Chapter 221: Chapter 173: Coconut-Fragranced Crab Roe Sauce
’Tsk, you can’t rush a good thing, but crab is one of those things you have to eat hot.’
He paced back and forth anxiously. He wasn’t just trying to figure out how to handle the searing heat, but also how to crack open its tough shell.
His combat knife was sharp, but using it to cut something like this would likely chip the blade. It wasn’t worth the risk.
Large sea crabs like this were usually handled with a cleaver and specialized shears.
’Wait, a cleaver?’
His eyes lit up. He turned and pulled the thin-bladed stone axe from his shelter.
He first tore off a thick leg, raised the stone axe, and brought it down hard about a knuckle’s length from the joint.
CRACK!
The shell, roasted to a perfect crisp, was even more brittle than he’d expected. The heavy, sharp stone axe left a deep groove on its surface, and the surrounding shell fractured along with it.
He chopped a notch into both ends of the leg, tore off the lower section, then gripped the thigh portion with both hands and snapped it forcefully.
SNAP!
With a crisp cracking sound, the joint broke, and the thick, succulent leg meat was finally revealed.
He broke off the joints at both ends, then gently pulled on the leg meat. A perfect stick of crab meat emerged.
GULP.
Seeing the plump, red-and-white crab meat before him, Lin Chen couldn’t help but swallow hard.
Coconut crabs were completely different from king crabs or snow crabs. The latter two had long, straight legs, shaped much like the imitation crab sticks he was familiar with.
But a coconut crab’s leg was thick and wide, almost like a wrench, and not particularly long.
It was as if its length had been folded in half and added to its width; the amount of meat was actually about the same.
The sweet aroma of crab meat filled his nostrils, and his eyes were practically glued to it. Just as he was about to stuff the fat piece of leg meat into his mouth, he suddenly remembered something.
He held the crab leg up to the camera and waved it around.
"Look at this, a whole piece of coconut crab leg meat. Given its thickness, the meat from its lower leg probably has as much volume as a king crab’s thigh. No wonder they can crack coconuts with their bare claws. You can’t do that without some serious muscle."
He glanced at the bulging ball of flesh at the crab’s tail, thought for a moment, and decided to taste it plain first.
In front of the camera, he made a loud noise on purpose, SLURPING the entire piece of leg meat into his mouth.
He smacked his lips while letting out sounds of amazement.
"Oh my god~!"
"This flavor is absolutely incredible!"
"Friends, you can’t even imagine how delicious this thing is."
"Not only is the meat thick and sweet, but the muscle fibers are also incredibly tender. Every single crevice between the fibers is filled with sweet juice."
"I don’t know if it’s because it grew up eating coconuts, but I can vaguely taste a faint hint of coconut."
Before he had even swallowed the crab meat in his mouth, he was already eagerly raising his stone axe again, making two cuts on the coconut crab’s lower leg.
Just as he’d thought, its lower leg was also packed with plump crab meat.
After wolfing down the entire crab leg, he finally felt the satisfaction of eating meat.
However, the system notification didn’t appear. He wondered if it was because he was anticipating something even better, and the leg meat alone was no longer enough to satisfy his craving.
He didn’t rush to dismantle the other legs. The carapace of a sea crab this size was so tough, it was almost as if it had been sealed with superglue; you couldn’t just pry it open with your bare hands.
First, he stuck his small knife into the seam under the carapace and scraped all the way around, severing any connecting tissues he could.
"A coconut crab’s body and carapace structure is different from a regular crab’s, but as long as you find the seam where the carapace connects, it’s still easy to handle."
He grabbed the large, soft tail with one hand and the body with the other. Twisting his hands in opposite directions, he wrung off the plump, soft tail with a gentle twist.
"The anatomy of a coconut crab means all its roe is stored in its tail, not inside the carapace. That’s why its carapace is actually empty—those are the two pieces I pried open earlier."
He carefully cut open the soft shell on the tail’s surface with his combat knife, revealing the roe inside, which looked like it was about to burst.
An incredibly intense aroma—a mix of coconut and the savory scent of the roe—wafted over him.
He quickly dipped a finger in to taste it, a blissful smile spreading across his face.
The flavor was like a concentrated crab paste made from the roe and tomalley of countless mitten crabs, then simmered in coconut water until it reached the consistency of a sauce.
Combined with its own faint saltiness, it needed no extra seasoning. It was already perfect on its own.
He hurriedly broke off two more legs, peeled out the whole pieces of meat, gave them a good "bath" in the roe sauce, and then stuffed one whole into his mouth.
"!!!!"
"Hah... fuck."
Although the camera didn’t capture his expression, his regular viewers knew very well that Lin only cursed in his native tongue when he ate something supremely delicious.
Judging by his tone, it probably wasn’t anything polite.
It was likely some kind of expletive, similar to the word "fuck."
[Enjoying a delicious coconut crab on a beach in Panama. Happiness +5]
’Worth it!’
’Totally worth it!’
Right now, Lin Chen had no other thoughts in his head. There was only this one.
Even if he could never gain such a huge amount of happiness again, this one experience was enough to become an unforgettable memory.
Watching him eat with such bliss, every single one of the guests gathered in the White Whale Restaurant couldn’t help but gulp.
