half-hour walk from each other. If you’re a fast walker, you can probably make it in about twenty minutes."

"Are you going to make dinner now?"

With her hands behind her back, Erica leaned over the basket at his feet and peeked inside. Her eyes lit up when she saw two strange ingredients.

"Goose-necked Barnacles? Stone Clams? You can actually eat these?"

"Aren’t you a wilderness guide? How could you not know something like this?"

"I’m not familiar with coastal areas. I specialize in regions like the North American Forest. I know the forests in Europe pretty well, too."

"Europe?"

Lin Chen looked her up and down.

’Her sharp features, tall and slender proportions, and even her crop top didn’t seem very typical of a native North American. It was more reminiscent of the style from certain European countries.’

’People from North America tend to be more robust; there are fewer who are tall and slim. But Erica’s figure was quite slender, and her accent wasn’t purely American—it sounded like a mix of some kind.’

"That’s right," Erica said, introducing herself openly. "I’m half Spanish, half American. I grew up in Europe as a kid and only came here later."

"No wonder. I was just thinking you don’t really look American."

"By your East Asian beauty standards, am I considered attractive or unattractive?"

"Uh... To be honest, you’re very attractive. People of mixed heritage are usually good-looking. If you made an account on a Great Xia social media platform and posted videos of your work now and then, you’d probably become a pretty famous content creator."

"Really?"

Erica’s eyes lit up, and she was clearly taking his words to heart. "Did you all hear that? Lin said I could be a content creator on a Great Xia social platform! If I start posting TikTok videos, will you guys give me likes?"
