[FROLO]

No one ever really knew where Sergei was except for Yaroslav. Even then, the beta didn’t know where his father was, at least a good number of times.

Maybe Anya.

But would Katya go and demand a location from the craziest woman he’d ever interacted with in Frolo other than Svet?

What wound did he say then?

That Sergei had killed the journalist and delivered the head?

Why, though?

It didn’t help that Katya’s memories drifted to Yaros saying Sergei only marked his ’S’ on people he hated with everything.

And when he wanted to make sure everyone knew it was his doing.

Would that change anything?

Would it make Katya breathe easy now that shit was certainly about to hit the fan?

Would it make it all bearable for him?

But maybe Katya was wrong.

He had to be.

Maybe that was why he took a shower. And changed into the senator’s clothes, and left for work.

Someone had to have answers for him.

He needed to have answers for why that was.

He knew he had told his alpha that he would stay and wait.

But in a world of Moskowskys and their head business, Katya needed to be sure that this was Sergei’s doing.

It was like a compulsion that he couldn’t explain.

Perhaps because deep down, Katya still believed that the trolls had only stopped coming after him because of Sergei.

They had been so erased in the kin dog way that only a Moskowsky would have done that.

Yaroslav was too much of a pussy to make it happen, and that only left one person.

Sergei Moskowsky.

The man who was out of the city... right?

"He has to be somewhere in this damn building," Katya said as his subconscious mocked him again.

’The penthouse, perhaps. Will you walk in on him and Irina? Then say what? Oh, excuse me, Vladimir, did you maybe kill that poor journalist for me?... Way to be a pick-me.’

Katya needed to stop thinking.

Because the more he found himself thinking the more it felt like his subconscious was haunting him. And he needed that shit quiet instead of adding to his misfortune.

It made no sense anyway because why the fuck would Sergei do that for him?

’But then Sergei paid your debts, and saved your family business, gave you freedom from it all, without asking for anything.’

What did Katya believe this time?

His subconscious? That ruthless little shit?

He would just confirm for himself.

When he got to the company, Katya wasn’t surprised to find everyone going about as if it were a usual workday.

Of course it was.

This was Moskowsky holdings.

Someone was always working.

Katya didn’t bother with the greetings or even smiling at anyone right now. He didn’t care that he had the scent of the senator all around him, and people knew he had just come for his heat leave.

They would stare at him anyway.

It wasn’t surprising. After all, he was the first Omega chairman of this hellhole.

The private elevator dinged on the executive floor minutes later, and what Katya saw had him wondering if he had missed thirty seasons of what happened in the Moskowsky building.

The offices were in different places.

Like, completely restructured.

If Katya didn’t know any better, he could have said that the Moskowsky devil used magic to move the offices to a better compartment system.

But there was no active magic in Frolo, and the devil of Frolo certainly didn’t have that shit or even a warlock who could pull this much.

"What happened here?" Katya wondered when he realized that his office was the only one left standing where it had once been.

The c-suite offices were all scrapped. Like they had never been there, and it was weird because Katya knew he didn’t approve of any of that shit.

But at the same time, only Sergei could approve all that without needing him.

"Rahim..." Katya spoke when he saw his secretary at the door.

"Sir... Welcome back, chairman," Rahim greeted respectfully, a smile on her face, but Katya didn’t care much for that.

"What happened here? Where are the other C-suite offices?" Katya asked, trying so hard to ignore the blended scents and especially a particular rainforest.

Katy had come here to be civil.

But what was civility when his mind kept drifting back to the stupid dream from days ago?

"They’re on level sixty-nine, sir. The only offices up here are yours, Miss Anya’s, and Mr. Moskowsky’s," Rahim said carefully and respectfully.

And Katya’s ears perked when he heard the devil’s name.

"Where is he?" Katy asked like he had suddenly remembered why the fuck he had come this far. He should have been waiting for his alpha back home.

But no.

Here he was because someone decided to get fucking crafty with a journalist’s head and probably would deny it to the very end.

"Who?" Rahim asked, like she couldn’t smell the rage coming off of Katya.

And having worked in this office for a long time and being assigned to Katya, there was only one person that everyone on this floor knew Katya hated and was so close to a fist fight with.

Meanwhile, the rainforest scent invaded Katya’s nose in the most addictive of ways. Katya was feeling deluded. But he needed to focus. He has an alpha now.

Even so, his memories were still a haunting reminder of what his subconscious had decided to craft for him; that traitorous little shit in his head.

’Well, excuse you, again. I state facts, sir. Just because you can’t accept them doesn’t mean everyone doesn’t have eyes.’

Oh, Katya’s subconscious was determined to turn him into roadkill at this point.

Yet even then, Katya was determined to focus.

How could he, though, when Katya remembered the forehead kiss?

The stupid deep voice.

The stupid dream.

The stupid breakfast.

The stupid lilies.

The stupid water bottle.

The stupid journalist’s head.

"Don’t play with me, Rahim. Where the fuck is he?" Katya asked angrily, right as the door to Sergei’s new office opened.

"Easy, Solnyshka... I took it to you, and your boyfriend revived my gift?"

"You. Obnoxious. Overbearing. Insane. Bastard," Katya growled lowly, but Sergei just smiled at him.

"Yup, you definitely loved it... Wanna come in, Solnyshka? You have such a beautiful mouth today," Sergei teased.

And of course...

Katya just had to lose his focus at that time.

Instead, his mind went to the memory of Sergei’s thumb on his lips. Pressing so softly, so delicately as he breathed close to Katya.

Katya remembered the near kiss and how Sergei had kissed his forehead instead.

How Sergei’s rainforest scent calmed him even now, when he had come here to give the alpha a piece of mind.

Katya was melting for the man he had come to talk to.

And he didn’t even know what to do to get out of it.

’If you trip and fall, he’ll definitely hold you... You might even get a kis—’

"STOOOPPPP!!!" Katya shouted suddenly.

"Solnyshka, you okay?" Sergei asked worriedly. Closing the distance between them in seconds.

And Katya...

"Ugh, someone kill me now."

The room was spinning suddenly and Katya regretted rushing toward Sergei that fast.

Everything that was happening, topped with his traitorous subconscious, not to mention Sergei fucking Moskowsky’s entire existence, all in one morning, apparently exceeded the limits of just what he could survive in one sitting.

So when the darkness crept in, Katya didn’t bother fighting it.

Even if the last thing he heard was Sergei swearing.

Before everything went black.
