Chapter 184: And If I Claim You, Will You Live?
[FROLO]
Katya looked at his friends, the bunch that he wasn’t even sure had been invited to the auction. He knew they must have come because they heard Sergei was coming to the auction.
It was more than obvious to anyone who had been to huge auctions like this that the most powerful people in the room stood at the podium to raise money. That was probably why they had come, right?
To support Katya’s charity auction, right?
To support the city, no?
But Katya knew them more than anyone in this auction hall, and he knew they were not spending two billion on the Devil of Frolo just because they needed a dinner date.
This was planned.
Ever since the contact re-read, his friend had never been the same.
They had made it their business to know about everything Sergei did and even who he walked with. Their findings had remained a secret even from Katya because they believed they would only come to Katya with concrete evidence.
Of what, Katya didn’t know.
But this had to be their hunting moment again.
That was why he wasn’t surprised.
His friends refused to let it all go, especially after the divorce. Things had just been suspicious, according to the two, and now, Katya wondered what evil they were planning for the unexpected prize they had won at the auction.
"Svetlana Vasilieva and Andre Stepanov!" Svet shouted from the back of the auction hall.
They looked ridiculous.
Andre looked like he wanted to be anywhere but here. He looked like he had been dragged to this place, and Katya could read him and Svet like a book.
Of course, he had been dragged here.
Of course, this was Svet’s idea.
"Alright! Mr. Moskowsky has been sold for dinner or a date with the couple at the back! Congratulations on your prize!" the MC cheered, and the hall that had gone insanely quiet erupted.
Svetlana Vasileva was a familiar face. She was the woman who bashed and defied Sergei so openly. And now she has won the auction of the same man.
Everyone who had seen her whims knew this wouldn’t end peacefully for the alpha, yet even then there wasn’t much they could do.
Sergei, on the other hand, didn’t care.
His eyes remained on his Solnyshka.
Granted, he knew about Katya’s psycho friends, but he would deal with that later. What mattered to him right now was that his Solnyshka had raised two billion in the name of Moskowsky.
And all Sergei could think of was that Vitya would be proud of Sergei and the omega.
It was an insane auction, and Sergei was just glad the madness wasn’t continuing. Because everyone was whispering about the devil of Frolo, who had been bought for two billion.
It made no sense.
But then the Vasilievas and the Stepanovs weren’t exactly poor. They could afford that; the only question was what was so important that they had outbid businessmen and women for that date.
"Your friends are unhinged, little rose," Alek said with a laugh as the hall slowed and resumed bidding at normal ranges.
The bids were relatively lower than two billion, with the highest being capped at a hundred million. Still, it was for charity. But Katya couldn’t help but steal glances at Svet and Andre, who were bickering in the back like an old married couple.
"Welcome to the family," was all Katya said as he rolled his eyes at his friend and their antics.
The auction lasted seven hours.
Seven hours of Sergei sitting there and watching people fiddle with figures. Seven hours of the most excruciating bits of his life, especially since he was seated a little behind Alek and Katya.
It was a tough watch, seeing as Alek brushed a strand of hair from Katya’s face and how Katya leaned into him naturally.
The omega trusted the senator and knew it wasn’t that bad. So why the fuck was his heart aching? And worse, why the fuck was he haunted every moment he saw their faces lean closer?
Oh, this was tough.
"I need to get some air," Sergei sighed eventually when he couldn’t take it anymore.
The auction had ended, but he still had to sit through whatever the fuck was left and the stupid-ass speeches because Svetlana had bought him, and he couldn’t leave without going on that date.
Oh, but Sergei was pissed.
However, before he could get up, he heard his name.
"And now to the co-organizer of the day. We are informed that Moskowsky group will be forgiven a speech," the MC said.
Sergei wanted to die.
Honestly, it was way easier to slash all these heads off necks except Katya’s, of course, than to go up there and give a fucking speech. What was he supposed to say? That these people needed to be glad he hadn’t killed them for boring him out?
Oh, he was angry, but what the fuck, yeah?
Still, he remained in his seat, like he definitely didn’t want to step up there and thank people for shit they had been doing occasionally.
Who even complained about helping people to the point that they needed an actual event filled with powerful people just to show off?
Sergei did not like this one bit.
A few seats behind Sergei, Volkov watched his boss, and then he watched Katya Romanov and the senator. He could tell that he was in a really terrible mood. That was the only explanation of why Sergei was sitting.
When Moskovsky had been mentioned normally in regular events, he always went up there, gave a three-sentence speech, and walked out like he had better things to do. But today he was actually seated.
"Oh, there is a correction here. The person who will be giving a speech for the Moskowsky group isn’t Mr. Moskowsky, but the group chairman, Katya Romanov," the MC said.
Sergei breathed in relief for a whole half second before he realized what the man had said.
Was his omega giving a speech?
"Let’s go now while they are distracted," Irina sighed.
Sergei stared at her blankly. Then he turned his attention to the beautiful omega who was headed to the podium.
Gods, Katya looked so fucking beautiful. He looked insanely pretty, and it was breaking Sergei’s heart that he couldn’t rush up there and tell the world how beautiful Katya was.
"Sergei—" Irina tried, and Sergei ignored her.
"Focus. This is about the Moskowsky group," was all he said before he turned all his attention on Katya.
Volkov let out a quiet snicker behind them like he had witnessed the entire situation go from World War three to no world war at all. Like peace was suddenly a priority for the devil of Frolo.
Maybe it was, right?
"You’re impossible," Irina sighed exaggeratedly as she sat in her seat, playing games on her phone while Sergei just looked ahead at what was his.
"Greetings, everyone," Katya began.
Volkov could swear he saw his boss’s head tilted to the side, like he was staring at the prettiest thing in the universe.
Maybe he was.
"Oh, we are all doomed," Volkov mumbled to no one in particular, especially with the way Sergei smiled all through Katya’s speech.
"... lastly, this was made possible by Mr. Vladimir Moskowsky," Katya said, and Sergei sat up fast, almost breaking his neck.
Katya had called him Vladimir.
Not Sergei Vladimirovich Moskowsky.
Just Vladimir.
In public.
While looking right into his eyes.
All the words after that disappeared because Sergei’s focus was suddenly on the omega’s lips.
Not what he said.
Was this heaven?
