Chapter 194: Nothing Could Be More Dangerous Than This
[YAROSLAV]
The quiet tension in the new Gamov residence was deafening. It was the kind that didn’t make any sense, yet made so much sense.
Milan was preparing to go to work at the hospital. Her maternity leave was over as the baby was now over a year old. It had not exactly been a blissful season for her either.
They had been living pretty quiet lives away from the eyes of the press, but within the walls of this beautiful home was a house that knew nothing of love.
"Now would you look at that. I told you before, your father was being all weird about Kathy, and you didn’t even think twice," Milan said, her amusement seeping through her words like it was just another day for them.
But was it when there was a different scandal blooming that would put their family right in the middle of chaos again? Even so, what was the worst that could happen right now?
"What was that you said again?" Milan mocked as Yaroslav broke the remote in his hands.
He couldn’t believe this was happening now.
It was impossible.
The fact that Sierra had made the suspicions known publicly could only mean that more people had been thinking of what Yaroslav had been suspecting for over a year now.
His biweekly lunch dates with his father had dwindled to zero. Dinners maybe. Breakfast and lunch, though, were always booked.
It was as if his father was suddenly a three-meal-a-day faithful who had suddenly realized the importance of life and all that it came with.
But it wasn’t that.
It would never be that.
Anyone with eyes could see.
"Ah, right... I just remembered... they’re just coworkers," Milan said as she grabbed her purse and got ready to walk out.
The disbelieving agony on Yaroslav’s face this morning was enough to make her feel better.
They had been fighting over Romanov a lot more than they talked about their home and building what they had so far. And now it was right here in front of them.
Not with the exact words, but with the speculation of everyone in the city. There was no way to turn a blind eye to this anymore.
Not without being fundamentally stupid.
"I know my father better than anyone," Yaroslav insisted, the pride in his voice obvious.
He knew his father was dating Irina.
Yet at the same time, Irina and Sergei hadn’t been seen together in nearly a year. The gala, sure, but that was the last public sighting.
Irina never posted about Sergei again, and she was always a regular poster. Even today, she had already made a post about how her day was going.
But there had been no mention of Sergei.
If anything, all the moments she had once posted with Sergei had been archived quietly. No one had questioned it before, but now the entire city held the same line of thought.
Something was going on.
Even if Yaroslav was not ready to hear it.
Perhaps because there was just no way that things like that would ever happen, right? It made absolutely no sense at the point that we’re in, especially given his father had been happier these days.
A Sergei who didn’t commit murder was a happy Sergei.
Yaroslav knew that.
But for an entire city to assume that it was because of his omega? That was just something else.
"Don’t you have patients to go and deal with?" Yaroslav said boredly, like that was all he could manage.
The truth was starting to gleam, and it was not a good one. Yet Yaro hoped that he would still get a chance to figure out the truths of all this.
Perhaps because at the end of the day, there wasn’t much to assume about Sergei Moskowsky, right?
"I could stay here and laugh at you, but that would make you even more miserable, especially since you know damn well it was your father who divorced you both," Milan laughed as she stepped out.
And Yaroslav...
He threw the nearest vase against the wall.
The divorce.
The one thing that had cemented his separation from Katya.
The one thing that should have brought him and Katya closer, yet for nearly a year, Katya had stayed dating the alpha senator.
The man who took him to romantic dates and loved him like Yaroslav once had.
The man who didn’t cheat on Katya.
But Yaroslav hoped Katya would understand.
That Katya would accept him if he told him the truth. Yet even that was something that Yaro had never gotten the chance to say to him.
He had never had the proper chance to make that confession to Katya. To tell him that he cheated, so they could have a baby without having to pressure Katya.
That she stayed because he wanted to make sure Katya was happy.
Well, that had backfired because three months ago, Milan started pointing out things that didn’t make sense about the divorce between Yaro and Katya.
It was all so random, but Yaro had dismissed it because he knew Milan hated Katya.
Besides the mention of that suspected divorce aide, who came only because Katya was at a formal function with Senator Aleksandr, and he looked so damn beautiful that Yaroslav wished out loud that it was him with Katya in that function.
It should have been jealousy that motivated Milan, especially since her accusations came out of nowhere. It was just so abrupt how she unknowingly confirmed what Yaro had been speculating about for months.
But now, the walls were starting to be glass, and there was only so much Yaroslav could play catch-up with.
"He is mine... And if I can’t have him... No one will," Yaroslav growled as he punched the concrete wall, his fists bleeding, yet he didn’t stop.
Not even when Ivan, his assistant, tried to stop him. He was not going to accept that Katya was choosing someone else.
The relationship with Alek shouldn’t have lasted that long.
It was what Yaroslav had intended, but every time he saw Katya genuinely happy with Alek, he convinced himself he could wait another month.
Yet it was as if they were now being played.
Yaro was fine with Katya being with Alek because they were peers and whatnot, and it would just be. A matter of time before Yaro took Katya back.
But his father?
The man who loved him unconditionally, gunning for his omega? That was insane.
Surely Sergei Moskowsky wasn’t interested in his son’s omega, right?
Maybe that was why Yaroslav cleaned up and went to the company with his father. It was barely half an hour to lunch.
And he would see if his father chose Katya over him.
If lunches with Katya were that important to his father, more than lunches with him.
It was supposed to be a simple decision-making thing when he got to the company.
But it all backfired on him when he was already in his father’s office talking to his father...
And the media started yapping about Senator Aleksandr being in a freak accident.
Strangely enough, the first suspect?
Was his father.
The city had already decided.
"Great. Do they know you haven’t had a proper relationship with anyone since Papa?" Yaroslav groaned in disbelief as he looked at his passive father.
"I’ll set them right, father. Please excuse me," the son was out of the door before Sergei could even say a word.
