Chapter 31: Perhaps This Time, He Was The Help

[YAROSLAV]

"Volkov called again, Yaro. What do you think they want?" Milan asked, peppering kisses on Yaroslav’s face.

Katya had long seen them together, and that had done nothing for them and their conscience.

If anything, they were a little more open with their escapades. Besides, Katya was still in the hospital, and there wasn’t a person outside their circle who could try to rat them out.

Those in their circle were too busy to even think of a man who was openly cheating on his sick husband. It was twisted, truly, yet here with Milan, Yaroslav Gamov didn’t seem as bothered.

If anything, this was just another day for him.

"Father sent me divorce papers," Yaroslav said dismissively, like the very idea of a divorce was so absurd it pissed him off. It was out of character for his father, truly, because Sergei never cared what Yaroslav did with his life.

He only ever got involved when Yaroslav was hurting or if someone was trying to use his son to get to him, which always ended badly. Because no one dared to touch Yaroslav and lived to tell the story about it.

Sergei had made certain of that.

"Did Kathy sign on them?" Milan asked, hope in her voice, something that Yaroslav recognized instantly.

And the way she was insistent on referring to Katya as Kathy was just insane because it was her way of reminding Katya that she was more important than he ever could be.

Milan had always wanted to be the one that Yaroslav chose. The one he came home to. She had always wanted him to be the one she spent the rest of her life with.

It wasn’t a dream at this point; it was a truth that Yaroslav was very much aware of.

Yaroslav never said no to her, but he never quite pushed her away either. It was as if he was keeping her close enough to have fun with her, before he went back home to Katya.

"Yeah. Said he wants a divorce, I’m not signing that shit," Yaroslav said with so much spite.

Milan stiffened beside him.

She looked at him as if to ask why he was not taking the chance to be free with her, the chance to make their relationship official, if this was even a relationship that they wanted out in the public.

But then again, not everyone had the luxury of choosing love all the time, right?

"Why not? You’ll be free from the childless omega, right? I can give you babies, Yaro. I love you, and we have spent more time together lately when he is not here.

"If you want, I can ask the nurses to increase the dosage of sedatives, so he stays away for a long time. Can even make him look crazy, so he gets locked up in a psych ward.

"I just want to be happy with you. just say the word, and I will do it," Milan said confidently, her determination something that didn’t seem to surprise Yaroslav.

After all, this woman had been pining over him for years, even after they had broken up.

Yaroslav had only accepted her back in his life because he couldn’t force Katya to do shit that Katya didn’t want to.

He wanted Katya to be happy, but as the years went by, Yaroslav noticed how Katya yearned for children, children that they could have. Maybe that was why he went to rekindle his relationship with Milan.

Because at least with Milan, he would have kids and bring them home to Katya.

He loved that omega so much.

He would just tell him that he had processed the adoption papers and that Katya would never have to worry about anything.

That was primarily the reason Yaroslav had stayed in contact with Milan.

But Milan didn’t know that.

She never had a reason to suspect him anyway.

"After he humiliated me that much? He has to suffer for the years ever talked behind my back about my childless omega. Had people suspecting I wasn’t doing my job well," Yaroslav spat, like he didn’t already know the truth.

At the same time, he understood what Milan wanted.

But Milan was never going to be a good partner.

She was a good fuck, sure, but that was just it for her with him anyway.

"So..." Milan trailed off.

"I love you, Milan," Yaroslav said.

Milan keened, only for one of Yaroslav’s men to rush into the room.

"Ivan, what did we say about you ruining my moments with the woman I love?" Yaroslav growled.

The man, Ivan, who had just walked in, stepped back instinctively.

"Sir, I’m sorry, but you need to see this," Ivan said before he grabbed the remote and turned on the television.

"What is it?" Yaroslav asked, not having the patience to deal with whatever shenanigans were here already.

"It’s Mr. Katya. He—" Ivan rambled, only for the TV to show the one thing that had Yaroslav stiffening worse than he had ever been before.

"Is this some joke, Ivan?" Yaroslav asked, clearly not pleased with what he was seeing.

So, he pushed Milan off of him, not bothering when she shrieked and fell to the floor. He grabbed the remote and turned the volume up, sifting through channels.

But the news was the same; they were all airing the same thing.

Katya.

His Katya.

Only that this time, it wasn’t what he had expected.

The omega... was the chairman of the Moskowsky group.

And worse, the omega’s last name had changed. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

He was no longer Katya Gamov.

But Katya Moskowsky.

"What the fuck, Yaroslav?" Milan asked, but when she saw what he was looking at, she shut up real quick.

This was not expected.

This was some wild shit that was happening.

There was just no fucking way this was real.

"Well, that explains why Anya has been insistent on the divorce papers," Milan said, her voice light in a mocking manner.

She looked like she couldn’t believe this was real, but at the same time, she looked like hope had finally come knocking on her door.

Like her dreams of having the man beside her were finally a reality.

"When did this happen, Ivan?" Yaroslav asked, like he could see the live button on his screen. It couldn’t be real.

It just couldn’t.

There was no way this was real.

"It is happening now, sir," Ivan said carefully.

Yaroslav stared at the screen like a man possessed.

He could see the name.

He could see the title.

But those didn’t even matter, like the photos that showed Katya.

His beautiful Katya.

His omega, who looked like sin in that scarlet suit.

Katya looked like he could seduce a person by simply existing. He looked gentle and dangerous at the same time.

More than anything, Yaroslav noticed the lack of life in his eyes.

The photo was good for everyone, but Yaroslav knew Katya more than anyone ever knew the man. He knew when Katya was scared.

He knew Katya was horrified.

That right there, that man in the photo with a formal posture, was not okay.

The love of his life was hurting, and he had to do something.

"Call Anya," Yaroslav demanded.

Ivan did.

But the call was not picked up.

At the second trial, Anya instantly hung up.

The worst part of it all was that Yaroslav saw it all on the screen. How Anya grabbed her phone from her back and silenced it like it was just some dance.

"Give me that shit," Yaroslav said, before he rang using his phone.

Anya stared at the phone again and put it back into her purse... then gave Volkov the purse, on live television.

Surely, she had to have known that Yaroslav was watching, right? That woman knew everything, and that got Yaroslav agitated because what the heck were they even doing?

What the fuck was his husband doing dressed like sin and for the city to see?

Yaroslav knew Katya was achingly beautiful. He always had been, and that was one of the many reasons that Yaroslav had fallen in love with the omega.

But seeing him standing there, looking like he wanted to be somewhere else, hit Yaroslav hard.

He couldn’t just stay away.

He knew the kind of family he had brought Katya into. And he knew this was his doing. So, hurriedly, the beta got up and went to clean up.

If Anya wanted him, Anya would get him. But first, he would make sure his omega was alright. even if Kaga probably didn’t want to see him for the anniversary shit.

"Where are you going?" Milan asked.

Yaroslav didn’t respond.
